Looks fun.. I really need to get back into playing this game again.. I'm still an archer fan with my naginatas' protecting them.. but the one thing I really need to do it think more about my budget and to stop just upgrading units just because I can
I really like this idea, I try bringing a few ninjas now to every battle. I use some to sneak up on any matchlocks or siege weapons, and the rest i put behind my line.
Bow Hero is severely underrated. If you can get elite level bow damage on one and 225 range you can bait anyone into a bad attack, and they are great against cheesers who bring heavy gunners. The Bow hero is a big reason why in 2v2s my partner and I regularly crush standard army spammers, because as soon as their matchlocks are gone their loan swords have no support and no morale shocks to rout better samurai troops.
Personly I would add 2 yari sammies instead of 4 yari ashigaru to protect the rear.
Better morale, armor and damage to cavs. Also with their superior defense they can hold a line longer. Since you use them defense wise and not attack wise (using numbers to flank the enemy) that's how I would use them. Quality > Quantity.
Bow Heroes for general snipe/harrasment is a great idea, however, I think Heavy Gunners or Bow Warrior monks would work too and that would give you extra koku for more Ninjas
The reall weakness of this build is being up vs someone who will say "hey wtf is going on here where are his funds gone' holds his army back and starts scouting your army to find the hidden units. Probably won't happen often enough, but still...
@2Sjim777y True, but hopefully when my unupgraded vets get a lot of levels he'll be looking for cavalry ambushes or something. But beyond that hardly anyone does any real scouting in this game.
@RockSgtHail Oh believe me, I know all about what melee generals can do :D This build actually works well with a melee general because you have a last ditch morale shock option.
I know your strat does not require the use of a offensive melee general, but a fully specked general can easily tank and wipe 2 Great Guard (vets 2-3 ish). If you sent him with you light cav for early action you would win the cav battle much more frequently. That and guard mode/ speed upgrades allows you to excape with minimal casualties when things go south!
Very nice and intressting battle. its good that you added a bow compliment like the bow hero cause it will help alot with keeping the heavy gunners away. who have a atk range of 115-125 i think, not sure as i dont have the 2 latest dlc's :)
Is there a reason why you choose to not place your ninjas in front of your naginatas and then run them back right before the melee starts (so the ninjas can throw bombs but not do friendly fire)
Is that just too much micro? is there not enough time to place the ninjas in front throw bombs and fall back?
@klinerr1 Throwing them while they're moving could cause them to go awry. The best case scenario is getting them tied up in one big mass for maximum effect. Your naginatas don't really need to do the heavy lifting they just need to tank. Ninjas will cut anyone down quickly in melee provided they don't get swarmed, which is the naginatas job to prevent.
cav route when they are running around lots because of fatigue and they are not resistant to morale shocks. so if you do anything to hurt their morale when they are tired they will route
"Sorry about that - had to lock my cat in the bathroom ..." I loled so good :P

@number1fan007 Because the game is broken at the moment and I'm on hiatus until the patch.

@Gabriale55 Yeah that's me misspeaking, like when I call the workshop the "production building". Interference from other games I guess.

@mrshlmoltke I personally love the melee general, but sadly the standard army has kinda made him obsolete :/
