  • Honestly, all you liberals and libertarians who like to play the moral equivalence card when comparing Islam to Christianity just shows how you don’t know that much of either one. But i guess life is too busy to read the Bible or the Quran to know what they say.

  • excuses for muslims?

how about understanding it's better not to promote hatred and fear?

  • This is bordering on painful to watch. If anybody makes excuses for despicable behavior, it's wrong. But fuck dude, strawman arguments. I'm a liberal, and I don't condone or excuse deplorable behavior. Tucker Carleson is an idiot, and Sam Harris is selling a book. That's their reasoning. But seriously, Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris and Steven Pinker, all in the same boat, all love this strawman stuff so they can seem like they're victims.

  • After seeing so many videos of people like Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens being brought in for a TV news/opinion segment, I have to say it was refreshing to see this interview done by Tucker Carlson. While I can't claim to be a personal Carlson fan, he at least has the professional courtesy to let Harris to finish his thoughts and attempts to engage in a conversation with him (he responds to responses) . Thank you, Tucker - You are infinitely better than Bill O'Reilly.

  • Not to take away from what Sam was saying, but that was a hell of lot more than a one sentence thesis! Also, he must have taken a cue from Christopher Hitchens to stop wearing a tie, because I've only seen him wear one in one other (earlier) interview. As to the content, something these two aren't understanding is that politics and social settings drive the applications of dogma. The Bible is every bit as intolerant as the Koran, but secular values have tamed the influence of the former.

  • @SLAM234 Likewise, Sam Harris is spot on. On the "racist" issue, we need to speak out against the conflation of religion and race. We also need to speak out against the conflation of culture and race, cultures change a few centuries ago europe had a feudal culture was that "White Culture"? We really need to attack this notion that all cultures and religions are equivalent to race, as if we'd be having such a conversation if Aztecs started sacrificing virgins in our cities.

  • Right wingers are taking the wrong lesson from this, because they are so obsessed with their us vs them anti-left anti-liberal mentality, they're missing the bigger picture. Liberals are doing the same thing, because they see racists criticizing Islam and because they're absorbed in their war against Christian theocracy and inequality, they are missing the big picture.

  • tottaly agree with harris, im an atheist liberal and im appalled by other liberals who take multi-culturalism (which if used appropriatlly is good) to the level of defending barbarians who want us dead.

  • Our own religious lunatics! ha ha - Harris slipped that one in there so smoothly. This weird liberal dogma + financial pressure from Saudis has made Europe into a bomb waiting to go off, culturally speaking but literally too if we dont wake up!

  • Dogma is one of the major problems, I totally agree with Sam Harris.

  • Tucker agrees because he and Sam are discussing Muslim extremists. Ask him if he understands that Islam per se is not the cause of this extremism, but religion itself in all its forms, and he'll quickly say that Christianity is different. It isn't. Fundamentalist Christians are every bit as determined to create a police state in which the Bible trumps everything: the Constitution, free speech, civil rights for gay and lesbian citizens. The two men agree on Islam, but for very different reasons.

  • Christianity is different. I'm an atheist but to say that christian extremism is the same as muslim extremism is just false. I think both are awful and mean surrendering ones faculties, but I think they are different kinds and different degrees of awful.

  • @BSproductions45 It amazes me how these Christians so easily bash Muslims and can't see they're beliefs are just as dangerous -Hypocrites!

  • @Lennon4ever1 really!? You are going to compare radical Christianity with radical Islam??? Wow, just wow. Islam right now is more culpable fore needless human suffering then Christianity has been for a very long time.

  • @44warjunkie Absolutely I compare the two! Of course, fortunately - Christianity as a whole has undergone an evolution from it's fundamentalist 'heretic'-burning past, but just watch Jesus Camp if you want to see the potential for the darker side of Christianity to regress back to it! My comparison is that superstitious fundamentalist faith like 'Islam' AND Christianity are dangerous to free speech and civil rights..

