Honestly, I gave up trying to put together a guitar I was satisfied with and found this and said, "Could there be a better guitar for me?" I've used it in the studio and at gigs and people always compliment me on the tone I'm getting. I don't have to keep looking if it's doing it's job right?
I do like the new Fender Strat Special that's much cheaper but for now I've got what I need in this instrument.
you can really tell the difference between this and other strats, its sounds ten steps above the rest when you crank your pro junior and play it, nice playing you deserve that beast
I mean no disrespect, but is it me or John doesn't try as hard on demonstrating stratocaster than telecaster. I mean I was going to buy a strat, but after seeing Mexican made telecaster review, I totally change my mind, because tele displays more character than strato regardless of versatility.
I been playing an acoustic guitar for about a year on and off. I know 9 or 10 songs and I'll like to buy my first electric guitar. Could you, John, please recommend something for me? I would really appreciate it very much! Thanks!
Pick up different guitars that are in your budget. Play instruments but don't just order one that someone says is good. You make the choice after playing it. Thanks for your interest.
@johnhguitar I did just that and I found out that the Telecaster was more like calling out to me. So I bought a Mexican telecaster, used but it sounds great in my opinion. I will saved for an American later in the future. I can actually tell the difference between American and Mexican made. Thanks Again John!
Fender Squier Classic Vibe-there are two models: 50's & 60's: while they are a 'cheaper option' they are meant to be really good; based on the Strat models from both decades-thought may be able to get hold of them to give them a road test...no worries if not..enjoy the reviews.
I have played them all (50s Strat 60s Strat and 50s Tele), haven't tried the basses yet, they're great guitars and have nice vintage sounding Alnico 2 and 5 pickups. The things I don't like are small tremolo blocks, plastic nut, and it's a 3 peice body instead of one solid peice. I think they are quite a bit better from the factory than the a Mexican Fender, and sound better than the Ceramic magnets thee Mexican Fender.
Thanks for your impressions, I imagine an upgrade job with the tremolo block would fix that up...I just need to know if you could realistically gig with them?
Great Review, I would agree that it sounds pretty thin especially with the pickup switch on the neck pickup. Of course, we don't know how the amp is set up. But if you want something that is made like an old version, here you go.
even as a guy who doesn't really like the fender sound, most sound pretty decent just not my style. but this one doesn't really sound very good to me im afraid, seems thin.
Great video. I was just wondering what the difference in that guitar and an American Deluxe is. I looked up the specs and other than the distressing of the body and some of the hardware, they seem rather similar. Are they different enough, and is that one superior enough to warrant the extra thousands that it cost? Thanks for the awesome reviews.
hey man, nice work on finding a strat you love! I found my killer strat a while back too. 50th Anniversary Edition Deluxe Strat. Killer guitar man! all the best! :)
hey john, one guitar question real quick. I want a Squier to play some blues and I can spend about 300$ which one would you recommend? the tele or the strat? and what should I do with each one to make it sound better?
You should get a used mexican standard either the strat or the tele. Just play both and see which tone you like better. Look at which bands use which guitars. Personally I like the strat better.
John, I'm not a pro but, is it the sound or the way it feels in your hands that makes the price right. Consider that it is a 50's reissue. (or both)?

John, what string brand and gauge do you use on your guitars?
guran94 1 year ago
Usually I use .10 gauge on the solid body electrics. With my jazz guitar I use .13 flatwounds.

Hi John,
any chance of doing a Squire vibe review,
I'm thinking of getting one-looks like a good Axe, but not 100% decided yet?
