@Truthteacher2007 ~ AMEN! It's self acceptance and self love that tears down the walls in our minds that someone/anyone is better than we are. I was blessed to not be interested in television as a kid because I was not exposed to all the rhetoric that plagues most women and still divides us into categories of colors like a box of crayons (black, brown, yellow, high yellow, red, etc.) I just viewed a RECENT vid on YT exposing this hated against our own yet again. O_o
@jadazzboogie So true. Its only now that I'm realizing how brain washed we are by the media and how important it is to be vigilent about what we see and hear. I think all people of color ESPECIALLY of African descent need to teach our children from an early age to be AWARE of the messages they receive around them. God knows they're going to get enough just from the other people and friends around them. They need to be taught how to be critical thinkers.
Awesome video!! Thanks for the responses. I really appreciate what you said about options! We have OPTIONS now! I hope more people will recognize this and stop the madness. I'm sharing these vids!!
@RdclBlkFmnst You really inspired me. I especially liked the point you made about the way some people are using natural hair to create divisions. We as humans have a tendency to turn things into religions and then feel the need to go off and "convert the heathens". All that happens is you turn people off and make them hostile. No one likes being preached at or pressured. I hope you'll continue making videos and sharing with the community at large.
Great vid loved the cherry bush comment because it's so true! I never asked for a relaxer but my mom tired of pressing my hair, gave me one and then I started relaxing my own hair because it was what I was used to. When I cut my hair in 2000 it was one of the most liberating experiences in my life. Yes we have a lot more to talk about but so many people have begun the healing process by accepting their hair and then working on the other deficiencies, I'm excited that we are talking about it!
@jadazzboogie Me too. I think we are doing something very important. In the 60's and 70's we were in the angry militant stage. We wore our fros to say F you to the white man. Now we've moved past that to a place of really looking inside and healing. I think on many levels just seeing isiters embracing themselves, without any rehtoric, slogans or preaching has been very healing.God knows as a man its been very healing for me to see my sisters showing the world that we are truely beautifull as is
I know for me going natural has opened my eyes to a lot of things namely myself. Yes, it's true. We have a lot of things that can take us away from the things we need to focus on in our lives. But, this "natural" hair movement or community has been a tool in addressing some of the issues we have with ourselves. I remember someone telling me that my lips were in style. It came to mind when you mention how natural hair is the "in" thing now. That stabs me right in the heart to hear that.
@zheahra You are so right. All these issues are connected, they're not isolated. Fir so many people going natural has lead to taking better care of their health emotional state social awareness sprituality. The hair opens a gate to a truely holistic way of life. Of course that's not the case with everybody, but we don't need everybody to make the world a better place. All we need is enough people. Most people were not involved in the civil rights struggle but "enough" were.Look how far we've come
