The stats on this video are NOT correct. Having just arrived back form my 34th trip to Ukraine, and been working intimately in Ukraine since 1994, I can tell you from governmental sources, and facility directors, and eye witness myself, children are not just put on the street at 16, they DO have educational options, and may stay in school until they are 18, in addition they have technical school, vocational school, college and university choices. What is reported in this video is NOT correct.
I met an orphan from the Chernobyl project. I really came to care for him. It was strange, I miss him so much, much more than I thought I would. I just wanted him to know that we will always be here for him. My spanish speaking friend asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he replied in spanish,"all i want for my birthday is to stay here." I really want him to come back next summer with me. We need to raise money in order for that to happen, so if you have any ideas please tell me.
i sometimes wonder who the real enemy was Hitler or the Russian government towards there own people and the way kids are living on the streets of Russia now. this all boils down to greed by powerful businessmen bribing the governments which creates poverty
Thats called "Neoliberalism" It the same thing in South America and Africa. They need to go back to socialism but not the oppressive kind that the Soviets did. They need Evo Morales of Bolivia type of socialism
I work with children with special needs in the UK, and I look for reasons why I may change to look for how I may be more useful in the world and often think about Ukraine/Chernobyl any suggestions out there ?
Seems the Ukranians are in a vicious cycle. The orphan girls are graduating to be prostitutes so that they can produce more orphan children. Have you noticed the ads for adoptions alongside ads for "meet single Ukraine girls" and others like them?
millert1409 Any country that have suffered Imperialism and oppression is like that like the Native Americans of North America, Africans and very few small Asian countries.
What an Evil thing to do! YouTube disable the audiotrack on a video about ORPHANS!!!
Hey YouTube! Why don't you just starve the orphans to death yourself! Oh that's right YOU ARE! Because you're a Western Corporation that lives off the back of OTHER people's WORK!
Thank You, my husband and mtself just love being Grandparents, we really love the girls and they have never hade grandparents before so it was wonderful for all. The girls were a little overwelmed at Christmas, there was a lot of tears, love and Joy! first Christmas in the US!
How are the girls (and your son and his wife) doing? Being Grandparents is one this, but they are the ones who go through the assimilation challenges. I hope they have adjusted smoothly.
I want adopt kids, specially when they are close to be "Graduate" before they goes to streets., you or your son can help me, give me orientetion or tips???
i know it seems sad that they are kicked out of the system at age 16 but all kids graduate from school there at 16. they are not being let go too early. it is very sad though. i got the blessing to be able to meet eight kids from there in august and i got attached to them and when they left i was depressed. we have no way of contacting them and it hurts to have someone you love like that in those kind of conditions.
Our purpose to keep those children, to show them an exit; show to the parents right attitude. this is huge job to cultivate responsibility, love in the whole nation!
"Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers you did it to Me" Matthew 25:40
I know one of those girls in the video...she was adopted by my boyfriends family this summer! along with another girl and her brother...two 11 year olds and a 13 yr old...these kids story are sad...but they still have hope
If only everyone who viewed this video and was touched by the statistics donated just $1.00 to organizations supporting Ukraine orphans--that would be a lot of money!!!
most of the time it is because parents died at war like mine abuse or they have the inability to pay it is really sad i was one of those kids since i was 5
Beautiful and moving video. I have been thinking of adopting from Ukraine for a while, but it wouldn't be something I did for a few years yet. I checked out your daughter's website, she is beautiful.
It's tragic...usually whenever they're done with school. Some sooner than 16, others a little later. The boys often resort to stealing from people/businesses, and usually end up getting caught. When that happens, they spend years in jail...the sentences are much stiffer than in the US. The girls often resort to prostitution. I love some of those girls more deeply than a girlfriend or sister...they're more than family. It hurts more than I can explain to think of the bad ways the could end up.
sister in Christ thank you so much for adding this. we all need to get off our self centered world and start feeding the hugry and clothing the naked. Ukraine is has been in my heart for a while especially the children in Ukraine. i will visit your site also. pray doors will open for me to go there on a mission trip and hopefully more. Grace and Love;
Thank you so much for adopting them. Every summer I go to Odessa, Ukraine and spend time ministering to the orphans there. They are so starved for love and attention it's heartbreaking. They are the sweetest children I've EVER come across.
We're adopting from the Ukraine and because of our age it will be an older child. I really can't wait. I keep thinking that someone over there doesn't realize it at this moment, but...we're coming, and you will be loved!
