I went undiagnosed for the last 25 years (my first TBI was in 1986, leaving two scars equaling 92 stitches on by brow & forehead). It was by chance that I read a book talking about TBIs in Jan 2011. My TBIs have not made my life a cake walk by any means. 25 years of suicidal tendencies, bizarre behavior, topsy-turvy emotions, unsupportive family, difficulty maintaining friendships and/or employment. At least now I know and am educating myself regarding TBIs.
thank you so much for explaining this, ever since my bike accident when i got a concussion ive been having tunnel vision and i thought the things i were seeing were because of my eyes but the eye doctors said it was because of my concussion so thank you for going into depth on this and explaining it, i also get headaches now from lights and things like that
I still have lingering effects from taking a slapshot to the side of the head in hockey. I have headaches almost everyday if i do too much, or if screens are to bright.
thanks so much for sharing your story! it's good to hear that there are others who have had similar experiences as me after having a life-changing accident. i can relate to so much of what you went through, and for all of the frustration that i still endure nearly 2 years after being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome, i thank God that it's not worse. keep sharing your road to recovery! you have definitely inspired me :-)
Have you finished the documentary? I am 15 mos post-concussion after being severely rear-ended. I continue to see progress slowly but surely. I am limited to 20 min of walking. I never heard of PCS before this accident. I now have PPCS (Prolonged PCS). Am currently under the care of a Neuro. He's not a NeuroPsych Doc. Hope your recovery is complete!?!
Since September when I received a concussion by hitting the back of my head on I guess a arm rest not really sure I have had so many weird symptoms and headaches everyday and I would always say its like im not learning anything I take it all in and then its gone and when you were talking about your brain being a filter and all that my jaw dropped and I was like wow thats exactly what is happening,I am going to see a neurologist in February what will they do and say?
I received a bad concussion from being assaulted 2.5 months ago. As of now, I have no headaches and vision is again clear (most of the time), but I still have tons of problems concentrating and feel like my brain is in a fog. I also feel very fatigued and depressed/nervous most of the time. It is comforting to know I am not alone and I thank you for making this video.
@LordOctemeus please tell-did your ear ring?I had a week ago a concussion but they let me off because my hematoma didnt grow.but tonight I woke up my ear was ringing and its been ten hour and hasnt stopped. Is that a post symhtome?
@daisicooper2 YES! I saw a concert a week or 2 after the concussion and my ears rang for days afterward. (I'm a musician and played and watched tons of concerts and my ears never ring anymore) Ears stopped acting weird on me after a few months. It sucks. I'm 9 months or so into this and my brain is still fried :P Much better and actually functioning a lot more now tho.
I ran full speed into a metal fence. I had a stage 2 concussion but I believe I have post concussion. I have evry side effect for 3 months. I hate it. When I wirte things for school, they dont make sense, they made sense before... and I have a constant headache. how does it stop?
Great video testimony, but in the opening title shot you have the misspelling "Mild Tramic Brain Injury". Just thought I'd bring that to your attention. Take care.
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I suffered a severe head trauma 2 1/2 years ago. They did an M.R.I. and C.T. but didn't notice anything? I was sent home the next day with a diagnosis of severe neck strain without putting a collar on? The concussion went untreated going on two and a half years now. I suffer from severe chronic pain, anxiety going in to stores, music really bothers me, can't stand crowds severe balance issues along with essential tremors and double vision.
I accidentally struck the top of a wood chair top 3 1/2 months ago on a ship, and bled, but didn't pass out. I've had headaches since then, and diziness (mostly gone)
My right ear recently started ringing louder.
I may recover within six months (?) I can't afford a doctor w/o insurance.
I am recovering from concussion. My body intuitively told me to drink POMEGRANATE JUICE, which I have been doing and it has been helping. I then read that this has high levels of antioxidants, which aid healing.
Next my body told me to drink ALOE VERA juice. This has also been helping. I have read that aloe vera acts to reduce inflammation.
I believe in natural remedies and would like to share this learning with others.
I have a moderate to mild brain trauma injury from when an illegal alien hit me from behind as I was driving on a hwy at 60mph. I like you thought I was going insane, and it took me over a yr to finally get to see a TBI specialist here in Dallas, TX. What I need now is a support group to just talk with when I'm having a bad day, and today I'm having a bad day...
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your words of such truth dealing with this type of injury. It has helped me allot.
I credit my recovery to trying to be mentally active and to learn and relearn. The YouTube videos, the documentary "RECLAIMING YOUR LIFE" were all part of the cognitive retraining suggested by my doctors. My father suffers from post concussion syndrome after falling off a ladder at work onto a conrete floor. Go see a doctor that is what I have heard for the last two and a half years let me tell you I have seen 22 doctors and not one of them has been a help all I get Is you might have brain damage or its stress or you have ADHD. wow I did not know you could get ADHD from multiple concusions from playing ice hockey for 18 year lol. What im getting at is most doctors dont know anything about this your best bet is a neuropsychologist

Yeah, sounds like you're gonna be fine. It's possible that the fogginess lasts for you for a while, but to be honest, the faster you learn to deal with it the better. Thankyou so much for this video. I have been very scared since aconcussion 3 weeks ago.(not as serious as yours) I so associated with "life in the weird lane". I take on board your comment to see a neurologist and I plan to. Dizziness, fatigue, sickness, just completely spaced out.
Whoa, how are u doign now. I got hit in the head 5 times with some decent punches. i wasn't knocekd out but a few days later i felt slightly nauseous, i didn't vomit, i felt light headed like minorly dizzy, and some pressure on my head not really pain.. I went to a doctor she said i didnt' need a catscan cause she checked my pupils and i told her my symptoms. its been almost 2 weeks since i was hit and i still feel the lightheadedness and pressure. I guess the symptoms last a while.
