  • its kind of a kid rap ....

  • @brandon112299 I'd have to disagree man, I really dig the theme behind this one. It's not riddled with a lot of obscure idioms and metaphors, but the end really ties it up nicely.

  • <.< i gues its not that bad...

  • Two minutes in I said, "Better add this to my favourites now, before I forget."

  • How does this only have a sprinkling of views?! This song needs to be heard

  • "Look, I never had a dream in my life

because a dream is what you want to do but still haven't pursue

I knew what I wanted and did it 'till it was done

so I followed the dream and did it since day one"

Holy. Shit. I never hear of Aesop Rock before, but that line just sold me. I'm in love!

  • @WarPenguinGuy "Look, I've never had a dream in my life

Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven't pursued

I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done

So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!" *

  • an add about oxygen...while im ripped :D

    btw this song is amazing!

  • Song is legit nough said

  • this song kinda change my life~

  • was in to metal, heavy metal, rock, all that (still listen to it)... Started listening to Aesop Rock two days ago... Couldn't understand a word. But I liked it ( its been awhile since I heard good hip/hop rap Idk I like it) My point I can understand every word of most songs already... Helping me concentrate on my college project and everything its liike a drug on top of the weed. now the song stopped and I feel like procrastinating.

  • I love this song! :)

  • @FoergChannel Thanks bro! And yeah Labor days and None shall pass are the best.

  • Cool.

  • What album is this from?

  • Song is real as fuck. Fresh beat and lyrics are more like a story than anything.

  • Comment removed

  • I know the person who wrote that song! I love this song

  • "I'm not giving in I'm finished." and walked away...

  • Not being racist, but I thought Aesop was black but until i heard how smart the lyrics were and the lack of the "fuck you nigger, gunna smack ya with mah glock" im like this guys white.

  • @Mattc23q lol that's kinda racist but true

  • @Mattc23q

    Ditto.

  • @Mattc23q

just because you say " i'm not trying to be racist" doesnt mean that free's you up from saying something racist, because that was pretty stereotypical.

and b4 you come with the comeback, i am white.

  • fantastica!!

  • wow...just wow

  • i love love love the violin in this song

  • @WarStorm93 If you like that listen to "Dinner with blockhead" by aesop rock, it's not actually a song it's an intermission in a CD but it's awesome

  • I work at a nursing home and this song makes me wonder what the lives of the old folks where I work were like.

  • Kind of sounds like an alternative pharaoh march

  • This song. Everything is so fucking amazing about it.

  • This is real rap. Rap should start sounding more like this and less like the crap that's all over TV, internet and radio these days.

  • @emptycookiejar1 ipods man. ipods. fuck the TV, fuck the radio. and most of all fuck mainstream

  • This is the definition of hiphop mc

  • Wow...

  • Wow...

  • i loved when she was on her death bed, such... poetry.

  • this got me through high school and gave me that extra boost of confidence..

  • The only thing that has me at a loss is the beginning of the chorus; "1 2 3, That's the speed of the seed. A B C, that's the speed of the need." I can't quite figure out what he's implying. I'm thinking that the "Seed" is the representation of imagination, or along the lines of that. But, shit, It's got me wondering.

  • @AlexIsInnocent Weird. That part is the easiest for me. "The speed of the seed" refers to how quickly the ideas spread. "The speed of the need" explains that it spreads at the speed which is necessary.

  • "must not sleep... must warn others" made me think, "Can't sleep, clown will eat me..."

  • Anybody else catch the "Last of the Mohicans" violin?

  • @milk4you2 yeah maaan!

  • I bet if you asked Ali what he thought about Lil' Wayne he wouldn't say any of the cliched, negative bullshit that so many wannabe hip-hop heads regurgitate at every single opportunity they get. I've found people who constantly diss lil' wayne do so in the absence of having anything relevant to say about hip-hop at all.

  • sounds like the violin is from an andre nickatina song

  • Take a breath Aesop, dang

  • Surprised I never heard this. Stumbled on it looking for a track he did on the last Weathermen album. Good shit.

  • What a genius.

  • love the album title

  • its a song not only about lucy but also its a message for us to live our lives to the full!!!

  • Too cool. Great song.

  • @Kbaugues im sure aesop dont care much about what you think cause while your running your rumors in the streets.. he creates another masterpeice

  • @74DOOMSDAY

    Fuck yeah! hahaha

  • @74DOOMSDAY niceeee flip on 'em

  • @konradhk00 preciated

  • @74DOOMSDAY One of my favourite posts evere brother , I don't think even half the kid that listen know what he's actually speaking upon , of course their is a double meaning in the track but the one your referring to os the one most slept on , again great shieeeeeet , peace brother!

