  • What is it with mantras that makes them affect a human being, without even understanding that laguage? I can understand it with sound meditations etc. Like this one based on specific frequencies of the golden ratio(phi): /watch?v=S0_y1BCWpOo ... But with mantras I am curious.

  • @knaggelpuff Mantras are a sound meditation themselves. They are of a specific vibration that raises consciousness. The breath is the animating principle.

  • Deva and Miten your music opens my heart and makes me feel happy to be here, in peace love & light

  • Love :)

  • What a beautiful song sung by a lovely woman of obvious spiritual strength and sensitivity. It is no matter should the form be less than correct in the eyes of some. Deval Premal's annuciation of sanskrit may seem weak to those who fail to appreciate the amazing power of this mantra and the voice that delivers it. Is tradition so important that it stops up our ears or blinds our eyes to the beauty by which God has graced us?

  • This is not the correct way to sing this Mantra. There is lot of philosophy in those ancient Indian chanting Mantra... although this sounds awsome to many of you....this realy kills the primary principles of this mantra... realy sad..

  • @pubudu666 Don't be sad, be happy xD

  • @pubudu666

You are right; the vibrations aren't there as when the pandits are singing it.

This clip is not a mantra, it's an artistic expression based on the mantra.

  • Wow! A blessed Voice.

  • "Eu Saúdo aquele Ser, possuidor do esplendor divino e

  • @lilianaiva01 Om, we transcend the physical, astral and mental worlds; we meditate on that glorious SUN; the Divine Light we contemplate; may that Light transform our consciousness.

Om, que trascienden el mundo físico, astral y mental, meditamos en ese sol glorioso, la luz divina que contemplamos, puede que la luz transformar nuestra conciencia. (my spanish is not so good, I used translate.google, hope it sounds ok to you)

  • The first I heard of the Gayatri Mantra came from an acclaimed TV series and it's used as a main theme. If you like to listen how it's used, search for the following keywords: BSG main theme, Apocalypse (theme from The Plan)

Even this version of the mantra sounded like the Lords of Kobol (search for it)!

  • Aum = Brahma ; bhoor = embodiment of vital spiritual energy(pran) ; bhuwah = destroyer of sufferings ; swaha = embodiment of happiness ; tat = that ; savitur = bright like sun ; varenyam = best choicest ; bhargo = destroyer of sins ; devasya = divine ; dheemahi = may imbibe ; pertains to meditation dhiyo = intellect ; yo = who ; naha = our ; prachodayat = may inspire! "dhiyo yo na prachodayat" is a prayer to Lord Krishna(God)...it is one of the oldest known & most powerful Mantras created.
  • the artists is known as Deva Premal. & Gayatri is far from impotent. It has deep spiritual meaning. Just because she has given it a modern sound to attract people to listen to the flow of the sounds,...is no reason to discredit her intention or her talents.

  • who sings this? god bless her

  • love it

  • I love mantra-music!!!

    greetings from bavaria ;-)

  • Aum Bhur Bhuvah Swah, Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi, Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat

  • I love this mantra, thanks :D

  • Beautiful.

  • Well done Alex !! God Bless You Om Shanti

  • Despite the, ah, discussion over pronunciation, the chant here is beautiful and inspiring. How the words are spoken does not matter.

It is what is in the heart that makes the sound resonate.

  • @cherdarling1

    Well said - Thumbs up

  • @cherdarling1 The pronunciation matters. The first principle of uttering a mantra is the clarity of the pronunciation. A wrong pronunciation can change the meaning of the whole mantra. I appreciate the vdo and mantra but just want to clarify that phonetic clarity is a requirement while uttering a mantra.

  • @anuragvdo reminds me of the story about the Brahmin who found a cowherd praying all wrong. He told the cowherd he was doing it wrong and taught him the correct prayers and went on his way. In time the Lord appeared and reprimanded him saying, "that cowherd had prayed with all his heart, now he does not pray at all for fear of doing it "wrong"; you have deprived me of a pure prayer!"

  • @KetsuekiRose Where is this story from? I would like to know the reference. All, I am saying that Mantras are based on pronunciation. Sanskrit is a complex language & changing 1 "matra" can change the meaning of a word. Change 1 word can change the meaning of the mantra. & mantras are very powerful. There is a reason why people are told not to utter Mahakaal mantra if they don't know the meaning of it. Prayer can be formal and non-formal but mantras are always formal.

  • Om bhoor-bhuvah svah,

    tat-savitur-varennyam,

    bhargo devasya dheemahi,

    dhiyo yo nah pracho-dayaat.

