  • What programme you use to do the animaton, i have google sketchp, but i only do animation moving the camera?

  • So if its the fragments disguised, are the fragment spapes always the same... did you make a number of jagged parts make up a rectangle? Thanks for the reply... For the love of God tell me a way to reset the sandbox 'from scratch' tool. It keeps crashing SU cos it seems to be stuck on a ridiculously hi setting..here's hoping you might make some sense out of this for me..

  • yes. Its not a piece of glass, but a set of pre-defined fragments, pretending to be 1 piece. I discribed how i made it in one of the first comments. Unfortunatly, i havent used google sketchup for 2 years :p so, im afraid i cant help u with ur sandbox problem. (re-install?) But remember, as always: Google is your best friend XD

  • That's a great Sketchy example... Do you have to map the glass up to shatter or is it an assigned behavior? sorry, I'm not too familiar with SP yet.. It would be cool to see it a little slower and closer, not a criticism, I'd just love to see it that way...

    Would the same glass behave in the same way if you were to drop 'the ball' on it from a higher position?

  • Actualy there never was a real piece of glass. Just the fragments, pretending to be 1 piece of glass.

    The behaviour was live calculated by the SketchyPhysics plugin. The video is a screencapture of that.

    So yes, on other circumstances, the fragments would fall differently, still aboeying the laws of physics tho.

  • I think I know how to do it. I haven't tried it yet so correct me if im wrong. If you take a simple rectangle and split it into lots of little irregular shapes and extrude all of them to a height of roughly 0.25 inches, then make all of them groups, then set their settings to frozen. This way, they wont move until something hits it. As for getting rid of all the lines im not sure...

  • Correct, just create all the little glass pieces as individual groups and freeze them. You can hide the lines through the sketchup display settings. Good luck!

  • After you made the little glass fragments, select them all, rightclick, state and then click on 'frozen'. This will make them stay frozen, until touched by an object.

  • u start with a plane. then u free-draw the pieces of glass on the plane. This gives u a 2D glass window which u want to breeak. then u copy the pieces one by one outside the plane, and then u extract them, select the piece u just made and create a group. If u do this with all the 2D pieces of glass, and put then right back together again, ull end uo with a breakable window. (U can also create just a part of the windows and copy that next to each other, to create a bigger window. Good luck!

  • Calm down, ive never denied that i used a plugin. But i will deny that i used a plugin to create each piece of glass. I manualy made every piece of glass, and then i used the pluging to animate them as they were objects.

    And again, calm down, come with arguements next time if u accuse someone of something.

    Google Sketchup has an extract-function. (its in the extended toolbox view)

    With this you can (for example) click on a square surface and pull it out, creating a box or brick-like shape.

  • @pcaapje the push/pull tool? thats the only thing i can find that matches your description. sorry i suck at sketchup. themost advanced tool i understand is the follow me tool.

  • @BrObiWanKenobi365 Yeah, my bad, the push/pull tool. (I havent used Sketchup in a few years, im a Maya user atm :p) But let me know if you have any other issues.

  • @pcaapje thanks a TON!!!! I made a few good shattering glass things with small squares instead of jagged pieces, just cuz its quicker. Quick question though. Can i make a tutorial and post it as a video response? i wont start making it until i get your okay.

  • @pcaapje omg i made the tut and it looked great on windows media player but then i was putting the finishing touches on windows movie maker and the quality was terrible!!!!!!!!!!!! srry i cant post shoddy work. you'll have to find someone else to make the tut

  • Thanks for the great video! Breaking glass technique is interesting. Maybe one day glass can be able to be broken without all the work you had to go through, OK for one peice, but alot of work if multiple sizes are required. thanks again!

  • Cool! how did u get the plank to elevate itself up?

  • I made 2 bars under the plank. The left bar was attatched to nothing, (only to explain why the plank fell in the story), but the right one acted like a hinge for the plank. The weigt of the plank on the left side of the bar was bigger than the weigt of the right side of the plank + the ball itself, what made the plank turn around the hinge on the right side, which resulted in the ball rolling down.

  • It's cool how you made the glass break.

  • I made all the little pieces of glass seperately, and froze them until the ball touched them. with the sketchyphysics-plugin I then played the scene and recorded it with camtasia Studio 4
