I live less than 4 miles from work and less than 5 miles from college and I can barely afford to fill my tank twice a month. There is a bus service but the nearest pickup is over a mile away and it stops running 5 hours before I get off work, I'm not really into a brisk 4 mile walk home after a 18 hour day. This is more about inflation than oil prices, the powers that be are doing anything they can to keep the poor poorer and the rich richer. They want us to fight each other, it's game to them.

The U.S. administration is deliberately driving this. The administration could easily put downward pressure on prices in a number of ways and they would have near immediate effect.

The administration however does not want that despite any rhetoric otherwise. The administration wants it's Green agenda and it wants to be able to blame big oil.

It`s a push to scare people into letting them drill more. 2.The push towards alternate energy sources is gaining steam so they are going to gouge the consumer for all they can get for as long as they can.

1) Our gas prices are still much lower than most of europe.

We dont tax gas nearly as much, and still keep prices quite low.

Obama may be threatening to end subsidies, but hasnt yet, and it still wont raise gas prices to european levels.

2) If we cared to push a green agenda, we would be putting way more into green tech, but gov support is still far behind many other countries, on federal and most state levels.

3) Green is best economically either way

But that they knew they could not get that directly, so what they did was to instrument unreasonable controls (hence the 1000+ current waivers) to drive up costs (already happening) and public dissatisfaction so as to make the public pliable to a complete takeover. @asant79 Whats crazy is that alternative energies are more profitable, but its a long term investment and most companies are set for short term profits.

I priced solar on homes, every 2 years for 5 years, and the price dropped while efficiency rose every time. At a good pace too.

Payoff was 10-15 years depending on what you get and where you live.

I assume any company getting into solar arrays could get a similar return on investment, if not better

But 10 years is long time for profit seekers
