I miss flying Buffalo Mtn. OK; I miss Mel Hair; I miss the feeling and excitement of waking up early in the morning and waiting for the sun to start baking the mountain; I miss the friends found on top of that mountain; I miss flying my Sensor; and most of all, I miss the best time of my life!
About 1985 or 86 I got to spend many great weekend flying Buffalo Mt. near Telihina. This looks to be the same place?? I was the only one in town flying supine back then. I did an eight hour and five minute flight there, a record at the time. I also got to fly at Three Sticks (steps) OK. and somewhere in Ft. Smith AR. The local pilots were great people and fun to party with. They took the time to take this Florida Pilot to their playgrounds in the sky.
This is still the same place ( other than a new launch spot) as was used back in the 70's - present. We are having a fly in over the 4th of July at Buffalo Mountain. Please feel free to drop by and visit with us again.
Awesome flight. I logged 57 flights at Buffalo Mt back in 1978-1979. Did they move the take off further east? When I was there we had a 8 ft ramp up to a rock face more mid way of the length of the mt.
Just got notification of your email....3 months later... crazy.
Yes the takeoff moved twice. Once to the west end and now back to the east; due to landowner issues. I did use the cliff launch you mentioned when I first moved here from Chattanooga via Odessa Texas.
Please come back out to Buff over the weekend of the 4th July and see everyone. There are still a couple of folks from back then flying.
where's this at? I live in Norman.