This video makes me want to adopt from Ukraine today. I have been considering about that for a while. How much harder is that than China? I'm afraid it will be too difficult, but it's something I really want to do.
Adopting from Ukraine is generally easier than china, cost's very little money (in terms of International adoption anyway), It had very relaxed requirements to adopt, although you need to file annual reports... You can generally expect about a 6-15 months to complete an adoption, and an expense of $10,000 - $12,000 for one child, add $2,000 for each additional child).
I feel SOOOOOO sorry for those poor kids. I am going to adopt a child from Ukraine soon as well.
I went to the Ukraine and worked with some children in an orphanage. Beautiful children and wonderful memories. I miss them all. Some of the babies are lucky enough to be adopted, but sadly the older children are often forgotten about, as are the children with special needs. They are all just desperate for a loving home. I wish I was in a position to adopt now.
May peace be upon those who seek The Truth and are guided by God! Well Done! Thank you for youtubing this to The Universe. Help each other and reach for one another whenever possible. God be with us when we care about each other forgetting our differences!
Man I cant wait till my husband and I are wealthy enough to adopt children, We are only 22 so we have a while, but I wanna adopt kids from his country, they are so beautiful.
Congratulation the person that made the video. This is a very good job, this is the job that make us all more humans, more sensitive and more helpful. This video is a cool message not only to people but to government and to anyone that watches it. Congratulations cool job and i believe world would be a better place with more people like you because firstly we need to be more humans and more sensitive and thats what this video showed us.
After the fall of the Great Soviet Union, everything got worse, more orphans and all. But now the country is rapidly increasing its economy (7% GDP growth 2007!) and in a few years there will be good economy in Ukraine.
Our government don't care about the population, that's why poor men drink vodka, take druggs and can't bring up their children. People don't have money (in such rich and industrial country), so they they can't bring their children normally
Great story and video. I have seen with my own eyes and heart what the children of Ukraine face. I will be travelling to the Lugansk region in a couple of weeks to work with two orphanages.
I made this video myself a little over a year ago. These are images I took personally on a mission trip to Ukraine. I haven't seen one like it and I think its presumptive to call me unethical. If someone else has produced a similar video calling attention to the plight of orphans, then bravo for them.
Lets say it's copied. Lets say it's ripped off. WHO GIVES A FLIP! (I think she made it herself) Tell the story, raise awareness and hopefully something good will come from it. Spasiba RansomedDaughter for making this. I too have seen several orphanages in Ukraine and Romania and it is heartbreaking. The stats are actually worst than presented. Their system and corruption have not prepared these children for the future.
I think you get the point of it, jouxster. If someone else is out there promoting orphan awareness with our video then great. However, wildwooproductions did email us an apology for the accusation and mistake on their part. And yes, I have seen more current statistics that are worse than when I originally made the video. Keep praying for these kids. Adoptions in Ukraine are virtually at a stand still. Some real political intervention is needed here.
@jouxster I do not see anything wrong, actually, millions of copies should be made and distributed, perhaps this would get to more people and touch their hearts.
We traveled to Ukraine in 2001 and adopted 4 children, aged 10,9,7 and 6. They are my angels and I wish everyone knew the joy and happiness these children can give. I cherish every day with them.
hammondjerry - That is great. I just wrote you an e-mail asking for input on adopting from Ukraine.
RansomedDaughter - thank you for putting this video together. It is touching and heartbreaking. I watched it several times and tears can't help but roll up.
Innocent and only seeking love. This saddens me and breaks my heart to think of the life they have. If I had the means I would be over there in a heartbeat. God bless all of them children. I have a friend who is adopting a child from the Ukraine he has downs syndrome. She is a special and beautiful woman.
heartbreaking, innocent lives full of potential, hope and dreams... sweet children and unfortunately there is no one to take care of them, help them and be the inspiration in life... ALL the best to those children....
i was one of that sad child...now i am not sad anymore...one beautiful family take me and gave me home, happiness, love, everything i need...when i become real woman i'll take one of that sad children!
yes world is bad.. there are rich people on the world and poor people too, is it even possible to eliminate poorness from the world or there will be always poorness as the opposite of the richness (as the black color is opposite of the white color etc) thats the philosophic question (or question for the economic expert)
thanks for a wonderful, powerful video. We adopted a 5 yo and 7 yo from Ukraine. The pictures you show remind us of our time there. The true plight of the orphan, after the orphanage is so very sad. Wake up Christian Community! There is an incredible harvest field waiting to be loved.
