WOW, this little screech owl is still at Audubon!!! I was there 3 weeks ago and there was a little screech owl missing an eye. Of course it's the same one because I went to the one in maitland.
this screech owl needs to be put down....i know as a owl rehaber my self this owl would not be good for edacational purpouses. sorry for the spelling i need my specks. my heart goes out to this sweet little owl.
I don't know what ended up happening with this owl. He was either rehabed and released or euthanized. Believe me, Audubon center for birds of prey know what they are doing.
I am 60 years old. When I was a 8 year old kid before everything was illegal and rehabers became so self rightous, I had a Screech owl pet. He had only one leg. He was an adult when I found him half dead and his black leg wrapped in fishing line.He could not have lasted long in the wild. He lived with me for over 6 years. I feed him canned cat food, crickets and pinky mice. A rehaber would have killed him. I cared for many hurt wild animals when I was a kid helped by a vet friend of my family.
While I partly agree with you (some are self-righteous), a lot of people (kids particularly) don't know what they're doing when it comes to certain animals and can end up doing more harm than good. I'm glad you knew what you were doing and were able to save animals, but you had the aid of a vet friend. Most people don't and therefor should take a wounded animal to someone who knows what they're doing.
wow... and I was JUST thinking how cute an owl would be if he only had one eye... and then i stumbled upon this video.. i wish i lived in the country so i could see these beautiful creatures... although i saw a hawk in the park (in brooklyn) the other morning which was cool but super bad luck!
It's OK, falconers often keep birds like that. Just as long as they are let off the leash when they are put back in their pen or aviary and left to fly around, it's OK.

Poor Wol, yes. Sad to see birds like this but at least he was rescued, he probably would have died left to fend for himself in the wild. Good to see him so healthy, a lot of bird sanctuaries in this country aren't worthy of the name but you can't go far wrong with the Audubon Society.
I could believe that. Owls like crows but crows don't return the compliment. Maybe because Wols like me nick their YouTube accounts when they're asleep (maviscrow is my new fiancee) but never mind...

These birds often end up road kill. I've found two in the same place while biking through the winter. The are beautiful animals.
