When I watch fights like this from the 70's, 80's, then I look at the UFC, and with all due respect to the athletes and fans alike, MMA does not even come close to the talent, expertise, science, and psychology of a good boxing match. This stuff is INCREDIBLE, the likes of which we will probably never see again.
si estan en lo sierto en pensar que Arguello y Sanchez fueron los mejores plumas. Quien ganaria entre ellos dos es otro argumento, en mi opinion Arguello pudiera definir la pelea con un solo golpe. Pero Sanchez tenia mejor movimiento lateral, de pierna y cintura.
Alexis Arguello y Salvador Sanchez ambos son orgullo latinoamericano, cuando en el boxeo era durisímo obtener un titulo mundial (no como el circo de apuestas, entidades de papel, peleas arregladas y campeones que son pura publicidad), ellos llevaron a nuestros países a lo más alto. Por mi edad (30) nunca vi a Sanchez, si a Arguello de quien muy pequeñito recuerdo sus 2 pedreras contra Aaron Pryor, las he visto varias veces y no entiendo como Pryor pudo resistir esos golpes para luego ganar.
para hablar de boxeo se necesita dejar aun lado la pasion y ser objetivos decir que sanchez venceria a arguello son solo suposiciones lo mismo de que arguello venceria a sanchez,asi como que sanchez solo vencio a un grande como gomez es otro error. en ese tiempo se dieron ,los mejores plumas de la epoca y las 9 defensas de sanchez fue ante los mejores 3 invictos gomez,nelson, y ford,castillo solo una derrota ante arguello,danny lopez 2 veces,laporte otro campeon,castañon campeon europeo

El Arguello que yo recuerdo de tantas peleas no creo que hubiera rehuido ningun combate. Sanchez fue un gran campeon, pero el hecho de haber muerto tragicamente y de haber derrotado al boxeador mas odiado por los mexicanos (Wilfredo Gomez) lleva a muchos mexicanos a exagerar sus cualidades y crear leyendas que muchas veces no son ciertas. Es absurdo ponerse hacer comparaciones, simplemente cada quien fue el mejor en su tiempo, pero la verdad en esos tiempo el deporte del boxeo era mucho mas rudo y exigente, las categorias eran mas distanciadas en pesos, y pelear 15 roouds y poder noquear en el ultimo roud eso es una muestra d muchas cosas. I believe Arguello could have knocked out Pacquiao because, even though Alexis was slower, on the other side, the pacman is too open and exposed to heavy body blows, and it is exactly here where the explosive thin was always fulminating and lethal, with one solo punch to terminate the bout at any time. pacquiao would have lost to pryor AND arguello. pac and pryor are not even close. Pac attacks sporadically he is not a constant offensive machine like pryor, he does not have the best defense, and would have got hit all day by pryor a natural jr.welterweight. as for vs. arguello arguello hit 2 hard for pac, was very conditioned, and had a great chin, also better technique and all @ ability, he had 2 much class for pac no offense. it would have been a stopage with either fighter.

A prime Arguello had little problem with fast fighters. He was pretty quick for the early part of his time at lightweight, & had extraordinary timing and anticipation. Pound for pound, one of the greatest punchers in history. Pacman MAY end up in that echelon after a few more epics - but as good as he is, he would have been picked apart and KO'd by Arguello after a competitive fight, based on what we know now. And it would have been very entertaining.

I concur. I rate Arguello as one of the best pound per pound boxers of all times for his ability to destroy the opponent upstairs and downstairs. He was my favorite boxer of all times.
