  • the guy next to jen is my father

  • Who becomes pregnant with no health insurance? Why is this our issue? My issue is that I am being forced to accept a bill that I am against. We cannot afford this as a nation!

  • This story is a very sad story; but has anyone read the bill. I find that most people who support it haven't read it. This bill would not prohibit companies from denying coverage. and they can still raise premiums as long as they give you adequate notice. Even Michael Moore has stated that this was written by and for the health insurance companies.

  • If you want to know the full story on Jenny Google Midge Hough or type it into you-tube and you will find it there. Jenny was a healthy young women of 24 who was denied health care insurance because she was pregnant. Pregnancy is considered a preexisting condition. She died as a direct result of not having insurance....

  • Rep. Lipinski needs to hear the voices for reform. Call right now: * Oak Lawn Office: 708-424-0853 * Chicago Office: 312-886-0481 * LaGrange Office: 708-352-0524 * Washington DC Office: 202-225-5701

  • Ma'am:

You should know that Lipinski is a callous weirdo. With the millions of people who have cancer and desperately need the "pre-existing condition" and the "health maintenance" in the bill, this cluck will vote against it because of the hugely lesser number of people who want abortions. Fact: 50% of all men over 65 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and millions of women with breast cancer need life saving operations. Not everyone is like Lipinski who has a great gov health plan.

  • Nixon and Kaiser Permanente, look up the actual audio tapes between them. Health Ins. Cos. were created with the help of the then gov't. FOR PROFIT, not to treat the sick, etc. Health Ins. Cos. are COMPANIES and self-enrichment is what they are for. Gov't is "we the people" so if you want to continue to vote in do nothing Repubs who if they'd spent the last decade paying attn to what was going on besides JUST being against Dems, would have "started" reform long ago!

  • @jennbatarseh - I could care less about Tricky Dick Nixon and whatever corrupt BS he did. Think about what you just posted, you just implied that Insurance companies were created by a Gov't that you want to now hand over whatever power you have left when it comes to healthcare coverage. I'm not gonna go into an economics lesson here. Health care would be much cheaper if Gov't had never gotten involved, insurance should be for catastrophic events. Do you file a an auto claim when you refuel?

  • @daverick - I value life much more than money, even people's lives that I don't care for. Your comment made me think about what's at stake here, we can choose to be compassionate through the free market of ideas and services. Or we can destroy everything good about this country with the swipe of a pen...all to get LESS services for MORE money. Because if you haven't noticed the gov't is highly efficient and cost effective....

  • The belief that we can just decide to adopt a free market approach is naive. In this country, we have moved so far from true free market, with all of the subsidies, tax breaks, and bailouts, that a move to free market would have a catastrophic effect on our economy. Because we, the people, are funding these companies through government benefits, I, for one, want my say in how it is spent. Don't you?

  • technically subsidies(the current ones anyway) and bailouts aren't free-market, it's corporatism. the kind where the government is propping up failing big businesses. but, the free-market they're after is Laissez Faire which is the kind of Corporatism where The Government is replaced by Big Business.

adamSmith, Father of Capitalism, was in favor of subsidies of New Industries to be sold off once it matures(telecommunication, green energy, etc.) and progressive taxation(meaning Tax rich people).

  • @somboo - Naive? I couldn't disagree with you more. You're saying that because this gigantic system is in place by years of complacency and indoctrination, that I should just continue to bend over and beg once a year for a minutia of difference. I think that you are naive for assuming that you have to give your power up to a bunch of THUGS just because "that's how it is." You are just perpetuating the system that got us here in the first place.

  • A free exchange for you to pick from an insurace company is not socialism. Look up the word and read the HCR. Don't just repeat what the insurance companies want you to believe. Educate yourself.

  • Why would anyone fathom that MORE Gov't involvement in the healthcare industry would solve the problems that obviously exist??? If we really had a true free market - the consumers would demand for such things to be covered and there would no doubt be companies that would take on the risk of insuring women that are pregnant or anyone that may be sick. Why does anyone think Gov't can wave a magic wand and fix everything with no unintended consequences? Free market demand = results.

  • Free market does not solve everything. We have a free market is what we have except for certain states, but that is beside the point. What people don't understand is that insurance companies do not want to insure everyone...they want to insure those that they can make money off of. Try having 4 car accidents in a year and get insurance and you will be DENIED. Rush Limbaugh is an idiot.

  • @MrCoolCoder562 insurance coverage is based on risk, if you are risky, you will either pay more or be denied coverage. Companies are not going to insure you if they will have to pay more for your claims than you put into premiums. So all that this bill will do is bankrupt insurance companies, because THAT'S a GREAT idea!

  • @dmboda

    Free market demand = results.

Yay for the free market! I agree. Look how wonderful it was for our current economic state!

Oh wait, it wasn't and it almost sent us into another depression.

  • your sarcasm is dually noted...

I find it interesting that you turn your nose up at the free market. Citing that it almost sent us into another depression. If we had actually been in a free market system I might agree with you, the fact is that we have not. The Federal Reserve dictates interest rates at artificial levels and creates bubbles, bubbles have to burst at some point. That's why we're in the state we are in.

  • @jennbatarseh - what's not practical is forcing through a bill that will send the deficit through the roof.

And joey is right she would not have been denied at a hospital, and the gov't would have picked up the tab already. We already have the gov't paying for healthcare, look at how good of a job they are doing...Medicare and Medicaid are rotten with fraud and abuse, not to mention they are the largest sources of unfunded liabilities that this gov't has.

  • @jennbatarseh - I'm sorry I'm not in favor of tyranny. I shall resist it with all my being. We will never agree on this matter, all you need to know is that I believe in personal freedom, the unabated pursuit and happiness, and non-aggression towards others.

We could argue minutia till we die, the point is GOV'T has been involved in healthcare since the 1960's, all it has done is driven up cost and stifled progress and efficiency. Why would anyone want them to "take it over?"

  • This video is in honor of Jenny. We wish we could have know you personally, Jenny. You must have been such an amazing person. We will hold you in our hearts, and our fight for health care justice will always be in honor of you. ---- And thank you, Midge & Dan, for your leadership and courage. It gives us hope. ----- Sincerely, Staff of the Campaign for Better Health Care
