文字数は、控え目に書くからいいですけど、英語大文字とかを書い­たときに投稿できないことがありますよね。多分、へんなリンクと­かの誘導を防ぐためなのかなと思ってるんですけど

あの法則ってどうなってるんでしょう。

Haha, I've nagged one of them about it a few times now (every time I see him. The response is always "yeah, yeah, we know, we know..."

The fact is that the powers that be do know about this issue, so I can only guess that it is either judged a low priority, or the hassle fixing it isn't considered to be worth the inconvenience. James had some ideas why it might be impossible, and I guess I can understand why YT wouldn't want to highlight this by saying it is impossible to fix directly.

I have gotten used to it more or less but it took a lot of time - I think the setup is nowhere near as naturally intuitive as the old setup was - granted you can do a lot more now, but I never had to search through help to figure things out before. . Still, now I get it, I do like how the player itself works. That's why I only really feel like asking for more page customization features.

I'm a fan of Google also, I wish I could see them get even more stuck in to polishing up these old YT bugs

Leoさん、on the channel page there is still a 以前のチャンネルデザインに戻す button you can click, although I don't know how much longer it will stay there.

Also, yes, being a partner gives autoplay, extra banners, and the opportunity to earn revenue off vids (I only use autoplay and banners).

YouTube's JavaScript comment handler is counting Japanese characters incorrectly because it's counting bytes instead of characters. It chokes on double-byte Japanese encodings. YouTube was originally created with only ASCII in mind.

Something I thought of now that didn't occur to me when I made the Japanese video reply. (Will subtitle it after I get home tonight. Shouldn't be hard, I have the script still.) Maybe Youtube's whole backend can only handle 500 bytes per comment anyways.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has noticed this and has been frustrated by the 字数バグ. Personally, I'd like the limit to be at least quadrupled. Or make the limit imposition an option decided by the poster the same way that comments can be disabled completely. Personally, for the people that I have as friends, I wouldn't mind if there was no limit for them.

Yes, I know, but then again, that's why we have programmers, yes? To fix these things. 字数 doesn't have anything to do with bytes. If they wanted to limit the number of bytes, then that's what they should say. Twitter has successfully dealt with this problem.

I guess the reason that I'm [mad] frustrated with this is that surely someone should have noticed this by now. I mean, YouTube isn't exactly new to Japan and other Asian countries.

I totally agree - even if there is a technical reason for it, it isn't the kind of problem you often run into nowadays - maybe 5 years ago... And certainly not on a site backed by Google.

Actually, I really don't see any point in restricting the character count for comments! Not only storage is terribly cheap now, but also I have to stress out that COMMENTS are also CONTENT. And it so happens that youtube is all about content, and getting people to share their thoughts and add value to the videos...

I kinda appreciate how they force you to rationalize your comments, but I quite agree - I don't really see what the real downsides of increasing such a limit would be. It hardly has anything to do with spamming, which is tightly controlled and has to do with the number of times comments are made.

I think it would be good if youtube allowed even more customizing of your own channel, since people really do like having choice but personally i'm ok with the new layout, it did bug me at first but you get used to it. Haha, agreed. The design doesn't really bug me at all, but I quite agree, it seems odd when they have increased customization overall that they would remove some of the features of the Channel Page that people consider to be most important. I don't see why there should be any issue allowing them back.

I totally agree with the gripe about not be able to show off one's favorite Favorites and Uploads on the new channel design.

Another gripe is that because of the new design we able to see fewer of our subscribers. I have no way of knowing the names of most of the people who are subscribed to my channeireview channel.

There are online sites like J-OS and EduFire that offer online Japanese lessons with proper tutors who provide materials that seem like a good idea. Other than that, I do my best to make mine useful for studying with bilingual subtitles. I guess if you scratch around you can find more. Ganbatte!

The comment bug is a real pain - might just be sloppy treatment of unicode. Regardless, there's really no excuse for it on a site that aims at an international audience.

I personally don't have a problem with the new layout, aside from what you mentioned. I understand youtube would want to update the look, and make it universal. I do miss being able to showcase my videos to show new subscribers what I'm about in a nut shell. I decided to make a playlist to fill this void, but it's not the same.

The Japanese character limit seems silly, though not a personal problem yet, and I also agree it should be corrected.

I don't really see why they needed to take the option to customize those modules away - I think it provoked a lot of needless aggro.

You should try out the Japanese comment thing - it is a pain not knowing how many characters you can use, but if you could use all 500, Japanese would suddenly be better than English to use.

I haven't noticed the comment bug.

Although a lot of times my comment just don't appear, they're just gone and I have to re-type it again.

As for the design, I like it more now than before. But I still don't like the videos being more hidden away than normal. And If you want to comment (or see comments), you have to go to the next page instead of on the page itself.

Apparently it happens with all 2-byte fonts like Chinese, Korean and Japanese. It's been there for a while so hopefully they will fix it soon.
