Perhaps bizarrely, the His Dark Materials trilogy replaced the Narnia Chronicles in my head and heart as my all time favourite read. The medium of movie was always going to be more limited in sweep and scope, nonetheless I liked it; well cast and performed, good visual effects too, gutted they've not finished the trilogy. I have a double connection to this video; 1) I'm in the film, I was an extra playing a 'Nordic 'Gyptian'; 2) I used to know Paddy Bush, Kate's big brother, many years ago.

As for theological debate, Phillip Pullmans "His Dark Materials" brings together many diverse theories and beliefs. Each may be as valid as another. My own personal thoughts have always been to dismiss preconception, dismiss the deep religious indoctrination that is forced upon us all, usually by parents and teachers who have themselves been indoctrinated. Open your minds, be open to new ideas. Be open minded and discover new worlds :-)

I love this song - i have read both the book and watched the movie. I agree with Bearingz, i enjoy both of them too. But a thing the book dosent have is the music. After ive seen this movie twice or so i just couldt get it out of my head. And when it finaly was gone it could come back some weeks or months after. As one who loves the books, this film was a massive disappointment. It is confusing, and ends on a bizarre note. One of the key elements of the books is that the first one is in a single universe, the second book is in "our" world, Lyra's world and a third one called Cittagazze, and the final book sprawls over many universes. The inluence of the church in the USA spiked the story and the film.

I suggest that an international group of TV companies including the BBC make an epic production.

Went to see this movie a few years ago and was rather disappointed, but pleasantly surprised when the movie ended and the credits started rolling and what do you know, Kate Bush was singing the title track! and a very good track it is, as epistemic1 mentioned, vintage Kate! her voice is as good as ever and if she does actually release new material later this year I hope it will be as pleasant as this.

I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel

I have read the books, but thought the movie was excellent, just seem to have come out at the wrong time, competing with other big moves. I hope one day they continue the series. :/ I see the book and movie as two serperate entities (as they are completely different art forms) and find I enjoy both but for different reasons. :) ... of course I prefer the books, though. :P
