  • word, i want an volvo c30, or similar, but fully electric, nu fucking "plugin hybrid" put LiPo batteries in instead of the ICE!

  • the thing i dont get about electric cars is that energy has to come from somewhere, unless it's coming from wind generators or nuclear power then it just changes where the emissions come from, instead of emissions coming from the exhaust of your car it comes from the power plant that supplies the power to wherever you charged your car, no?

  • if you can choose where you get your electricity from like a public charging station with solar panels think of all the sunny days those big roof solar collecters would have offset emissions . im not claiming that this is the complete soultion but it's a good chunk of it , hope to hear back from ya

  • that sounds great but the only bad thing about solar panels is that it takes more energy to make them than they will ever make in their entire life

  • yeah but after the solar infostructure begins to be put in place more plants, companies ,stores, plug in hybrid cars , plug in hybrid RV's , plugin hybrid semi riggs and homes will be running on them thats when youll really start to see the

curb in emissions with out making major changes to the transit system.

  • That is also the same problem with gas, it takes more energy to refine gasoline than is produced. Also with hydrogen, it takes a lot of energy to make it.

  • hydrogen power doesn't look like it'll work out... recharge station costing $180k and regular electric being 4 times more efficient.... what seems to be a good idea now is a fully electric car with an efficient on-board diesel generator... it's funny that you probably believe in free speech and hate fascism but if you could you'd probably thumbsdown my comment into disappearing. pretty lame.

  • I didn't thumbsdown your comment.

  • HYDROELECTRIC?

  • I didn't notice where you said something about a 20 year warranty on a battery, 20 years impresses me, though anything under a 300 to 400 mile driving range between charges is no good for me...

  • wow that was pointless :-/

  • how so SomeGuy0000 ? how was it pointless?

  • i don't understand how that is a "service", looks more like a diagnostic test

  • Diagnostic testing is part of the servising

  • you "diagnose" newer combustion engine cars in the same way... "servicing" an electric car would be like changing out the battery once it wears out which today would be pretty expensive maybe not so in the future.

  • car mechanics will still check the tyres, steering, brakes and lights, tech guys will check the battery. It will create more jobs not less, and the cost of battery checks are minimal compared to the hours of labour associated with oil filters, head gaskets, fuel injection systems, exhausts, etc, etc. Car makers are terrified of electric cars being available cos its goodbye parts industry (except tyres) and goodbye selling new petrol engined cars every few years.

  • Still need to service basic safety like brakes, tyres, lights, steering, but all the filthy 'mysterious' ailments that go hand in hand with Infernal Combustion Engines dissappear. If the batteries need replacing in 5-10 years (50k-100k miles) then so what, I bet its easier and cheaper to replace the battery for £2-6k than buy a new car for a similar amount from dodgy dealers who sell us another high-maintenance I.C.E. vehicle. Clean EVs are low maint and last a long time.

  • lol good bye car mechanics

  • Certainly was not a service, maybe a "health check" on batteries but electric car still has steering, suspension, brakes, final drive, wheel bearings etc.

God help us all if anyone seriously thinks any car can be serviced with a pda.

Electric cars can be cool and fast, even with lead acid batteries, this misinformation though does not help them.

  • make em run on windows then they'll gave someting to fix :D

  • So technically, there's no servicing. No new parts, virtually nothing to break down or fail.

That is why the major automakers refuse to make highway capable long-range EVs. Aftermarket parts and services were half of the profit of American automakers, at least when they were still profitable. You eliminate the roughly $.03-.08/mile maintenance cost of an IC engine with an EV.

  • The guy in this video is f'ing clueless. I can attach my PDA to my car and call it "servicing" to. I guess these propagandists never had a battery fail or an electric motor fail. I see them all the time when repairing golf carts and fork lifts and they are very expensive to service and repair. The most you ever get out of one simple 12v car battery is 7 years tops. Electric car battery packs start at 5000 bucks. Most cars aren't worth that after 5 years thus they are creating throw away cars...

  • 5,000 bucks for a battery pack? Maybe for NiCds.

I'm building an electric car. My battery pack, which will last 40,000 miles or more, is only going to cost ~$2,000.

Many hobbyists use much cheaper flooded lead acid batteries.

Besides, there are people who have over 500,000 miles on the motors in their converted cars(the motors have swapped cars over the decades). No repairs yet, except for brush changes every few years.

  • Pontiac, YOU are f'ing clueless.

  • Pontiac, You're the one whose been fed a load of propaganda. ICEngines suck. Hybrids suck. We need 0% emission EV vehicles now! Big Oil and the Auto industry has BS'ed you into thinking that EV's suck. They are fast and have the charge range we need...Do some research. www.teslamotors.com, or www.acpropulsion.com. Also comparing repairs to forklifts and electric golf carts is ridiculous. They use lead acid batteries which are inferior to Lithium-Ion.

  • Pontiac, you are the idoit, you know crap. This world is all about money, oil company feed you load of crap. We are still using old technolgy for our car engine. And the Federal goverment is getting nice pay check from oil compay to shut them up.

  • so pontiac when my electric car has a 20 year warranty on my battery pack that can charge up in ten minutes what will you say oh and i dont mean when as in the future i mean there are batteries out now that have that ability
