  • Sounds so good! Great work, please keep the videos up! Inspirational. (16 year old drummer)

  • That is so clean! Many props, that sounds great. The way I learned it I play both kick and snare on the 4 the second time, but only the snare on the first time.

  • Great accents and timing man!! Except the real intro goes Snr-Snr Tom1 Crash...Not Snr-Tom1-Tom3...This is the real album version. But great video. Thanks!

  • you are correct with your bass and snare hitting at the same time... Jeff explains this a a bass drum bo didley, and he plays them together as well. GREAT JOB!

  • Dude - the bass drum and snare never hit together on 4 during that groove like you are demoing here. It's just the snare on 4... Other than that, nice job.

  • @thegougeman Yeah... I'm starting to realise that everyone plays this groove different. Even Jeff himself!!

I based my demo on Jeff's break down of that groove on his instructional video (if you search YouTube, you'll find clips of it) where he appears to play the kick and snare on 4. I know... it's not like that on the original recording... but anyway! That video is where I got my info from.

  • @MisterMR44 Yeah, I went and saw his break down of this beat even though on the original the kick is not there. Regardless bro - you still have an excellent feel on this song. You nailed the shuffle. Keep drummin my man...

  • @thegougeman Hey, thanks dude!

  • @thegougeman : you are wrong, the bass and snare hit together on 4. Why dont you listen to Jeffs Rosanna groove explained.

  • @d0bbb Dude, just listen to the original tune.. The bass drum and snare never hit together... Jeff may have modified it later on during live performances, but the original recording the bass drum and snare are always separate during the groove.. Just give the intro a listen again on the original recording and you'll see that we are right....Jeff even said that he did it both ways during a clinic....

  • thats not completely right. the ghosts are running the whole time!

  • Thank you so much for the awesome lesson, I set a personal goal to learn this, thanks to you I learned it in a couple hours, thanks again from one very happy New Zealander!!

  • Thats it. Yes...good job...

  • nice drum kitt !

  • Brilliant!

  • very nice drumming and fluent groove.

please explain me your trigger setting...I can't play ghost note in this way.

    please let me know

    thank you very much

  • @MrZilippo

    Thanks for the positive comment!

With regards to my trigger settings they are as standard / default. I haven't changed them at all.

  • Solid drumming man, nice work!

  • thanks...I'm thinking about buying one myself, but I'm hisitant because of the highhat...but you seem to handle it well :-)

  • im not a drummer''it sounds great''lol

    ghost note or not

  • Sound is amazing, I mean really reminds me of when my dad had a nice roland kit. Other then that it would sound better with a ghost note after the main snare. You probably already figured this out but if not try it out. :]

  • i would of got the pd 125 and got a snare stand insted of getting a pd85 and mouting it on the rack

  • right, he forgot to play the Ghost note after the loud snare stroke

  • @hejenoge: right!

  • :) nice!

  • Tight! shall we call u Jeff?

  • Your technique is so solid, always fun to watch!

  • Thanks dude!

  • hey man, good vid, but how did you record the sound? i suppose with the quickrec mode, but how did you converte the .td9 file from your quickrec mode to a file wich you can listen to on your computer?

  • I don't use the Quick Record as it's not possible to use the *.td9 file. The audio on all my videos is recorded directly from the TD-9 audio out to an Edirol R-09HR (which creates a *.mp3 file).

  • FASTER! FASTER! LOUDER! LOUDER! ;P

  • why, it's not always better when you play louder and faster...

  • (it was a joke... that's what the ";P" means.)

  • all right... sry misjudged.. ;)

  • good everything no probs except its a demo so id wanna see more of the kit rather u rocken the snare base hh and cymbal i wanna see the toms and stuff but other than that nice

  • Thank you for your comments. Just to explain... this video was done mainly to demonstrate the sticking of that particular drum pattern rather than the kit itself.

  • ahh i feel u well then u did exactly what u set out to do lol i misunderstood my bad

  • nice kit

  • Spot on, just watched Jeff do and yes great job

  • is on your high tom a snare sound ?

  • No, it's a regular tom sample but it is quite high pitched. If possible, it's best to watch the video in HQ mode... otherwise it can sound a little muffled...!

  • AWESOME, Dude!

  • alot of drum teachers teach you to turn your lefthand more vertical that that....does it work better for a crisp stroke or what?

  • No, it's not done intentionally. Unfortunately, my particular grip isn't very 'text book' at all! I'm still working on it! The 'traditional' grip does vary a lot from player to player though... Some have a more 'vertical' grip while others have more of a 'cradle' or 'cup' grip. I don't think there are advantages or disadvantages... I think it's just what suits the individual, without making them feel restricted.

  • Great vid! I have the same problem that you mention! I have a TD-3KW with the same kick pad (KD-8) and I have to play it very lightly because of my neighbors! I upgraded a few days ago the original tom pads (PD-8) to mesh pads PD-85BK, because they make a lot of noise; not very good for someone who lives in a apartment :)

Once more your video is great and the audio quality awesome... and of course, your drum technique is very good!

  • It's definitely a personal preference thing. Some V-Drum users I've spoken to actually prefer the KD-8 to the current KD-85 or 120... finding that the mesh head kick drums can feel too 'bouncy' when compared to an acoustic kick drum.

  • dude you rock thanx for that...verry helpful

by the way..I'll buy the same td9! it's looks awesome...

  • I bought the TD-9kx + twinpedal today, it's freakin' awesome !!!!! i REALLLYYY like it .... so many options etc. !!

  • Hey, that's cool! Make sure you join the unofficial V-Drums forums! I found it really helpful.

  • I HAD an accoustic set in the past xD, so I don't think my neighbours will not complain :P

btw in my street we have 4 drummers lol ...

  • Hey dude:p check out my video :P?? it's the juggle roll:P this is not ment to be advertising xD If you don't like this message you can delete it xD...

I will check out the Vdrums forum,

    RIGHT NOW xD

    kind regards,

    Leander

  • Ok thank you for the information :D ...

Ye i played on the 9kx in the drumstore and i REALLY liked it :P ... but what about the kd-8?

That's one of the few things I don't like.

A KD-120 would be a nice expansion:P Another like expansion is a VH-11 etc. etc.

  • The KD-8 is a good pad and feels okay, although I only use mine relatively lightly as it has quite high impact noise which my neighbours aren't to keen on! A VH-11 (great hi-hat pad) and a KD-85 (quieter than the KD-8) or 120 (if I can afford the extra) are two upgrades I'll be making eventually...! I'll also replace my two CY-8's with 12's or 14's. That's the great thing about V-Drums. They're easily upgradable! If you haven't already, join the (unofficial) V-Drums forum. Very informative.

  • Hey that was TIGHT !! .. I liked it !!... I'm getting a roland TD-9KX this saturday YYEAAAHH !!! I'm so excited :D .. I will buy: 9KX + extra CY12 + twinpedal: Iron cobra's

    I really like the 9KX don't you?

but how many serious drumkits are on the TD9 module ?

    kind regars,

    Leander

  • Hey, thanks!! You're really gonna like the TD-9. It's a great kit! Good choice getting an extra CY12 too... it's a nicer cymbal pad to play than the CY8 as it sways more realistically). There are a few good preset kits on the TD-9 as standard but it's easy to use so you'll be making your own kits pretty quickly. There are also downloadable preset kits from V-Expressions (search on Google) which are very good. Enjoy your TD-9KX!!

  • Thanks! I'm glad it's been helpful!

  • Awsome video! Really thankful that you played it from slow to realtime. Now i´m heading off to the drums to practice the beat!!! :D