  • @Kbaugues Go back under your bridge.

  • Any of us could be "Lucy". What will *you* leave behind that really *matters*?

  • I'm a big fan of Aesop's songs that are like this. Story telling and easy to understand, with optional dissection and contemplation. Most of his songs require you to think about them to enjoy them, but the ones like this with explicit messages are really neat.

  • And she drew! that part is so amazing for some reason

  • if she only met rock lobster...

  • Reminds me of Slick Rick.

  • This song makes me think why da vinci was so good at art:D he practised, and he had no time to give a fuck about life:D

  • it's like a story, absolutely amazing and inspiring. aesop you're genuis.

  • must not sleep- must warn others. where do i know that from. sounds familiar

  • @bartjuhh12 trust blocks creep where the dust storm hovers

  • @alexmiddleton4 They're also quotes from the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

  • @alexmiddleton4 I try to walk on sunshine but its rediculous at times

  • @alexmiddleton4 I'll tourniquet your turbulence then trample on your shutters

  • @alexmiddleton4 It's from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, old movie.

  • @bartjuhh12 It's from some movie, check it on wiki.

  • @DivineCipherX

ye i got it, though it was also used in Lost

  • @bartjuhh12 body snatchers quote suckaa

  • @AtodaO Well i found it already. it was also mentioned in Lost, i know it from there

  • @bartjuhh12 It's from the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Those phrases are tattooed on Aesop

  • @nitrii Ye thanks, but I knew them of Lost.

  • @bartjuhh12

Must not sleep - Must warn other is a saying from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Aesop Rock has it tattooed on his arms .

  • @bartjuhh12 aes lived by this mato he had a tatoo that said that and he's used it in multiple songs

  • @bartjuhh12 its from body snatchers

  • @bartjuhh12 Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

  • @bartjuhh12 I'll tourniquet your turbulence then trample on your stutters.

  • @bartjuhh12 Invasion of the body snatchers

  • @bartjuhh12

He got it from the original "invasion of the body snatchers" from the 1950s.

    SICK MOVIE

  • @bartjuhh12 Body snatchers

  • @bartjuhh12 Commencement at the Obedience Academy, or the 1956 movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Aes uses this quote in a few songs and has it tattooed on his forearms.

  • @bartjuhh12 invasion of the body snatchers

  • @bartjuhh12 Its from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Each one of those phrases is tattooed on one of Aesop's Forearms.

  • @bartjuhh12 He has these two phrases tattoo'd to each of his forearms too.

  • @bartjuhh12 invasion of the body snatchers.

  • its about doing what u love....despite what everyone else thinks

  • "Look, I've never had a dream in my life

Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven't pursued

I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done

So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!" -Lucy's last words

  • @BIGRAMFAN13 That line gives me chill everytime

  • Lucy = Lisbeth Salander. This song was so ahead of its time.

  • @reezellthia as in 'Millennium Trilogy'? please explain.

  • @Mullets923 Yea, everyone thinks she stupid but really she quite talented :)

  • Lights.. in the sky... coming... just love

  • 5 PEOPLE NEVER MET A lUCY, DAMN SHAME lUCY WAS FUCKIN STRAIGHT UP REAL.123 MAYB E SOME DAY THEY WILL UNDERSTAND! r.i.p lUCY

  • If you can't figure it out I suggest taking remedial literature classes....

  • milkshakes yummy:D

  • Lucy, like Lucy Ford ?

  • so uhhh lucy...is metaphorical...

think of it as meth. haha

  • and i will remember your name and face, on the day you are judged by the funhouse cast, and i will rejoice in your fall from gracewith a cane through the sky like "none shall pass".....

  • this makes me want to paint a picture

  • @ItsDamionHamilton Aesop never had a ex cause he was married and he loves hip-Hop all of those things are for slug metaphors

  • @ItsDamionHamilton bruh you're wrong, Aesop doesnt use the term (Lucy) as a reference to the devil Slug did. This song is a story about a girl who lived with no regrets (Hints the title) Lucy did what she loved to do and died happily Slug had that type of idea of what the devil consist of. Now Aesop featured on a song with slug about his version of lucy. Because they work together (atmosphere) sorry for busting your balls just had to share that light of information with you

  • dats da most beautiful story ever

    i love aesop rock

  • This is amazing.

  • how bout i have this tattooed on my back

  • And she said:

"Look, I've never had a dream in my life

Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven't pursued

I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done

So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!"