  • @Lennon4ever1 i also fear the resurgence of Christian fundamentalism, but it won't do us any good for the time being to equate all religions as the same. Religion is a word like sports; there are sports like soccer and others like kickboxing. Clearly one presents more of an impediment to a health than the other. Right now in 2012, Islam is kickboxing. And you are trying to say that kickboxing is just like soccer.

  • @44warjunkie Well, at a basic level- these religions are the same...They both attempt to impose 'religious law' on the rest of us with their outdated barbaric holy books which BTW have 0 evidence behind them!! (Islam is the worst culprit at the present time) with horrific 'Sharia law' and calling for the execution of cartoonists for Christ's sake! -No pun intended.

  • @44warjunkie I urge you to watch one of Sam Harris' lectures where he clearly illustrates blind faith is the problem. The sooner civilizations shed their superstitious 'faith' and embrace science and reason, the better off we will all be. Your sports analogy is off, because I'm aware of the differences in religions but see the similarities in the dangers of possible fundamentalist cults that hijack them. I will ask you straight -Are you a christian?

  • @Lennon4ever1 I don’t think you get the basic premise of my argument. I’m not denying the past transgressions of Christianity, but Islam and what Muslims believe should concern us first before anything else about religion should concern us. And i'm also not saying leave what Christians believe alone, i'm saying don't say they are just as bad as the jihadists. Christians today are the lesser of the two evils.

  • @44warjunkie Well then, I guess I'm in partial agreement -Yes Islam is the main cause for concern and worry. But there's plenty of evil in the Bible just like the Koran, and that is what fuels these nut-jobs in the first place! Just remember -an abortion clinic bombing is Christian terrorism just like 911..even though these crazies are a minority. At their base -these religions are all potentially dangerous and I stand by that comment 100%

  • @44warjunkie Anyway -We'll talk more later I'm off to work graveyard shift...cheers 44warjunkie

  • @Lennon4ever1 You too buddy. Always enjoy a good and respectable debate with a fellow youtuber. A rare and unusual behavior right here, most people would just dumb themselves down by retorting to each other’s arguments. Sadly, not many people can agree to disagree anymore. We have to call names and resort to petty childish behavior. Anyways, look forward to hearing from you again.

  • @44warjunkie We have not seen much 'watering down' of Islam over the past 1600 years that we have seen in Christianity obviously. But, there are sinister Christian organizations out there that want nothing less than Christian indoctrination in every aspect of American education and NO separation of church and state what-so-ever...some of these fundamentalists want gays executed or at least locked up for instance. We can't have that!

  • @44warjunkie BTW.. here's a quote to ponder....'Once Christianity lost it's right to burn heretics at the stake, their best argument is gone!' -Issac Asimov

  • well there are moments that i don't think he states it well, but i totally agree. haven't most of us atheist liberals at least gotten this a long time ago. religious fundamentalist freaks are always a threat: christian, muslim, buddhist, hindu, jewish, wiccan, blah blah blah, they all are fucked up if they're extremist.

  • What a difference with Bill O'Reilly. A pleasure to watch.

  • forget the muslims and make peace with the killer whales. they're taking over after you religious nuts are done nuking eachother. if you don't believe me watch "shamu pelican"

  • "The irony for me has always been that, you know, if the Jihadists ever took power in this country..."

    I want whatever Tucker's smoking...

  • Idiot.

  • seriously, what do you mean? what, to you, does it mean to be left or liberal?

  • A liberal wants change, but considers the consequences. Plus they have intelligence.

Leftists want revolutions and rely on idiotic claims, propoganda, and exaggerations. Not to mention, that they always call people fascists and racists when they disagree with them, along with that, they shout people down before they could speak.

    That right there is fascism.

  • i see you clearly have no problem with blanket statements...maybe the voiceless are trying everything they can to obtain a voice. is that such a bad thing. i mean, realistically, what would you propose to these people who dont have news networks to promote their view?

  • Liberals arent clueless against extremists... they just want to defend people's rights to individual beliefs and freedom or expression. They want to guard against racism being promoted by Right-wing fuckwits like Carlson and O'reilly and beck.

  • A) 9/11 = inside job.

    B) The Red Army Faction and many other resistance groups (totally secular!) who fought against the economic system were NOT poor/ uneducated/ without alternatives, but the very contrary. His argument is totally flawed.

