Thanks! Have a Viewsonic Optiquest Q20wb monitor I acquired. First time turning on takes awhile to do it, but after awhile it turns off with a flash of light and a blip like turning off an old TV from the 60's. These monitors have lots of capacitor issues, so bought a $5 kit of the same specs online and replaced them all (even tho no bulging) and no avail.
Think mine is ALSO thermal related, will check out the board like you did and see if I can fix it with a simple solder! Hope thats the key!
i do have a same problem with my 25" i-inc monitor ,only thing im not seeing any problem with transistors or capacitors i do have power 12 and 5 dc i do not have any power where the light bulbs are pluged in the board
I found exactly the same problem with a Sony stereo system. The solder on the output transistors looked completely different to the other solder joints so I just re-soldered them. I've found quite a few solder joints like this since. I think it's caused by high-frequency vibration that somehow "microwaves" the solder from the inside. The solder always looks crystaline and the problem always seems to be with output transistors whether in an audio amp or a power supply board. Thanks for the video.
Make sure the solder joint isn't failing from not enough thermal compound (white grease) between the voltage reg/triac/whatever and the heat sink and that the screw is tight and the component sits flat on the heatsink. Those are high current components so they will heat and slightly soften the solder then cool and shrink leaving a crack in the solder joint. Also do a visual on all the electrolytic capacitors while you have the back off.
Please help if you know how ?. I have a 12v DC to 120V AC invertor that is not working because voltage output read only 84 VAC. I looked all capacitors are good. What is the next thing to do ?.Thanks
Can I take you home with me so you can fix my screen? The monitor light would come on and then it eventually would go out. I don't even know how to open the monitor and I'm afraid to do it without damaging something or hurting myself. Can you show how you opened it and point out the main parts? This would be very helpful : )
Hi, thanks for posting. I have a issue with my monitor, when I plug in to the power is just a yellow LED blinking, when in normal operation must be still green. Can you give me a help with this?
No it isn't, a freeze spray is much more effective, it is so effective that it will cause the PCB to actually literally get frost on it, thus causing condensation due to the rest of the PCB being warm -- i.e. you will get moisture on the board.
If you're going to use a freeze spray you better have insulated everything that needs it prior to using it and know what you're doing.
Hi, I have the SAME problem, it comes on, has a pinkish hue, then goes dark but i can still see (barely) I am not good with circuits though (IT as in I fix OS problems, not hardware) I do have eyes and soldering tools though. I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the circuit information for an LCD HP monitor, version PE1226. I have a couple of those fans handy if it is possible to install one in these to prevent another overheating problem. Please reply or message.
Hey Bro... I am having the same issue with my monitor... But I do not see anything getting hot or discolorations... I put a fan on and no help.. I could leave it on and pull VGA cord in and out and it will work for a while and then go off... Do u have any suggestions on what it could be?
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. I will put in practice some of your technics and hope to fix some lcds that i have. Nice and well done video. Thanks again||

YES!! Great rescue! These smaller components make it an art to be able to solder. Good job!

Very good. Do you recommend flux for reflowing/resoldering (don't know if those are the right terms even)?
Thanks for the video.

Freeze spray is much better than a fan for cooling the board. I also use a hair dryer when I want to trigger an intermittent problem.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
