Again, Tiamat is more than a mere 'sea god', she was a primordial embodiment of chaos and was birthgiver to all, in this sense directly parellel to Gaia. Her being is strictly divided chronologically into two roles - that of a gentle mother of the former years, and of a slain enraged dragon of the latter years.

Gaia is more than a titan but a Pantheon. She gave birth to all gods and titans alike. Also titans are also gods in the sense that they are immortal - they can't truly be eradicated from earth, only sealed in the underworld. The only god that truly died was Pan. Tiamat, like Gaia, represents the body of earth, only very much dead in the Sumerian myth while Gaia is alive and ensouled. If anything Tiamat is more like Pan in the sense that she died along with the primitive age aka Golden age.
