@wahoohiker We see them a lot but they are impressive every time. Nice vid. I noticed you said, "Still keeping my eyes peeled for a Ivory Billed!"
My Uncle who also lives in Florida not far from us, claims he saw an Ivory bill. Well take it with a grain of salt considering his fishing stories he might not be all that reliable! hahaha. But he says he did anyway.
I saw a real fast strange extra large pileated once I thought maybe ..but I am even not convinced of what it was really.
I hear a lot of that around my place. I'm not 100%, but I've narrowed it to catbirds, northern mockingbirds, or northern cardinals. I mean, you wouldn't expect a cardinal to say something like that, but there is a sound they do a lot like that. Hope that helps!
1) It has to do with their tongues (wrapped around their skulls) insulating their bird-brains from the shock. I'd google it if I were you for a little more information.
2) I believe it was an old Roman form of headwear.
@stevenscottoddballz The Ivory Billed Woodepeckers Have A Strong Skull b/c it Takes A Lot Of Force For An Ivory Billed Woodpecker To Pound Into A Tree So They Do Not Get Headaches. And Their Beak Keeps On Growing Since It Gets Worn Down From Pecking Into A Tree. A ''Pileated'' Woodpecker Means That It Has Mainly Black Plumage(feathers) And A Red Cap And Crest. Your Welcome And No Problem=)
Makes me feel so good that people love this video! Many special thanks to YOU!
You know your special because you love birds and life more than others, you are really caring soul being here in our sometimes but not all the times dark world.
Life is great and you know that -- so don't be so down on yourself because as creation says 'Bird's can Fly!" And so can YOU!
Hope this small gesture brightens your day and all tomorrows as well!
Fantastic video! BTW, that's a hawk screeching loudly and distracting our star from his job. I find it funny how little our guy allows himself to be distracted.
Bloody vandals! lol I love woodpeckers we have one around our way only ever seen it once but in the afternoon you can here it drilling away

any idea what bird is making that call in the very beginning? sort of a half-hearted scratchy call.

#1.) Why don't woodpeckers get headaches from all the pecking they do?
#2.) What does "pileated" mean?

#1.) WHOA! Their tongue is wrapped around their head? You BET I'll look this up! {LOL! "bird-brain"!}
#2.) OH! That does look like a Roman headwear!
Thanks again for your help!
