  • don't get me wrong this is a great performance.....just wish it was a little slower the a section can really sing slower...

  • david russel is nothing ........ and everything at the same time

  • wonderful David!

  • I'm currently working on this piece, and wow. It's great to have an interpretation by a guitarist of Russell's caliber available to refer to. Gotta love YouTube. Meanwhile, I've got a ways to go... :D

  • For my taste, David Russell is the person who currently best plays Tárrega, among many other composers. His technique is flawless, but he brings just the right amount of emotion into the pieces. Unlike many other guitarists, some better known than Russell who are technical but soul-less,

  • sound quality sucks for this vid, bet it sounds awesome live though!

  • To the unconditional haters..as NUTNFANCY wud put it,"you r armchair elitists!" This musician(regardless of ur taste/feelings)ACTUALLY plays. hes not sittin in his armchair-laptop on thigh-deriding others skillsets while potato chip crumbs trickle down his mouth in2 his keyboard.Has he studied adelita for 2 decades n the worlds leading scholar of this piece? No. But hes damn credible/legitimate.so put away ur tabs, take a break from playin greenday & learn to read music n play classical.then bitch

  • fantastic musicality!

  • one of the 1st songs I ever learned

  • a good performance, thanx for posting

  • everywhere i look at this fine musician ,theres ugly stupid comments around him.hes an expert ,dont you get it. shut up and listen,or better still, get a guitar.and lets see ya on the ole tube..from an irrate scotsman.....grrrrrrr.

  • ''papakiev'':Eres un ''papanatas''...Compara a DALÍ y PICASSO...MOZART Y BEETHOVEN...Eres un ''tragaldabas''.Opinas como el culo!.It's my opinion.

  • @churchula

chakos abakos aglupos y huyokas. apara de floko seruane.

    right ?

  • Mr.David Russel is one of the best! That's the point.

  • wonderful

  • Dear Papakiev, "David Russell is nothing". That is probably the most idiotic comment ever posted on Youtube. Well done, You win nothing.

  • @guidovg

Russel is from old generation, I don't like this performance . he showed nothing playing adelita, he played it like 1000 other guitarists

don't you agree with me ?

  • @papakiev Well, in my opinion it's "Adelita". It's a simple and charming little tune. One that most guitarist's learn within the first couple weeks of study. I never expect to be blown away by "Adelita" but I do enjoy hearing it played thoughtfully and well. Mr. Russell does just that here I believe...and moreover it seems Mr. Russell is just in the process of starting a recital or masterclass and playing this nostalgic piece just to tune or get a little grin out of it....

  • @guidovg

I like this comment better than your first one.

Ok, your favourite is D. Russel, my favourite is Aniello Desiderio. Shall we compare them ? No, we can not. It's another level of technique, another quality of sound.

  • @guidovg Its a little more complicated than the 'first couple of weeks' lol. It's intermediate at worst.

  • @guidovg Dear guido & papa, while I do agree that it is compltely wrong to say DR is 'nothing' it is more important that we all stop putting musicians / guitarists in some kind of ranking order. Both DR and AD are great artists and while different they both have something to contribute. It is absolutely uninteresting to speculate who would be better than the other, they are simply just different. Thank God for that! So please stop all this nonsense!

    =))

  • @guidovg the guy doesnot know what a mater of Art is..what a stupid comment that guy said..even its not his taste of music that comment he said has no place toward masetro david

  • This is for papakiev:

Its bad to compare papakiev. Please search in Youtube for Sviatoslav Richter and you'll understand why the guitar has a small world. I think Russell is the best guitarist ever because he doesn't play a big amount of music, but he makes that music superlative. And Desiderio plays fantastically the italian works, that is the same thing that Russell does, so, everything is about the interest of the people. Sorry for my english

  • I find it disturbing that the description of an other human being as "nothing" should come from the modern Germany. Why are such ugly comments allowed on You Tube? We can't outlaw stupidity and ignorance but we shouldn't have

to read it and be left with it in our minds.

  • Very few classical guitarists in the world, including Desiderio, are in the same ranking as David Russell,.. your comment is nothing.

  • @papakiev well your opinion is pretty idiotic

  • @Nocturne305

    ha-ha

    man, wake up !

  • @papakiev Fair enough my friend. It's true, I have an affinity for David Russell but I can list many others as well. There are really so many quality guitarists out there...it's such a fickle world though how some musician's become bankable recording artist's and the rest are left playing weddings, etc...

  • Desiderio is an excellente performer with an extraordinary technique and amazing tone production.

Russell as well has a great technique but imo is a superior interpreter. Just look at the Rossiniana rendition of both. Russell's is more musical

  • i wish the guy recording could sit still.

  • pretty good ... people who folow rules never improve!!!...

  • I'm not too familiar with Russel's work, are you saying he follows the rules too much? or are you saying the oposite?

  • No this is a great performance. It isn't meant to be performed as if to a click track. He plays very expressively. Awesome performance.

  • Russell uses the "tempo rubato". It work not just to slow down, but to speed up also.

  • Right, without rubato this nice salon piece would sound too didactically and maybe too waltzy. Both David Russel and Liona Boyd play it using rubato. It is justified, in my opinion. It is not a waltz, rather a miniature devoted to a nice young lady, after all. Thanks for posting.

  • guys music is not about rules it is about breaking rules :-)

  • Well put... that's a good description of 'rubato' and this is definitely a piece where it is very suitable.

  • Any more videos from this concert?

  • One of the best Adelita I have ever heard. He is great.

  • grande russell
