The translation needs a little tweaking: Sheikh al-Rais which the Imam is referring to is not a governor, it is Ibn Sina, the Islamic Philosopher. That is why he later says that 'even if we cannot prove this statement to be from Ibn Sina, it still has wisdom."
Wow, powerful speech. The only thing I don't agree with Ayatollah Khomeini is people calling him "Imam", especially Shia's. It's unfortunate the shah's father had to fuck up Iran in the first place, but thank God the people stood up and finally overthrew. Now you have a bunch of stupid teenagers ruining their country over the right to wear miniskirts and drink alcohol. God help them (Iran).
@trueballa32 You have to understand that there are 3 meanings of "Imam". It literally means "Leader". So, whether it is the leader (imam) of:
1. a mosque
2. Ali, the divinely appointed, sinless, infallible successors of Muhammad (12 totaling)
3. any of various rulers that claim descent from Muhammad (which can only be Shias, as they will be Sayids) and exercise spiritual and temporal leadership over a Muslim region (this is where Ayatullah Khomeini is labeled)
What year was this speech given?

So, this title can be deceiving.
