most receivers in the nfl are usually black because black receivers tend to run faster and speed is coveted, somewhat overated at times(ie , reggie bush). but speed is important. there are fast white receivers, welker, stokley, etc, but its not as common as other black receivers.

Big oversight here. The position is called RECEIVER- it means receiving passes. Not sprinter, blocker, combine scorer-RECEIVER! If you had everything you owned bet on 1 game and it all came down to the last play where you needed a reception to win the game/bet. The ball is in the air and you can choose ANYBODY that has ever played to be on the other end of that pass. A smart person would want the best hands and the most clutch player they could find. I would choose Fred Biletnikoff every time.
I saw them both pay live and on TV for years. Can't agree with you. Maynard was good but there were many I'd put in front of him from that era. Biletnikoff was a textbook, fundamentally perfect, pass catching machine.
Biletnikoff played OVER half of his pro career and ALL of his college games without stickum.

Using stickum was a high upkeep proposition. Minutes after application it became slick and useless requiring constant reapplication throughout the game. The main reason it was banned was that one catch destroyed the QB's ability to grip the ball and the refs kept running out of new balls.
3rd fault: It was far less an advantage to catching than today's gloves.

I used to play wide reciever and cornerback. I felt I could have played pro but was highly discriminated against. I never met anyone that could cover me or burn me and I came from an area in california that is a breeding ground for atheletes. Ask anyone who played against me in my prime and I could beat double & triple coverage. I earned a lot of nicknames for sure. I'm big now but in my prime I was 6'0 195 and a speed burner. Nobody could tackle me solo either because of my leg power.

most receivers in the nfl are usually black because black receivers tend to run faster and speed is coveted, somewhat overated at times(ie , reggie bush). but speed is important. there are fast white receivers, welker, stokley, etc, but its not as common as other black receivers.

The best white receiver is Steve Largent, IMO.
My favorite white receivers are Largent, Ricky Proehl (1990-2006), Wayne Chrebet (1995-2005), Joe Jurevicius (1998-2007),and Wes Welker (2003-ongoing).

Big oversight here. The position is called RECEIVER- it means receiving passes. Not sprinter, blocker, combine scorer-RECEIVER! If you had everything you owned bet on 1 game and it all came down to the last play where you needed a reception to win the game/bet. The ball is in the air and you can choose ANYBODY that has ever played to be on the other end of that pass. A smart person would want the best hands and the most clutch player they could find. I would choose Fred Biletnikoff every time.

First fault in your argument:
Biletnikoff played OVER half of his pro career and ALL of his college games without stickum.
2nd fault:
Using stickum was a high upkeep proposition. Minutes after application it became slick and useless requiring constant reapplication throughout the game. The main reason it was banned was that one catch destroyed the QB's ability to grip the ball and the refs kept running out of new balls.
3rd fault: It was far less an advantage to catching than today's gloves.

I used to play wide reciever and cornerback. I felt I could have played pro but was highly discriminated against. I never met anyone that could cover me or burn me and I came from an area in california that is a breeding ground for atheletes. Ask anyone who played against me in my prime and I could beat double & triple coverage. I earned a lot of nicknames for sure. I'm big now but in my prime I was 6'0 195 and a speed burner. Nobody could tackle me solo either because of my leg power.

I think alot of good white guys don't become WRs because if you're a good white player "skill-wise" everyone wants you to play QB. It's like if a white player has any skill he must be a QB, LB or lineman. If they don't become a QB or LB/ OL they are seen as failures. Alot of good white guys who suck at QB would be great WRs but they are not "steered" into the WR or secondary positons.

Guys, speed isn't everything when it comes to being a good receiver. It definitely helps stretching the field but being a great route runner is on top of the priority list. I played Arena with Travis McGriff, he is one of the best route runners I have ever seen.
