@vironfletcher@vironfletcher hmm I'm not sure. Not someone you invite to your dinner party by any means. great movie!!! I'm looking for the scene where the guy tells his girlfriend that he cheated on her with that girl "to somehow stop this horrible war" that was priceless. Does anyone know if there's a clip of that scene?
I am analysing this scene for my English Language A level. It's particularly hard analysing Olly's character based on 3 words. It's really, how would you say, difficult difficult lemon difficult.
The fact that the meek, innocent-faced Scot from "Local Hero" grew up to play this foul-mouthed, hate-filled figure in politics is astonishing in itself.

such bad taste and bad comedic acting. a light comedy about the biggest civilian slaughter since vietnam where somehow all parties are deemed innocent.
me! it was hilarious! bit of a downer at the end when you remmeber oh yeah there's a war. but it's like hollowmen or wag the dog it's just poking fun at how retarded governments are and haphazard evertything is
because the setting changed completely they couldn't really have ollie in the film. so for some reason they got the same guy to play virtually the exact same character but with a different name. confusing.
you're right, of course, but its weird to see Malcolm not acknowledging Olly (Toby!), considering their past run-in's. just a little thing but I still love it.
I think the idea behind having some of the same actors play different characters is that even though it's a different department, the government drones are interchangeable.

Possibly the most pointless film I have ever sat through the first 10 minutes of before having to ask why the cameraman seems to wander about like a deaf mute with attention deficit!
Don't waste your time with this crap, you'd gain more from watching another rerun of Friends.
You're clearly a fool if you don't have the intellect to appreciate this film and worryingly accurate it is at portraying how government departments are clearly run, laced with sharp and witty British humour throughout.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You're right! Enjoying this film requires intellect far below my capabilities. I missed the 'sharp and witty British humour' on account of only having lived in London for 41 years and only having worked for central govt for 12, after having gained a Phd(Psy).
As others can see, this film was made for people just like 'squibmalik' and 'cheekimonkilgd'. Knock yourselves out!
you couldn't really be more wrong. most people in british politics watch the thick of it, MPs and staffers in particular, because they find it so true to reality. they are queuing up to get cameos on the show and interviews for the little 'behind the scenes' bits. the same producers are behind the film.
okay. you've all changed my mind. I now think it's a seminal piece of British film making and that it will be ranked alongside the best films ever made. Fabulous camera work and a director like no other. A truly sharp and witty commentary on British politics. There, now can you all please fuck off!
"Okay, little ball cock jockey and the leaking fucking minge-box, go back to your desks and prepare briefing!" "She's married? Poor bastard!" LMAO Brilliant film
Blacking up refares to painting your face black like the black and white minstrals from 1970s and acting like a stereotype black man. Thus., you could 'black up' on the radio and nobody would notice.
Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some fucking regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some fucking Jane fucking Austen novel! Allow me to pop a jaunty little bonnet on your purview and ram it up your shitter with a lubricated horse cock!
Considering the vastly different office positions some of these characters are in at the movie, and on a previous point in time than the series, it wouldn't make much sense to keep them as they were on the TV Show. It wouldn't make sense, for example, to have Glenn as the Director of Diplomacy when in the series he was an assistant to a Minister.
Malcom and Jamie could be kept the same, if only because their differences are not as vast as the others.
I love this film..it is a must see!! Brilliant Modern day political satire!!!...Malcolm Tucker will be a favourite for communication students years to come!! they don't teach communication like this in Uni...lol...
