@MarijnACDC a pick up is the little metal box you see under the strings that "picks" up the sound of the strings and sends it to the amps. He just hums into the pick ups like you would hum along to a song. It's quite simple. I dated a guitar player for years and watched alot of the tricks of the trade. I'm older now and my son is in a band and one of the guitarists in that band does the same thing in a song. Find someone you know that plays guitar and ask about pick ups.

He's singing. Some Pickups are not only working magnetical but also microphonic (or the relation between both ways differs, technically I'm not shure. What's important:

There are guitars - mainly old ones with humbuckers, like this ES - that are very microphonic.)

So If you add a good amount of distortion, like Matthew does here, you really get a considerable signal.

Plus Delay and some reverb and you got that nice pad.

@radiombraker first i think u must need to have a semi-hollow body guitar,then using the expression pedal (as a wah-wammy)hum or scream towards the pick up as u pick onto the E or A string,and the sound will resonate becuase of the semi-hollow body. Remember for some effects u need prime gear,for others just some imagination and creativity,good luck,keep rocking!!

@radiombraker or try this,a simple scream into the pick up,tho you're gonna notice how the delay is not enough to give the sound the tone and modulation,so use ur wah-wammy/expression pedal and it will give u the best sound

.he uses strong reverb effect pedal with a bit of echo and delay..

.my band covered this song and used this effects mentioned above and it sounded 90% like original..only tricky part is to set every effect to right amount..
