Like to add that this cut allows the drums to shine a bit more than the production on their other material. He isn't bad, that drummer. But it seems the producer of their albums didn't like him that much!
About the juxtaposition of liveliness and hopelessness: the trick is to live through it!
This music from the early 90s recalls to me a time in my life when everything was both full of life and yet ultimately, in many ways, hopeless. The Gin Blossoms just seemed to have my number on that feeling. This video catches the theme: the band is making beautiful music while the roof is falling in. That was my world circa 1993-1995.
@lebarosky I signed in just to tell you i know exactly what you mean...full of life/dreams and hopelessness......i never really thought of it like that but that is the feeling. When i feel like that now i end up back here.Seems like more so in the fall.It kinda feels good to know that someone else knows that same, what has always been...an unexplainable feeling.
I signed in just to say i know exactly how you feel i just never knew how to put it into words.Full of life/dreams and hopelessness all at the same time.Whenever i feel that way i find myself here....seems like its more so in the fall.It feels kinda good to know that there is someone else who knows, what had been, an unexplainable feeling.

i remember this CD playing in the car over and over when I was little, reminds me of summer. recently found the album again and re-fell in love with it
Doug Hopkins did not write this song so the comment about suicide is inaccurate.I have never seen this video.I realize that the Gin Blossoms are back but I wish they had been together for at least a few more albums after Congragulations. So many bands that shouldn't stay together way too long. These guys were in their prime when they broke up.There is not much melodic rock on the radio today
Ya know, to me this song has a totally different meaning - kind of the beauty of great songs, you can take them and make them into what you need. Definitely a favorite of mine for many many years now..
probably one of my fav songs of theirs. another great 90s band forgotten by most. so excited they are playing at the dogwood festival next weekend here in NC!
WHY DO U MISS THEM? There still touring and making albums! They release dMajor lodge victory last year, man! his is what Robin was talking about, they were gone too long noe everyones forgot about them.
@spdrpig Alot of people (Like me) Don't listen to anything after 1996 from thease guys. While the songs aren't bad after '96 I can't really say they are as good in my personal opinion. Thats just me but you have to think so many people like their old stuff if they are still touring they should have enough of a fan base to still be popular. That being said name 1 song that has been mainstream from them after '96. I can't.
Ahh, the REAL Gin Blossoms, with Doug.

My very fav Gin Blossoms song...they so didn't receive the credit they deserved, along with Toad The Wet Sprocket. Good memories from the 90's.
