I guess the great thing about travelling on this route in 2008 is that unlike the Korean Airlines flight that was shot down in the eighties, the Russians were unlikely to shoot you down which is a comforting thought.

Nice! Was this coach class? if so, how was the service for a United international flight on the 777?

Yes this was coach class! The service for UA was decent...you get your meal, movies etc. Don't know about space because I get Economy plus seating, which is more legroom.