what an emotionally difficult video to watch! thank's for posting it and creating an awareness that there are suffering children outside of the popularly publicized countries. wonderful song. . .ukrainian children are like beautiful flowers and the way they are treated reflects the way the country treats its own future.
and why Ukraine only, some kids love you, because you do good things, but that doesnt mean that you have to say does things aboute diffrent countries. I am American, my mothet was Ukrainian, my father Brazilian, I have two lives, and I love only one, is to live with my mother in Odessa and play with my friends in Voznesensk (Nikolaevska Oblast).
My father is a famouse publisher in Brazil.
i lived 12 years with my mom, now i need to come to my dad, right now i write this from Sao Paulo.
Dont say me that almost 100% of Ukraine are going to be does people. The kids, that you can find underground or on the streets are doing the right thing, all does places that people take them are bad, no1 looks for them, only some places are good, does places are the places where the police take them. When they grow up, they live like people, the pray for them self's and pray for does that have the same life as they did. Some are sitting on the street and asking monie.
How cool that you know one of the kids! Please know that the statistics do not necessarily refer to the specific kids in my video (some of which have found families!), but the numbers are accurate for orphans in Ukraine.
ok, in the end you got to much, there is not 70% of crime, there is even now not 20%, maybe there is poorness and maybe they (the boys) respect theme selfs bad, but they cant go in crime that doesnt exist. that was 1st.
hi RansomedDaughter.. my blog is just a personal blog. :D not some project. i blog about my own random thoughts and feelings. tks for showing ur interest.
ppc. i live in the US. pretty wealthy life compared to that, now that i think of it. for as long as i lived here, since i was 10, ive always hoped i'd be able to adopt a child from ukraine or russia. =/
Thanks so much, I want so much to help but am a single female and it is so difficult. My life revolves around children as I teach violin to 30 children and would love to adopt more to help.
thank you so much for creating this video. a friend of mine and i are doing a service project and we are sending shoes to ukrainian orphans. a couple of other family friends have adopted children from ukraine..and this video really touches my heart. we attached it to our blog to use for our project. i hope you wont mind. we just want others to see whats going on
Leslie, Thanks for doing this amazing video. I have sent it to many friends and have linked it on my blog (thanks for giving me permission to do that!!) We brought our 10 year old daughter home 1 1/2 years ago - this video really helps inform/educate folks on the plight of all those precious adorable kids we left behind! THANK YOU! And to answer Ukrainian Angels question - Mark Schultz sings it - wrote it too I think!
Hi, Heidi. Please feel free to add it. There is an Embed link on the right of the video. Copy and paste that code into your MySpace page and it should show up. Let me know if you need any help. Thanks!
The director of our particular orphanage was fired for just this problem earlier this year. Lots of work still needs to be done! Until there is some sense of continuity of leadership in the system, the implementation of laws meant to help orphans will be far from a "right". It will take time and the involvement of others to set things right for these kids.
I commend Ukraine on where they have come. We have been working there for 8 years, things are vastly different. Yes, there is room for improvement; we started with 400 kids, and now work with 5000+ in 18 facilities. We covet any help to help orphans. His Kids, Too!
Between the stipend to new mothers ($180. per month), the new foster care system, the advanced educational programs for teens, summer camps, Ukraine is making great strides. We can't compare U.S. to any foreign country. His Kids, Too!
Ukrainian law states that all orphans have the right to higher education, if that is their desire. It is the director of the facility's obligation to help the orphan with the paperwork. This is throughout Ukraine. So the conclusion we can draw is some director are doing their job, some are not, but the 'opportunity' is in place to help the orphan, they are not just put out on the street. His Kids, Too!
The Ukrainaian gov is making some attempts to change what has been, but things are far from where they should be. Bringing attention to these kids and their future without widespread reform is what will bring about improvement.
I'm questioning why my comment was removed explaining what can happen to teen orphans in Ukraine? The information on the video is not completely factual, and people have the right to know that. I encourage people to get the facts and see what charities and the Ukrainian gov. are doing to improve the lives of orphans. His Kids, Too!
Hi, HisKidsToo-I tried to reply to your original comment and accidentally clicked remove. Thank you for reposting. The statistics reported are not misleading. While some areas of Ukraine offer better conditions and greater opportunities for orphans, many areas are staistically in line with the numbers here. Some areas are worse.
Very touching...we have 2 children adopted from Ukrainian orphanages...and we remember many of the wonderful children we met and left behind. God Bless You for helping me remember to pray for each and everyone of them.
The children are so precious and beautiful, it's a shame they have to live their lives that way. Nice video, although I would change the music. God Bless

