@Kominex I love the RZA and this film and that doesn't make me wish I was black. Jim Jarmusch made this film and he was white. Stop trying to be Eminem and get with the real world: you're white. Not judging you or anyone else, just saying.
I did grow up during this era. Respect for each other? Are you F'n kidding me? I lived in a TOP 3 crime/poverty/child birth death rate city when this movie came out. I can remember automatic fire every night during hot summers, coming from the Ville as Gangsters were murdering each other over selling drugs that were ruining an entire generation, both the users, and the sellers. Fuck, I still carry a.45 or 9 daily, LEGALLY when going downtown. Because I don't want to be RESPECTED to death.
"It is said that what is called the Spirit of an Age is something to which one cannot return. That this spirit gradually dissipates is due to the world's coming to an end. In the same way, a single year does not have just spring or summer. A single day, too, is the same. For this reason, although one would like to change today's world back to the spirit of one hundred years or more ago, it cannot be done. Thus it is important to make the best out of every generation."

@R3DRobot Except the real Samurai were bullies and murderers. @Kominex Don't get caught up in the romanticism of American entertainment. It's nothing like real life, while black people may seem more cool, in America there are many more intrinsic advantages to being white (not for any race related reasons, but social ones).
@navalverde12 This is much more than just two people showing respect for each other in the street. With Samurai teachings still being found in today's society, this is the depiction of mutually offered profound respect between two deeply wise Samurai who each abide by their bushidō (Samurai codes) in each and every moment of their life. The irony is that; if ordered to by their masters, they would kill the other even in despite of their most profound respect for each other. PEACE
@TheLastZulu i peeped that to... can't stop the ignorance...just recognize it. Because there was nothing " Respectful " about his comment in reference to this video.
@Kominex uh i dont think anyone regrets not being a 'nigga'; i think you mean you regret not being black, which is no reason to be remorseful. you are who you are. your ability to understand transcends your skin color, the proof of such a statement is found in your own comments.
@LamonicBomb Guys please stop responding to my half year old comment. It spams my email hard. It is best soundtrack of all times but please, chose someone else. Good luck.
@Kominex lol...well...be that as it may, your comment still exists TODAY and people can read it TODAY, not a half year ago. people WILL respond to it if they feel some way about it, thats just a given. however i was not trying to assualt you, just stating what it made me think. ya gotta expect people to react to certain things, regardless of how long ago it was.
@1Drummer88 I was honestly let down when I bought this soundtrack -- what makes the whole movie work is that RZA does his thing, and its all instrumental...the whole movie has a constant great beat going, which -- much as I love rap, I gotta say -- in this case, vocals ruin the effect. Far better to keep it simple, a la the movie. (The album is very vocal, heh).
rza has some dope looking gold knuckles in this clip, rza has always had great respect for the martial arts community, I think he likes the honor, respect and discipline involved.
seeing this beautiful part it makes you think RZA in this movie could probably have a movie on his character and it would be somewhat similar to the ghost dog story