  • O God, You are the giver of life, the remover of pain & sorrow, the bestower of happiness; O Creator of the Universe, may we receive Your supreme sin-destroying light; may You guide our intellect in the right direction.'

  • @UbberNews24 thank you for sharing the words. grateful to sing this and the peaceful feeling it brings.

  • @KetsuekiRose This is so meaningful!

  • @anuragvdo @cherdarling1 yes... but its beautiful! so calming and the tune is simply amazing. and what is in the heart really has resonated outside <3

  • @phebesalvatore Absolutely. I agree.

  • @cherdarling1 Iḿ agree.

  • @cherdarling1 Supposely, the Sanskrit words are at such frequencys that they respond to the different chakras.

  • Get mp3 mantras

  • Get all mp3 music from Deva Premal

  • i love this version. regarding proper pronunciation of mantras, one should consider that in india there are many different pronunciations of words, from ong to om , siva to shiva, krishna to krsna ; who is to say who is correct? buddha, the y great rebel, explained that there are 84000 ways to reach enlightenment - essentially saying that any method - even any mantra, pronounced 'proper' or not, can become a gateway to nirvana. zen took this further and said, any word, even 'poop' is = to AUM !

  • @zogacara you are trying very hard with your apologist approach. But the regional variations, of which you give mediocre examples, are relatively minor, compared to completely missing the aspirations and meter that make the Gayatri so sonically powerful. Bhava or attitude is certainly paramount over pronunciation--but why throw out the sonic power for a merely pretty sound?

  • @apsara81cloud - 'apologist approach' is a little condescending my friend, assuming i am apologizing in any way is incorrect, for myself or others. i would wager that there are hundreds of guru-parampara lineages if not thousands that all claim to have the 'true' pronunciation and meter, and their variations are probably as diverse as this one. therefore comparison to an absolute correct form which this or others deviate from is irrelevant. you said it best, bhava / devotion is the key, aum.

  • @zogacara now you are revealing not only basic linguistic ignorance, but also lack understanding of philosophical distinctions as well. Study what an "apologist" is and you it has little to do with "saying you're sorry." Oh lord. You have not studied Sanskrit or the languages of India. Talking about "paramparas" is silly. Ignoring, aspiration and meter that is generally shared by all Vedic languages is silly. You will miss out on hitting certain subtle centers by ignoring them.

  • @apsara81cloud - don't be arrogant, i have studied sanskrit. i respect the opinion of the vedic teachers but i do not agree with them. bhava and tapasya are more important then technical details in the realm of maya.

  • @zogacara I already asserted, that bhava is paramount. Your statements are arrogantly ignorant that the mantric form also holds the essence of Vedic revelation—birthed from the profound tapasya of the sages. Your words exemplify just enough knowledge to throw out blithe New Agisms. There are regional variances, but, we Hindus recognize and are still moved by them. Liking this singer's bhava is fine; but don't presume to condescendingly dismiss the sacredness and power of the timeless form

  • @apsara81cloud lol, whatever!

  • @zogacara You are bang on with your praise for the presence of true bhava/good intentions alongwith meditating on the mantras! I am a Hindu too... and understand all that is being discussed. Do not feel discouraged in any way.. however little... you are feeling and doing perfectly. Find the good and praise it. Blessings and love :)

  • @zogacara Well, if you have a wrong code or a wrong key to some door, bhava and tapasya will not help you much :) Mantras are certain "vibrational codes" to open certain type of energies or to tune to certain levels of consciousness ... There not some "artistic" creations.

  • Absolutely Beautiful! The best mix on this mantra yet. Thanks...it's been flowing in my home for days now.

    Namaste

  • Pretty sure this is the one that Sonia Choquette uses in her training conferences. Thanks.

  • would you be kind enough to reccomend one version which you find acceptable?

    also are you indian?

    thankyou in advance

  • This song accompanied some of the most beautiful moments in my life. So glad to hear (and see) it again. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Would like to present your clip on my playlists so that my friends, mostly in Germany and France, can enjoy this, too.

  • Mantras are something quite different from pop songs. Presenting them like this is missing the point ...

  • @violinoamore The pronunciations should be pronounced right to get the effect of the mantra. Hare Kṛṣṇa!