    C) Today Islamic fundamentalism is a pure expression of POLITICAL circumstances.

    D) Economic hardships as well as the Chistian fundamentalists and warmongers (like Cheney) CLEARLY strengthen alle those Islamic radicals they didn't arm in the first place!

  • A) Bullshit

    B) The RAF followed National Socialist doctrine which is in effect a secular religion

    C) When was Shariah law reasonable and what circumstances changed this?

    D) Most of the attacks e.g. 9/11, Glasgow bombing etc were carried out by well off Muslims.

I suspect your views are clouded by your ideas on race.

  • Aaaaaaargh!

    Aaaaargh!

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

  • That response includes all the wit that I had anticipated.

  • YOU IDIOT!

    YOU IDIOT!

    Your "comment" is like

" A) No B) Yes C) Poopsi D) King Kong was the first Prez of the US"

A "secular" religion? The internationalist, left-wing hunters and killers of Nazis (Hans Martin Schleyer SS officer) being Nazis? "Most of the attacks were carried out by muslims" Neither on topic, nor true. Nor relevant.

    IDIOT!!!!!

  • The RAF operated very much along the lines of the SA. That the National Socialists killed off their left wing (The SA) does not make the leftists any less less National Socialist in their doctrine if one is to look at the facts. In Northern Ireland everyone is Christian and yet they are killing each other because of their Christianity - go figure, things must be looked at in more detail.

  • Taking your 9/11 comment as if it were even a serious suggestion where is your proof? What motive would the US have to blow up its own financial centre? Nevermind the number of accomplices the government needed to attack themselves without giving away key evidence.

  • As for my points on Islam you have not yet proven that Islam was ever a docile religion. Please tell me the point at which political circumstances changed to make Islam so extreme? Was it the creation of Islam? The breakdown of the Ottomans? The multiple defeats to the Russians/Austrians/Spanish etc or does it pre-date all of these conflicts?

  • It's a shame how Sam Harris takes part in the Orwellian absurdity that

    1. Terrorism is a threat

    2. Terrorism and war has islamic roots AT ALL

    3. Wars are not started by a bunch of greedy old white guys but for some other reasons (social or religious)

That makes him just another propaganda channel, despite his clever breed of atheism.

  • Carlson called Cheney a hero the other day for saying he doesnt give a shit what americans think

    just another shill

  • bammbamm12- grow up mate. Quit with the hysterics. And do some reasearch before you start spewing shit. To say that he is pro isreali is a joke.

  • if by definition, you educate a muslim from the middle-east. inadvertently open his eyes to whats happening in his world because of Bush/Cheney policys & war. but yet,so surprisingly for the neo-cons, he reacts through terrorism in fighting for his belifs, in freedom for his country, is that really any surprise?.... is not there a better reason NOT to elect Obama for regaining some sense of SANITY in the world for our fucked-up past political Bush/Cheney fuck-ups? vote in '08.

  • Imperial war on terra, genocide and economic war will not fade with another puppet from the CFR, the Israel lobby, the establishment, the one-party-system of the US. Obama wants WAR, with Afghanistan, with Iraq, and with Iran. And with Pakistan. And so on. No progressive mind will be accepted as a presidential candidate. You are just a slave, an ant, a battery for the FRB, the Bilderbergers, the banksters.

  • He gave him time because he's one of the smartest people along with Hitchens, Carlin, Dawkins...etc...Truth is sometimes hard to hear..

  • Greatest minds alive!

  • Harris can't hold a candle to Dawkins.

  • Zionist liberals and Communists are on the same page.

  • It's sometimes said that the most difficult thing for an imaginative person to imagine is an unimaginative person. I love the point Harris makes here - that rational people (i.e. American "liberals") have difficulty understanding the threat of Islam because it's so alien to their way of thinking, while so called "conservatives" can understand it because they already have a touch of the same insanity themselves. I agree. Carlson glances over that point, of course.

  • Can't agree more. Sam Harris says what he says with such wisdom and clarity that even the conservatives have to admire his water-tight arguments.