I have a friend who is adopting a child from the Ukraine he has downs syndrome. She is a special and beautiful woman.

i think religions should promote adoption. i know its not for everyone, but it will atleast be an eye-opener to some.

yes world is bad.. there are rich people on the world and poor people too, is it even possible to eliminate poorness from the world or there will be always poorness as the opposite of the richness (as the black color is opposite of the white color etc) thats the philosophic question (or question for the economic expert)

thanks for a wonderful, powerful video.

Some are sitting on the street and asking monie.

i know that there will be only 20% of girls will go in prostitusion and 5% boys in crime, so dont go to much...
hl2tdm 4 years ago
Hi, hl2tdm-
How cool that you know one of the kids! Please know that the statistics do not necessarily refer to the specific kids in my video (some of which have found families!), but the numbers are accurate for orphans in Ukraine.
RansomedDaughter 4 years ago
ok, in the end you got to much, there is not 70% of crime, there is even now not 20%, maybe there is poorness and maybe they (the boys) respect theme selfs bad, but they cant go in crime that doesnt exist. that was 1st.

We brought our 10 year old daughter home 1 1/2 years ago - this video really helps inform/educate folks on the plight of all those precious adorable kids we left behind! THANK YOU! And to answer Ukrainian Angels question - Mark Schultz sings it - wrote it too I think!

The director of our particular orphanage was fired for just this problem earlier this year. Lots of work still needs to be done! Until there is some sense of continuity of leadership in the system, the implementation of laws meant to help orphans will be far from a "right". It will take time and the involvement of others to set things right for these kids.
RansomedDaughter 4 years ago
I commend Ukraine on where they have come. We have been working there for 8 years, things are vastly different. Yes, there is room for improvement; we started with 400 kids, and now work with 5000+ in 18 facilities. We covet any help to help orphans. His Kids, Too!
hiskidstoo 4 years ago
Between the stipend to new mothers ($180. per month), the new foster care system, the advanced educational programs for teens, summer camps, Ukraine is making great strides. We can't compare U.S. to any foreign country. His Kids, Too!
hiskidstoo 4 years ago
Talk to the director and inspector of the orphanage you work in, making sure they are doing 'their' job. His Kids, Too!
hiskidstoo 4 years ago
Ukrainian law states that all orphans have the right to higher education, if that is their desire. It is the director of the facility's obligation to help the orphan with the paperwork. This is throughout Ukraine. So the conclusion we can draw is some director are doing their job, some are not, but the 'opportunity' is in place to help the orphan, they are not just put out on the street. His Kids, Too!
hiskidstoo 4 years ago
The Ukrainaian gov is making some attempts to change what has been, but things are far from where they should be. Bringing attention to these kids and their future without widespread reform is what will bring about improvement.
RansomedDaughter 4 years ago
I'm questioning why my comment was removed explaining what can happen to teen orphans in Ukraine? The information on the video is not completely factual, and people have the right to know that. I encourage people to get the facts and see what charities and the Ukrainian gov. are doing to improve the lives of orphans. His Kids, Too!
hiskidstoo 4 years ago
Hi, HisKidsToo-I tried to reply to your original comment and accidentally clicked remove. Thank you for reposting. The statistics reported are not misleading. While some areas of Ukraine offer better conditions and greater opportunities for orphans, many areas are staistically in line with the numbers here. Some areas are worse.

Very touching...we have 2 children adopted from Ukrainian orphanages...and we remember many of the wonderful children we met and left behind. God Bless You for helping me remember to pray for each and everyone of them.