  • @LifeSanctification Exactly ... singing like this (and similar "popular mantras") is like singing in English and not knowing the language and thinking that somebody will understand ... Will not ... The funny point is that when singing or talking in another language, everybody cares at least a bit to learn the proper diction etc. With mantras, most people think it does not matter and any oversweet mish-mash like this will work. It is like dialing a wrong telephone number, right person not reply

  • @violinoamore Yes, although I must admit, it sounds very beautiful to the ears, but have no potency. It is said that the Gayatri Mantra aligns precisely balanced energies, unobstructed and distinct, to generate currents, which act like lasers. Intoning a true pitch, word and meter (Sanskrit) translates sound waves, one retrogressing into another. More info here: shantimayi . com/gayatri_sm.html

  • @LifeSanctification Sure, this song sounds nice, nice voice, melody etc. ... there is no question about that. But the point is , it has very little to do with the mantra ... almost nothing ... but it pretends it IS the mantra. And the people think they listen to the mantra ... So this is a kind of deceipt/illusion/fun/ignorance. unfortunately ...

  • @violinoamore Yes. Do you know a video or a website that pronounces this mantra in a correct way? I found one that sounds traditional. search Sanskrit Chant - Gayatri Mantra. It should be on related videos next to this one.

  • @violinoamore but now the vibration can reach many people that it wouldn't have otherwise....and you never know who it might resonate with... :D

  • @asiegele517 Well, if you put say Gregorian choral into dixieland arrangement - would you say the same ? :)

  • @violinoamore but the vibration will reach many people that it wouldn't have otherwise....and you never know who it might resonate with.... :D

  • @violinoamore what makes you think is a pop song?

The point is certainly not missed here.. it is her way of believing in the point! Why should everyone do things in just one particular way?

  • @goldenrose19 It has all the characteristics of a pop song and none of mantra (it is just few years old, while the way of chanting and using mantras is thousands years old. And regarding "just one particular way", surely you have a telephone number to some of your friends ? Try to change some numbers in it (for not to calling him just in one particular way) - do you think you will reach him ? I doubt :) Similarly with mantras :)

  • @violinoamore Clearly you dn't knw, even in mantras there are variations in pronouncing the words! The words per se generally dn't change & nor does the meaning, but the pronounciation does & can change! as is seen in the same mantras originally in sanskrit being used in buddhism and hinduism. There r so many vibrations yet all vibrations are one. You have just given a very poor analogy relating telephone numbers with vibrations/mantras.

  • @goldenrose19 You see, there should be always some balance of form and content Similarly like Gregorian choral will not be much deep if played by dixieland or country&western band, Gayatri is rather impotent when put in such an interpretation, however "sweet" it may seem. In reality, it is quite shallow pop instrumentation with dead electronic loops, artificially tuned vocals and the pronounciation is quite bad. If somebody talks to you in English like that, you would not understand much ...

  • @violinoamore It is extremely fortunate tht thr r such great beings singing, believing, sharing and living the truths..such as the gayatri mantra, other mantras and sutras... and putting something of true beauty out there in this world.. rather than holding back just because some people might find their work 'pop'. There are more beautiful things to discuss than 'judging' works of beauty and truth and finding innane and useless issues in them!!!

  • Спасибо

  • Dear yogeshvarkarthik,

Also I believe that it´s not dogma versus (against) Consciousness but dogma verso (towards) Consciousness...

  • This is wonderful :-)

  • nice vocal!!!!!!!

  • yes, deva premal is a wonderful singer. but the error has it's own effect on minds according to the law of nature.not respecting the scripture from which you derive the mantra is as good as not having faith in the mantra.sin means just inappropriate action that has negative consequence. relax the ego and pls try to see the point. chant in right way and see the difference yourself. om.

  • singing vedic mantras and chanting in wrong intonation amounts to killing the diety itself and considered as a heinous sin according to mantra sastra. deva premal has good intentions. may she also resort to good methods of spreading spiritual wisdom. om.

  • Beautiful, thank you!!!!

  • The meaning of gaytri mantra is very profound and if with understanding one meditates the concentration of mind increases manifold and becomes the key to all success

  • Heard on Battlestar Galactica - and in many yoga classes - this is my favorite version on the Gayatri Mantra.

  • This is a song for all without to brand to whom or from which it was originated. It is for everyone regardless who it may be.

  • Gayatri mantra is the most powerful chant among all the gods and godessess.from sanathana dharma most of them are worshipping this mantra to get mentle peace and happy in their external as well as in their inner lives. so my sincere request is dont break the mantra and dont expand the mantra between the words.

  • walking with God surely makes the journey wonderful :)

  • El mantra-upasana (mantra de adoración) común, universal y más elevado que la tradición del Veda presenta en las escrituras reveladas. El Gayatri Mantran se encuentra recogido en el Rij Veda.

  • where can I get this CD? I want to play it on my computer for meditation. It is so very joyfully peaceful and it feels my heart with Love.
