@GeenIdee2 When it backfires, there's so much pressure in the exhaust system it blows the muffler apart and can do the same to the exhaust manifold gasket.
the trick is inducing raw gasoline into the exhaust system by cutting off the ignition but fuel and air being drawn into the engine and out the exhaust without being burned,it collects in the exhaust, turning on the ignition allows the engine to start and this ignites the fuel collected in the exhaust and it explodes.this can blow the muffler off the car or truck.this only works real well with carburetor-ed engines only, fuel injection cuts off the fuel with the key off.
i used to love doing this, if you have a cat it will melt, i was pumping the gas rolling down hill for a good thirty seconds, when i turned it back on i lost my muffler and some hearing. it was worth it.
straight pipe is required to do this ? or stock is good ?

Will this damage a glasspack muffler? I own a 1969 Ford Falcon and recently put a glasspack on it. It never had a catalytic converter.

@Chinniciuni It'll blow all the fiberglass or whatever they shove in there out.

I used to do this all the time with my first car. I split the muffler wide open right down the seam. Then it was always loud.