  • Is he saying Lucy like Lucy Ford from Atmosphere

  • This is just an idea but maybe aesop is rapping about someone he knew maybe he was joshua.

  • it doesn't matter what anything is about.........

  • I don't know what to think anymore-

Aesop makes me respect Lucy, Slug makes me hate her.

  • This is in the book "Hip-Hop Speaks To Children"

  • "Look, I've never had a dream in my life

Because a dream is what you wanna do, but still haven't pursued

I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done

So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!"

  • @Zeppelinemg your retarted, logically that means you have had a dream at some time in yo life

  • @farrishussain

    *you're

    *retarded

and i quoted that straight from the song brosef, and if what he said was true, then "Lucy" never had a dream because she always lived it.

  • Can someone tell me what this song is about?

  • @MusubiMan Its just a song about a girl called Lucy that loved to paint.

  • @alexmiddleton4

there's metaphors in the song relating to aesops life i reckon.

  • @vulgarmastermind nope, its hip hop

  • @alexmiddleton4 lol, kinda hard to miss, i thought

  • @alexmiddleton4 good boy

  • @MusubiMan The song is about following your dreams despite what others might think

  • @MusubiMan That's entirely up to you.

  • @MusubiMan its about Lucy ford which one of his friends used in his song to be a metaphor for his on off feelings for his ex, but its also a metaphor for hip hop as a whole, which can be hell some times all about a love hate thing lucy ford( Lucifer) are other things slug wants it to mean, think of lucy as "hip hop" then the song takes on a new meaning

  • @ItsDamionHamilton our other things*

  • @ItsDamionHamilton

Cool brah, cool. But this is Aesop Rock. Slug is in Atmosphere...

  • @MusubiMan --

You can dream a little dream, or you can live a little dream. Do it until it's done.

  • @MusubiMan

It's about a girl named Lucy. She was 7 but then she died the end.

    Not that complex.

  • @MusubiMan It's about following your dreams.

  • Comment removed

  • @MusubiMan Its about individuality and how you dont need to follow the flock of sheep and still live your live happy until you die

  • @MusubiMan The song is how she lived her life with no regrets and no dreams because everything she wanted to do she did in her life because she believed that you dont need big dreams to be happy, and all through her life people saw her as a low life or a weirdo because she didnt do anything but paint and thats all she wanted to do.

  • @MusubiMan Don't criticize those who want to live a little dream.

  • @MusubiMan it's about living your life and not giving into other peoples BS.

  • @MusubiMan well its for a language arts class BIG GRADES so i had to read it its OK but i dont get my teacher

  • @MusubiMan its about lucy

  • @MusubiMan Objectivist Lucy.

  • @MusubiMan "you can dream a little dream or you can live a little dream. I'd rather live it, cause dreamers always chase but never get it."

  • @MusubiMan

its about living your life happily and not letting anyone get in your way.

  • @MusubiMan seriously? i kinda thought this was a very clearly articulated ballad. do u mean by bigger concepts or by the actual story portrayed?

  • @MusubiMan seriously? i kinda thought this was a very clearly articulated ballad. do u mean by bigger concepts or by the actual story portrayed?

  • @MusubiMan im 100% sure the whole thing is a metaphor but id need the lyrics to figure it out

  • @cobarhh

the entire album Labor Days is about work, labor, effort in the most general sense, often talking about how the daily grind inhibits artistic fulfilment.

"you could dream a little dream or you could live a little dream, i'd rather live it, cause dreamers always chase but never get it."

I think Aesop Rock creates lucy as a type of ideal he aspires to. someone who lives thier dream of creating art and doesnt let what others say, think or expect bother her.

  • @MusubiMan

It's about being obsessed with what you want to do and never let anyone's opinion stray from your chosen path.

It's about working hard to reach your goals and not just thinking or dreaming about it.

At least for me this is what this song means.

  • @MusubiMan It's about following through on what you wanna do instead of dreaming about it!

  • @MusubiMan it's about pursuing your dreams. If you want to do something, do it, don't just imagine doing it.

  • such a sick rap

  • One of my favorites by Aesop.

  • stop laughing

  • you can dream a little dream or you can live a little dream. i'd rather live it, cuz dreamers always chase but never get it.

  • Lucy was 7 and wore a head of blue barettes

City born, into this world with no knowledge and no regrets

Had a piece of yellow chalk with which she'd draw upon the street

The many faces of the various locals that she would meet

    There was joshua, age 10

    Bully of the block.

She got in one little fight and her mom got scared and said your living with aunty and uncle in Bel-Aire

  • Cool story bro.
