PEOPLE!!!!!!! on windows 7 the usb drive is diffrent you need to download a new usb drive if your infread tower isn't responding

@yoodledoodle14 I have a laptop that has windows xp professional, and it works just fine. But our family also has a newer computer that has windows xp media center edition(a newer version of windows xp). I had to use a patch for it, but now it's working fine. If you get this set and you're having trouble, just contact me, and I'll try to help you out.

@MBUK1000 You cannot get it to work you say? Well, you have come to the right place then. Do you mean that you can't get the software to start? Or that you're having trouble installing the Infrared tower? Please specify which of the two, and if it's that you cant get it to even start up, does it produce an error message? If so, then will you please tell me what this error message says? Please reply to this, and I will try to further assist you.

@HaydenStudios Well I installed the software then opened it and had trouble installing the infrared tower. My computer froze so I was forced to restart it. I then after booting my computer up again tried to open the Mindstorms software and it said "critical error" and didn't let me open it. The battreys in mt RCX are brand new so I cant figure out where the problem is.

@MBUK1000 When you say it said "critical error" did it say only that? Or did it say "A critical error has occurred. You may be running out of memory, or you may need

to reinstall Robotics Invention System 2.0"? I think most likely the latter, to fix this, go to start>run, then type "services.msc", now press enter. A window should pop up, in that window, scroll down until you see two services, one called "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator" and the other named "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)".

@MBUK1000 -Continued- Ensure that they are both running, if one of them is not, right click on it, and select "Start" from the drop down menu. Once both of these processes are running, try to run the software, if this did not work, then exit out of the services window, right click on the shortcut to the RIS software, from the drop-down menu, select "Properties" a window will pop up. in that window, select the "compatiblity" tab and try running it in different compatiblity modes. READ BELOW

You have to program the robot with windows 98,or can you with windows 7?

@SuperSandfurz I don's have windows 7 but heres my theory: I have gotten this software to work perfectly on windows vista as long as you have the usb tower driver and I read on wikipedia that windows 7 is compatible with everything that windows vista was, so I think that this software should work on windows 7, provided that you have the usb tower driver.

@SuperSandfurz works with windows vista 7 32bit not 64 i mtried on both and you will ahve to right clcik it and go to properties then go to compatibilities and run it in compatibility mode as 98.

Yes, I know this is the old one, I got this set long before I got my first NXT set, I know almost as much about the RCX as I do the NXT.
