I downloaded boatloads of Judy's songs from NAPSTER. I really enjoyed this 7.46 minute video and history of the band. I agree w/ everyone's comments I loved the Judy's and saw them in Dallas but had no idea that would be the last time - I thought they were going to be so big - like the Beatles!
LOVE the boys from my backyard!! I grew up in Sagemont literally 10 min North and ohhh how I remember these songs...reminds me of all those night at Numbers!
Sooooo much better than the B-52s, TMBG, Dead Milkmen, Violent Femmes.... this band should have been HUGE. Underwater Fun. Still cannot believe how perfect that song is....
Man, I saw them a million times. I remember a show at the Ritz in particular. At the end of the first set after the light bulbs were broken in Joey, the venue's lights went down. I was up against the stage and we were all banging on the stage to get them back out. The lights came back up and my hands were shredded, but it was so much fun I didn't even notice (and I wasn't on anything!) What a great band.
Without a doubt one of the most unappreciated bands of all-time. For some reason, they never reached the next level---but they were incredibly entertaining.
My uncle was in the Judy's, he was the drummer, Dane, and it sux that the Judy's broke up, and Mr.Bean (david) is now a science teacher. And whenever he tells students about the lab equipment, he sings... "IM TO SEXY FOR MY LAB COAT! TO SEXY FOR MY LAB COAT!! IM TO SEXY FOR MY GOGGLES! TO SEXY FOR MY GOGGLES!"
(B) He's also playing with Beans Barton and the Bi-Peds, and still kicking ass and taking names. (Well, he's had to take a break while he heals up, but hopefully he'll be back up soon!)
Wow, this was something to find! I have the Judy's on March 12 for an abbreviated set at the Music Awards and was looking for footage when I found this. Nice work - I loved seeing "Right Down The Line."
What a great mini-documentary! I bought Washarama from Bill's Records in Dallas in 1989. I had a radio show at KLSU in Baton Rouge, LA in 1993 and would always play some Judy's songs. People would always call and request more. We made some audio carts of the Judy's that still are in the KLSU library.
Now that I have them on CD I'm annoying all of my "under 40" friends by making them listen to them. I remember being a 17 yo in Austin, TX in 1981. I think we snuck into Club Foot but it's SO long ago, I wouldn't swear to it. I was a sick twist even then and they seemed to be reading my mind as they wrote their songs!
That was great. What a trip back in time. We saw them every time they played houston and became pseudo groupies. Still have the vinyls. Rock on Rock Island!
I remember when they opened up for theB-52's here in Austin, back in the 1980's,their first song was Somewhere over the rainbow,it just blew away the crowd!!
Thanks for posting this. I wish I could have seen them live but I was very young then. My cousin Sonja listened to them and that's how I heard them. I go through periods every couple of years were I listen to them again.
I was at Rice from 82 - 86 and we loved The Judy's... also liked a local band Fab Motion... whatever happened to them? Does anyone know where to get digital downloads of Judy's?
Thanks for posting this! The Judys were awesome. I grew up in Texas and The Judys were the best ting to come out of Texas in the '80s. They deserved to be SO much bigger than they were.
hell yeah-loved the Dishes-Jebus, i aint thought about them in so long,Beep Beep and more-I just cant think right now-the record was "Hot Diggety Dog"-from what I understand, one of them dudes owns a bar on Washington Avenue-The Meteor Lounge i think, something like that
Last I heard, Jimmy had a clerical job somewhere and plays with Beans Barton & The Bipeds. They do play the famous Dishes songs, including The Night I Dreamed I Was Elvis, Girls With Glasses, and the Dishes cover version of I Am The Walrus.
Spoke to Trout Fishing a couple years back up in the northeast and they said Jimmie worked at a large music store/chain (can't remember now). I haven't been able to put together a trip to Houston to see Beans.
I love this band, my old album of them skips and I've been trying to get a replacement on ebay. Please oh Please enable embedding so that I may have this on my website and let everyone know how much I love/loved this band!!!! Please