@10mac10s What would they do if being patted down by a cop or two?
They'd most likely shoot both of them on site regardless of the situation.
Also the fact that both of them are most likely armed 24/7 given there line of work, If a cop were to pat them down and find's out that they are armed with an loaded unliscensed firearm that's an automatic jail sentance for the both of them right there. Given the fact that they'd be ready to die at any given point i dont see how takping out a cop would
@ryufire12 -be problematic for either of them as going to jail would not be an option for the both of them. if this were to happen there respective boss's would have them taken out for fear of them snitching or the fact that the either of them would not want to spend the rest of there live's in jail where they could have been killed just as easily + the fact that if orderd to they'd probably take a cop out without question so it wouldnt be make much difference in this situation.
@bbakerful Don't pay that any mind i'm black and its easy to see why they would say something like that because people like that (btw I'm not just talking about whites because all races have these people) live on stereotypes when they see something like this they don't understand it so they automatically think sometimes wrong with a person because they do something that is not stereotypical of that race or group.Is it fear?Maybe but I think it is a lack of understanding more so than anything.
"Always see everything" is a reference to book Musashi, it was said to him by Takuan, a priest. It holds far greater meaning than simple P.E.A.C.E. acronym. But it's still pretty cool that they say peace...
i feel blessed to have seen some of his incredible minimalistic powerful film-masterpieces at personally-crisp-times when the scenes and stories resonated with a depthness in me, i so often dont remember exists.
@jacob3432 the beat is part of the score that RZA made for the movie. you can find it on the Japanese edition of the soundtrack album. it's called simply 'RZA's Theme'
Two guys coming from 2 directions wearing two different symbols. Power and Equality, the Sword. Always see everything (all seeing eye), then both leave in different directions. Looks like the Yin and Yang to me, but, I think you are also correct...understanding is a 3 edged sword
@LiquidSolidRaiden I cant decide whether to be angry at your or saying thanks. On one hand you are opening the movie up to a whole new audience; on the other the creators of the movie are not getting the money they deserve. Anyway, awesome film. Peace
I got to meet Forrest many years back, & he commands respect. Such a cool guy too. RZA is a legend. One of the most talented people to ever grace the music biz, & a philosopher to boot.
A geeked hard when I first saw this scene. Meeting of two utter bad asses.
Ha! I hear you. The loosening up of the rules of grammar have afflicted me ever since leaving college. Surprised you've never heard anyone use geek as a verb though. Usually I hear something like "geeked out" or "geeked on _____". To think, I made straight A's in English my entire time in school, then I let things slip when I get to "da internets".
They are speaking Supreme Mathematics...Ghost Dog's character also knows this culture. When he is sitting in the park listening to the thugs in the park, they are rapping using Supreme Mathematics. This movie is mainly about coexisting subcultures within a larger culture.
The thugs, the mobsters, the redneck hunters, the creole little girl, the ice cream man, the guy building the ship on the apartment building, the indian on the roof with the pigeons...abstract subcultures in American culture.
always when i see my brother walking on street i go front of him and say "black man POWER and QUALITY"but they usually say that get to fuck off white motha fucka

@bbakerful fear of blackmen! lol! haha! please dont take yourself serious! i bet bet a old one arm redneck can kick your ass!
bibi12879 1 year ago
@bbakerful Don't pay that any mind i'm black and its easy to see why they would say something like that because people like that (btw I'm not just talking about whites because all races have these people) live on stereotypes when they see something like this they don't understand it so they automatically think sometimes wrong with a person because they do something that is not stereotypical of that race or group.Is it fear?Maybe but I think it is a lack of understanding more so than anything.

This movie is a musical Adventure !

"Always see everything" is a reference to book Musashi, it was said to him by Takuan, a priest. It holds far greater meaning than simple P.E.A.C.E. acronym. But it's still pretty cool that they say peace...

Jim Jarmusch is a genius.
i feel blessed to have seen some of his incredible minimalistic powerful film-masterpieces at personally-crisp-times when the scenes and stories resonated with a depthness in me, i so often dont remember exists.

jacob3432 1 year ago
@jacob3432 the beat is part of the score that RZA made for the movie. you can find it on the Japanese edition of the soundtrack album. it's called simply 'RZA's Theme'
SynysterTruth 1 year ago
@SynysterTruth just found it. cheers

Meeting of two utter bad asses.
skullgame 1 year ago
@skullgame all respects to you, Sir -- I had never seen "geek" used as a verb ... I might have to rethink my entire vocabulary
DoctorPatient 1 year ago
@DoctorPatient
Ha!

HaloedG 1 year ago 5
@HaloedG
The freestyle in the movie isn't Supreme Mathematics. Royal Fam and Wu do use Supreme Mathematics, but that verse is not about Supreme Mathematics.
Peace
