  • ugh they aint lie n when they say they are hard to keep up with mine is a wild girl who loves to get on trail and NOT stop

  • Wow. No mention of slobber able to hit a 12 foot ceiling? Fail.

We had towels laying around the house to try to pre-empt what we could.

  • wew

  • Lol fail. I thought this was a music video for some song by Bloodhound Gang.

  • My boxer got loose and I think one looks like a blookhound mix. Thank you for posting this. I wanted to see and know more about the breed. I really needed to know that they are not porch dogs.

  • i want a dog that will follow a smell, but what keeps them from following it when you dont want them to and they run away following it?

  • @crf100person A leash.

  • @williejenkins666 but it would never be in a pen if it was my dog, so it could follow a deer or something when im not even with it

  • @crf100person Then a bloodhound isn't for you. Those dogs naturally wander.

Type -> prone to wander list <- in google and you'll see the breeds that tend to follow themselves rather than be obedient in regards to wandering.

The only thing that really keeps these dogs in would be a fence or leash. These dogs have gotten away from their masters on searches for criminals as well. Once they reach a criminal, they are typically non-aggressive toward them...it is just an entertaining game.

  • Sniffing is what bloodhounds do when they're trained as puppies.

  • Woah...that's the Disney Channel narrator!

  • @ispinintights It sure is. That is Cam Clarke.

  • I have a 4 month old bloodhound named Harvey. He is a sweetheart and incredibly intelligent...Anybody have any suggestions on training him? I understand that he will never be as obedient as his Golden Retriever sister. Any help would be great.

  • @DzsTrakr I'm scared of dogs. NOT U! Please don't bring them without my permission. How long did U have him?

  • @DzsTrakr Training a bloodhound is like trying to train a liberal to not be insane. Good luck.

They will never be obedient. You'll just have to deal with the consequences of their behavior. You can try and use the old coins-in-a-can trick to scare them from jumping on ledges and shaking it and/or tossing it near the dog (not at it) when it is doing something no good.

  • We have two bloodhounds with opposite personalities! XD One is as mellow as a sloth and loves to drool. The other's hyper and loves to play. But I love'em both =3

  • made me think of ladybird

  • my male labrador, Copper, gets 0 treats for obedience :(

but my female labrador, Lola gets 4 treats for obedience :), i dont know why they are so different.

  • R.I.P. Emma and Romeo...

  • I have a bloodhound :) OMG so adorable :)

  • A lot of people/vets don't know this but a lot of the time hip dysplasia is actually scurvy! My grandpa discovered this years ago from looking at his dog, who had it, physical signs and discovered that it was actually just a Vitamin C deficiency. He started her on half a 500mg tablet (so 250mg) every other day and it went away. How much you give your dog really depends on it's size. I have a dog and I give her a tablet every other day to stave it off. Her bladder crystals went away too

  • On the obedience level: All Hounds get "one treat"! Start training ASAP!

  • we've had a couple of hounds. absolutely lovely dogs.

  • bloodhound should get 5 stars for companionship!

  • They forgot that the Bloodhound is a "massive brute who sought his quarry for the sole purpose, as his name indicated, of destroying it.' (as written in Dogs and People by George and Helen Papashvily in reference to what happened after Uncle Tom's Cabin.)

It's hard to believe that at one time people thought these dogs evil, but I think it's even worse that they're still pointing fingers at dogs and claiming they're the villains of the world.

  • @FallingandRunning Well IMO thats because of the Sleuth Hound, a heavier + more aggressive mastiff version of the breed which were at some points in history confused.

  • my bloodhound Harley howls ONLY at harley davidson motorcycles no others thats where his name is from

  • @iluvzanimals7

really??? i would love to hear that dog bark ^^

  • @paulpateno123 sure ill try to get it on video some time for u =D

  • 0:32

nothin like duke from the hillbillies

my hound can run forever and seems to never get tired lol

  • We have an 11 month old Blood Hound and, a mature Newfoundland Dog.

When people ask what their names are we always say; search & rescue of course.

    Both are wonderful dogs

  • The French name of theese dogs is Saint-Hubert (from thehunters' patron saint)

  • @searchlight22 cool story

  • @searchlight22 Is it possible for bloodhounds to get used to smells like we do?

Well, they have differently designed senses of smell, ours is too primitive I'd say.

  • @searchlight22 I have a newfie I love him, i want a blood hound soooooo bad

  • my bloodhound, jocey, is retarded. She manages to put the tv on every night and wakes us up. it's always some horror film

  • mines named waldo! hes so cute!

  • me n my bloodhound Joe watch King of the Hill together every night!

  • Of course they have energy. They are a hunting dog.. capable of tracking relentlessly.

  • is very very good dog ,his especial dog ,i have one

  • I have an awesome 5 month old Bloodhound Black and Tan female. They are right about them being stubborn but after being consistent it pays off. They don't forget what they learn.

  • mine were just breedin today so we might get puppies our male has prostate cancer so he might have to get nudered i feel so sorry for him :'(

  • where are you ill buy a pup

  • who is thumbing all comments down?