Thanks for this. I got a mild concussion from londond underground doors slamming on my head when I wasn't paying attention. Been dizzy for a couple of weeks now, sporadic headaches and worst of all, get massive anxiety attacks some nights. I'm hoping I'll heal up okay in a month or so, because it wasn't a major accident, but even so, hearing these things are very reassuring.
Dude how did that go. I posted my story in a reply, Basically i was punched 5 times in the face, just decent punches, nothing that knocked me out. But 3 days later i felt nauseous, lightheaded, and prssure on my head. I went to a doctor she said i should be fine and i don't need a scan,, But i still feel light headed and pressure on my head its almost been 2 weeks. I can still drive fine tho and walk. have u gotten better or been able to drnk alcohol?
You just have to wait, really. It's really annoying and it can get you totally depressed because you can't seem to do everything you're used to doing.
But now (3 months later), I'm not actually sure if I'm any less "foggy" (I'm more or less aclimatized to it), but the visual aura (blind spots in vision) haven't come back, and nor have the headaches. So I'm basically functional now.
All the braincells I killed with the tube doors, I replaced with StreetFighter 4 playing neurons. Hot damn!
I received a bad concussion from a hit in a high school lacrosse game a little over four months ago, and I have been diagnosed with PCS. It makes me depressed sometimes, because it does not allow me to exercise (I am a bodybuilder). So watching my body fall apart is very painful. I have lost about 16-18 lbs of muscle, and it seems like my headaches will never go away or heal.
Holy shit dude. I hope i dont' have that, its only been 2 weeks for me, but i dn' get pain ful headaches. i just wondered why ur not allowed to exercise when u have this injury. The doctor told me not to exercise until my symptoms go away. I"m not a bodybuilder but i normally work out 5 days a week to keep my self fit for fighting, grappling, ETc. Normally i'll get fat or chubby if i don't work out, thats why these injuries suck. How are u doing? are u better now?
thank you.thank you. you were very lucky to have been recognized. july '07 a 20 ton dumptruck changed my world. depersonalized and distant. no one believes me. no one wants to see. i can't explain. low energy biofeedback helped so many things. so much is still bizarre.
i had pcs after getting kicked in the head from a horse its a very confusing and difficult thing to deal with i remember being at the hospital and being told to follow the blue line on the floor to the toilet that was about 5 meters away and i just could not understand what they were telling me its so hard for people to understand if they dont have one becuz on the otside you look fine it ruined my life while i was recovering and i just felt like a vegtable in the brain and fine on the outside
It has just been decided that a family member of mine has PCS. We didn't know what was wrong with him and have put him through hell because of doctors could not identify what was wrong with him.
Thank you for making this video. Thank you for the words.."you are not going crazy" and the words..."you are not alone". I sure feel alone... this makes me feel better about my brain.
I have pcs for 4 years. It started with a concussion and then I healed..then pcs came after around 6 months from a job i had. It has changed my life and the Neorologist told me if you have these symptoms past 2 years, its likely you will have it forever. I cannnot lift anytning heavy otherwise I am back to square 1 with symptoms..Now i have the worry of every being able to have a child due to the heavy lifting..its very sad. But i do prey oneday i will be ok...any advice?
I read this with tears i have battled PCS for 1 year now it was awful at first i was even knocked out but later learned you didn't have to be thanks for the video

Thank you for writing me about your experience. I was very touched by "there is no one who understands." I do understand. That is why I posted my experience on You Tube and continue to work on a documentry film of someone that has had the experience. There are a lot of us that know what it is like and to let you know that there is hope. "It's been about 18 months for me and my recovery has been amazing. It seems dark at times but I promise that it will pass and get better. God Bless
I would just like to raise one point, especially to those of you reading this who have been recently diagnosed with PCS, which is that almost everyone recovers. 99% are better within a year. I'm 3 months post injury and am starting to notice improvements in all my symptoms. Positivity is an important part of the healing process.
Thank you, point well taken. It been 18 months and the recover is remarkable. Doctors say maybe another year or two. Although it seems like forever, there is hope and "this too, shall pass"
I have PCS for two years. Heavy glass hit my head while i was repairing a Telephone line. My life has change. I see a chiropractor for my headaches and it helps. My Volunteer firefighter days are over. I take it day by day. Thanks for the video brother.
Thank you! I suffer from PCS (post concussion syndrome), from a fall on the ice 12/2008. I have been searching for other actual people who have similar injuries, not medical doctors. It is a very frustrating condition and I beleive is helps to relate to others who have experienced the complex changes it makes in your life and you personally. I suffer physical symptoms treated by meds, to personality changes and memory & mental changes which are the most frustrating.
I have PCS. I got injured on my job. I'm a Cable tv tech. While i was on my knees splicing a telephone and cable line, the house maid kept moving items in the bedroom. I had told her before to stop, moments later i was knocked out. I got hit in the head, i thought she had hit me with a baseball bat. I was bleeding bad. A heavy Glass thick plate went into my head deep. 2 weeks later i went back to work.I didn't know who were i was. I had been out of work for 2 years. It takes a long time to heal
Thanks, for sharing your experience. Personally it has been more than two years.... It does get better. It seems like its going to last forever but the energy comes back and the headaches slowly subside. The very best in your recovery.
The grocery store is an evil place for someone w/ a concussion!!!! Thank you so much for talking bout something not everyone understands.
