@JeffersonToblerone You think a witty person is a great mind. That is your foolishness talking and you're the arrogant one in telling people your idol (quite literally) has no comparison. So Cook now is more brilliant than all the philosophers we've seen. Fack off ya cant.
kennedy is a surprisingly excellent foil to cook, but i still think streep-greebling's finest moments were with chris morris in why bother. morris did the right thing in being a sterner, more surreptitious voice as interviewer, and seeing cook respond to those set ups, as well as forging his own is glorious. peter cook never lost his edge.
lol, this is hilarious! I'll have to watch the others soon.
Honestly, I think Cook must've been the funniest person who ever lived.. Stephen Fry was right when he said he was the funniest person who ever drew breath..
The days of the comic genius(Peter Cook, Monty Python) etc are alas sadley over. All we have to look forward to today is the likes of Graham Norton whos only comic brilliance is to say "fuck and cock" ect..
And to look at things on the internet, and act the flaming homosexual stereotype. "I have nothing to declare by my genius... OOoooo and this big cock up my arse!"
Well, Fry and Laurie were pretty good too. Utterly agree about Graham Norton who is engaging enough but very much a one trick (ahem) pony. I recommend the Streeb-Greebling interviews by Chris Morris from BBC Radio 4 if you can get 'em, they were hilarious together.
ludovic was not cut afterwards, he manged to actually keep up with cook, which nobody managed to do since moore swapped insults with him. ludovic was revered for his performance in this particular series of cook sketches about the 12 days of christmas, because he didnt just bow down to his quit wit, he challenged his comedic brilliance!
Sir Ludovic Kennedy (still going strong at the age of 87) is brilliant here, in many ways better in this sketch than even Peter himself. Watch for a second time. His timing is exquisite.
Sir Arthur Streeb Greebling (sometimes Greeb Streebling) was interviewed by Chris Morris for BBC Radio 3 a few years before Peter Cook's death. Put on the spot by Chris Morris's surreal questions an improvising Cook was wonderful!
I have that cd! I agree, its amazing! Really funny the tangents they both go off on. You would almost think that the bit about the 'fossilised christ' wouldn't be allowed on air...but I suppose as it was on radio 3, and the only people that could be offended was an old woman with a small dog in cheltenham, and a few students planning to avoid next days final exam, they decided that they would risk it....
They live in tiny watches, and tell the time with their hands. For the pious buisnessman on the go who needs to keep one eye on clock (and on christ) at all times.
@lil902 His comedy was not "too high brow" but it was irreverent and funny. I don't consider him a very intelligent person but compared to many idiots out there, yes he was but that's not saying much.

No-one else has ever even come close to Peter in the comic genius stakes; I'm not sure they ever will either.

not clever dirty jokes work best when people desperately need a reason to relieve their anxiety.

The reason Ludovic's timing is so spot on is that he was cut in afterwards. He wasn't actually present when Sir Arthur was being recorded.
