  • @Bigroberto2008

It could quite possibly be your fuel pressure regulator.

  • i have a 99 vw jetta with a 2.0 and starts and runs but when driving it seems to have a dead spot in the gas pedal could this be the tps

  • You might have a bad TPS in your Jetta, however I would not replace it until you test it.

  • I would recommend getting a service manual from your local auto parts store. The manual will break down the test procedure for the TPS. Good luck!!

  • Thanks for the vid, I have 98 ML320 55k mi. When starting it it won't go over 10 mi/hr for the first mile or so, pushing the gas pedal won't make a diffrence in the speed. Then it will run normal. Do u think this is related to TPS? Thanks

  • It is possible that your TPS is bad in your ML320. I would recommend testing it before replacing it to confirm it’s bad. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the video, found it simple and to the point. Would this sensor be the reason my Ford Ranger 3.0 4x4 w/5speed lose power on freeway as soon as i go uphill? I could be going 80 and ill lose 30mph quickly. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the video but I'm not sure if this is what Im looking for. 2003 for expedition shuts off while driving. Engine shuts off light stay on raido , AC runs engine dead. I sit for 3 min and it turn back on. I changed the fuel filter and the dealer can not find the problem.

  • I would like to help you out however without having the vehicle in my possession it would be hard to do, I would recommend taking it to another shop to get a second opinion. Good Luck!!

  • @trhamil WHAT!!! a dealer that cant find the problem on there own car who woulda thought LOL if you want it fixed go to a real mechanic

  • I would like to say THANK YOU very much! Your video helped me replace a bad TPS in a 2001 Dodge Durango and now my car works and runs smoothly! :) No more check engine light! I took a test drive for 50 miles back and fourth and so far so good! There would be periods when at a red light the idle RPM would fluctuate from 600-900 but it would stay constant at 750 mostly. I am holding my breath for now. I was 2 weeks from selling my car. I'm going to continue test driving my car for now. Thank you.

  • i have a 1999 camaro it starts up and runs porely for a short while then it dies it tries to to die as it's running i have to keep giving it gas to keep it running but it still dies

  • It is possible that your Camaro has a bad throttle position sensor; you could also have low fuel pressure. It is hard to diagnose without the car in my possession. Good luck!

  • Great video... would this be the same way to do it for a '05 Acura RSX? Thanks.

  • Yes this would be a similar procedure in your RSX, however I do not think you can get the TPS separate from the throttle body for your car.

  • I have a '99 Dakota R/T. Lately, I've been having problems with it shifting back and forth between 2nd and 3rd when going uphill, almost like the truck can't decide which gear to be in. Could this be a TPS problem?

  • I don't think this is your problem. You might have a problem with your governor pressure solenoid and or your governor pressure sensor. Good Luck!

  • I have a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34. My car at times Stalls out. It will Idle high and low and then Stall Out. I have the TPS but is it as Easy to change as you did this one on the Navigator ? Thanks for Taking the Time to Answer My Question....

  • The TPS in you Monte Carlo should be pretty easy to replace and is a straight forward replacement. Good Luck!!

  • Could anyone do me a favor and read/help me with this post about my 2000 Buick's TP sensor? I just want to make sure I have installed it right. You have to google: 2000 park avenue installing tps sensor

It will then be the first entry. Thanks!

  • To replace the TPS in your Park Avenue remove shield, disconnect the TPS connector from the sensor, remove the two screws that attach the TPS to the throttle body, and then remove the TPS. Install the new TPS with the throttle valve in the closed position, apply thread lock compound to the TPS screws, install screws and tighten them to 2N.m (18 Ib in), Install connector, and reinstall shield to complete repair.

  • I also have a problem i have a 1998 buick regal gs and it haves the check engine light on with a code that a scanner read of p0122 that is related with the tps but i already replace it but the pronlem is still present need some hepl please

  • It is possible that the new part was bad right out if the box, did you test your wiring, and or the new TPS to make sure it's within specs?

  • For the 98 durango you might need to clean the throttle it might be dirty if you also feel a idle that might be your problem.....good luck

  • So? Did the check engine light on came back on or what happend?

  • I have a 98 Durango v8 5.2. I can start it but it wont stay running if I take my foot off the pedal. I was told that it may be my TPS so I replaced it after watching your video for guideance and still doing the same thing. Please help

  • You might want to check the idle air control motor in your Durango to make sure it’s working correctly. I have also seen bad aftermarket TPS's right out of the box.

  • dont u have to adjust the sensor after u put the new one on

  • It depends on the vehicle, some have adjustments and others do not.

  • hi i've got a question...on my 96 grand am 2.4L it jerks a little bit when i slowly accelerate and it sometimes wants to cut off on me, could it be my TPS sensor??....i've recently had a tune up and i changed my o2sensor , and i had the throttle body cleaned and it still jerks, it makes slowly accelerating a pain, at times i have to drive rough just to avoid the problem, but could it be my TPS sensor??

  • The TPS might be going bad in your Grand Am, however if it is going bad you should have a check engine light on with a TPS code. If you have no codes you might want to start looking some were else?

  • @canobd2 well my CNL does come on and off occasionally and i have a code reader at home that reads P0172 system to rich bank 1, and i''ve had everything checked on that car but for some reason when i slowly accelerate it jerks and at times it wants to cut off, i have to lift my foot off the gas pedal so that the rpm can go back up.....so i don't kno what it could be....

  • If your Grand Am is throwing a P0172 code, I would start diagnosing this problem first. You could have a leaking fuel injector, a bad ignition coil, a dirty fuel injector, etc. any one of these problems can make your car run sluggish. I hope this helps, good Luck!!

  • @canobd2 thanks i apprecaite it......

  • @canobd2 thnks i found the problem it was actually a vaccum leak and it was sucking in air everytime i accelerated, it was a hose about the size of ur pinky that was bad and now it runs like a kitten and no more CNL.....so thanks for ur help my grand am has no more problems anymore!

  • I have a 1994 3000gt. it lacks initial acceleration power and idles a little hesitant. I was told it might be the TPS. But the engine light is not on. Is there a sure fire way to check if the TPS is indeed the problem?

  • To check the TPS in your 3000GT, you should have .3 - 1.0 volts close throttle and 4.5 - 5.5 volts wide open throttle (back probe the connector to get the readings). If it is not within specifications replace it. Good luck!!

  • hey, i had a wierd idle on my 1992 eclipse gst and i replaced the tps sensor today and now i have a check engine light i know i replaced everything correctly, is it just the computer getting use to it? because the car runs fine now but it is still idling funny so that wasnt the problem but still why do i have a check engine light now

  • What code(s) are you getting from your car; did you check for any vacuum leaks?

  • @canobd2 if i take it to autozone will they be able to check the codes since its older? and i have kinda checked for vacuum leaks with baby powder but idk how good of a job i did

  • I'm not sure if Autozone can help you out. Good Luck!!

  • i have a 96 mustang.. the o/d turns on by itself and my car stalls can chaqin the tps make this stop?

  • I don't think changing the tps is going to fix your problem. Good Luck!!

  • thanks so much

  • im sorry let me clarify will it cause the car to stall or stop running ?

  • Yes, a bad throttle position sensor can cause your vehicle to stall.

  • @canobd2 FML learnt the hard way :(

  • hi i have a 2002 dodge stratus check engine light recently came on and was told it was the tps. will this cause the car to stop when stopping at say a red light? and where is it located on the dodge? thanx for any help