  • I love my Bloodhound Bo Duke i would not have any other breed.

BEWARE they get slobber on everything from clothes, couches, beds, walls and even the ceiling.

  • i have one as a tracker named ruby. she'ss really sweet, and we might get another one! i love bloodhuonds

  • We recently obtained a female bloodhound for our k9 police department in Costa Rica, Here is not a common dog, its called Gea and is eight months old and starting its training for hidden suspects search in the Department of the Municipal Police of Belén. I love the dog, is a 100% searcher with a gold nose!!!!

  • i have a bloodhound hes real cute!! his names waldo!

  • comment thumbs up because you proved my point idiots are even on the animal planet channel, and you won me $50. thanks 12 year old

  • No problem, if you ever need any more favors, just ask. I wold be happy to oblige. And how did I win you 50 clams??

  • bet that i could start a flame war on animal planet.

  • I made the same "mistake" in getting my Sadie Jane...she's not the greatest "family dog" but I love her very much. She's had some hip problems but taking some weight off her helped a lot. I "shifted my thinking" too. She was a "puppy" for just a minute. I've had her for seven years now. High maintainece but well worth it. Her nose gets in gear and her brain goes out the window. I wish I'd made her more of a working dog but she's just a pet...as I said, I love her very much though.

  • If I had a Bloodhound I'd name him Jimmy Pop.

  • They drool like crazy and dont listen, other than that its an ok dog.

  • bloodhounds are the cutest puppies <3 once you go bloodhound you never go back.

  • totally wrong i wouldnt do it again... i dont get me wrong i love my dog, but this breed isn't that great for a pet, they need to have something to be doing constantly or they get mischeivious, and will never be the dog that can be in the house for thanksgiving, or any dinner for that matter.

  • I have a bloodhound and he's a great dog. What this video says about this breed's personality is very true! They are clowns in big baggy suits.

  • Amazing scent ability. :) I love this breed.

  • wow is that true X. I did'nt know that. A lot of dog food companies are instilling grains and dairy into their foods to I am sure to save on costs. nice to know the next time I get a big dog. I knew bloodhounds had the best nose, but I did'nt think they got 140 pounds, samn, I was thinking 90-100 or a little more, but 140 is only 30 pounds less than me,lol.

  • TEH EARS! TeH EARSS!!!1

  • u write THE wrong

  • You write "you" wrong. :)

  • Feeding RAW diets is best for large breeds. No grains and no dairy.

  • i love bloodshounds i have 2 one is all red and one is black and tan. and they are so good with kids my kids play all day with them

  • To Avoid Bloating Issue:

    (1):  Serve meals a few feet off the ground;

(2): Opt for surgery -Can get stomach stapled to wall (not too pricey and well worth it) *Recommendation for all large breeds

  • Elevated food and water bowls are unnatural and only cause problems, not cure them.

  • Are you kidding me? Have you ever talked to a vet or anyone with any large breed experience? When large breeds eat their meals out of bowls level with the ground, their risk of bloating increases dramatically. Do a quick google search and you will see the problems feeding from ground level causes. I hope you don't own a large breed dog, for its sake.

  • Neck and joint problems too.

The risks are also greater in older dogs.

  • why would you put your dog though an unnesasary surgery?

    wow nuff said

ps i dont give a shit about spelling

  • It's preventive surgery that can be done easily during spaying or neutering. The purpose is to prevent a life threatening issue that commonly kills large breed dogs during the prime of their life. It is not an extensive process that is risky or harmful to the dog. (Quite the contrary) Regardless, I am trying to give accurate, helpful advice to serious large breed owners who care about their pet. Educate yourself before you end up looking like an ass.

  • hahaha who's the dum(b )fuck? The person who checks youtube every day to see if anybody cares about their useless posts and can't spell the word dumb fuck (got to love irony), or the person who has much more useful things to do with their time? I'm just giving a suggestion that worked for me and many other Bloodhound owners. Take it or leave it. If you don't agree then keep it to your FUCKING self. (Why do certain people always have to turn anything good into something nasty?)

  • Hey, Pluto!!!

  • ha ha prelepi su!

  • Luka needs a DIET. wink wink

  • Luca was an athlete most of her life, I followed her for over a thousand miles. She got jaw cancer that pushed her right eye painfully into her head. We worked SAR which was no fun, every case turned into a criminal case. We switched to Pet SAR and that was rewarding. Chad

  • Thank you for your help chad and showing us your beautiful luca =D

  • a friend has one and we play hide and go seek of it and he always foinds us! He'll attack me with kisses when he finds me

  • how do you play hide and seek with him doesn't he follow you right from the start. How do you get him to stay still while you go hide?

  • Well, #1, most of the time someone else is playing too, and will have something with your scent on it and give it to the hound. They take them on a leash to find you. You need 2 ppl and a hound. Without another person, the hound is likely to trail something else.

  • you tell him to stay?

he must be a trained dog

    duh
