ROFLMAO at 1:14, Tommy Twiddlebug thinking the smoke alarm is a radio, testing it and saying "Listen to that groovy sound!"
If they made this segment in the 1990s or 2000s, they probably would've used a more modern smoke detector sound effect, or maybe even one of those modern fire alarm signals that sound like smoke detectors (like the SpectrAlert by System Sensor.)
@NLind I remember seeing this around 1987 when I was 14. It is not one of the classic Sesame Street skits but I agree with NLind how they have the sound of an old electromechincal smoke alarm dubbed in. That is something I could never figure out. It is nice to see this after all these years.
I like how the Twiddlebugs eat things like one bean or one raisin for dinners because of their small size. I wonder if there are times they have one pea or one peanut, or even one french fry at the dinner table?
I love Sesame Street, but those high-pitches voices are really quite annoying.
I actually find the idea of Ernie pouring petrol all over their milk-carton house and lighting it quite humourous, expressly to see if the smoke detector REALLY works.
I do like Ernie's laugh though. With Bert's laugh...wow. Hilarious! :D
The smoke detectors we have in our house says "FIRE" if the code-3 signal for fire beeps and "CARBON MONOXIDE" if it beeps fast. But I wish some with speakers like that had the same feature as voice-evacuation fire alarm speakers that say "Attention! Attention! There has been a fire reported in the building. All occupants, please leave the building by the nearest exit. Do not use the elevators."
@tpirman1982 Yeah. Voice-evacuation fire alarms aren't as loud. I remember being at South Shore Mall in Braintree, MA when they were going off once, and it wasn't that bad
@tpirman1982 They're all Simplex speaker/strobes. Many of them are the vertical 4903 type, as well as TrueAlert speaker/strobes. It's some kind of networked Simplex 4120 system (when I heard it go off, it just did Slow Whoop over and over).
I never knew about this until today (or maybe I did and forgot about it). I wonder who performed the superintendant... I feel he talks a bit like some Jerry Nelson characters.
Now here's one I don't remember. But I like it. Their voices are higher than usual here, especially Timmy's. And note how Thomas calls his daughter Tessa rather than Tina this time.
wait dosen't Ernie live in the basement apartment because at 0:01 that dosen't look like the outside of his home

Which was the one where she said, "I know! I know! We'll use the DOOR!"
Dude, he poured water right on their house! LMAO.

what episode is that from?

I like that smoke alarm! It's a First Alert SA120, with the sound of an older electromechanical smoke alarm dubbed in.

@wileyk209zback Hmm. Next time I go to South Shore Mall, I'll have to look around and see what kind of speakers they are.

It's a shame Sesame Street teaches about fire safety on rare occasions.

It's a good thing they have Ernie to help them all the time, otherwise they'd burned to death a long time ago

Where there's smoke, they pinch... ah, I don't have the heart to say it. Thanks for posting these rarities for us fans.

According to the Wiki, it's Kevin Clash. And now that I've read it, I do hear a bit of Elmo in his voice.

@Garrettk41 Good point.
At first, I thought it was Pam Arciero, since the Superintendent sounded a bit like Grungetta Grouch to me.
