@ammonia11 bud.. this sks is not a yugoslavian.., it is a chinese. only yugo's that shoot grenades have the shut-off. when you flip up the grenade site on a yugo it shuts off the gas supply to the gas piston thus forcing all the gas out of the muzzle and in turn, preventing the weapon from cycling. only shoot banks when firing grenades. cheers.

i just use laquor thinner or paint thinner... i dont remember . i think laquor thinner. doesnt hurt anything and the cosmoline literally just drips off like water. i got a new unissued yugo sks and it took me an hour and a half to clean the whole thing and it was ready to shoot

@Dmajorproductions any residual oil can burn and create carbon build up. that piston and tube get extremely hot, and can "cook" the oil.

@9mmkahr Ah, looked different from my Russian SKS so had to ask. Have you got an SVT40 as well? Those are amazing rifles, pretty similar to the SKS, although a bit more complicated to disassemble. Fun to shoot with some cheap surplus! Simonov pretty much tweaked and perfected Tokarev's design in a smaller package I find. Wish they'd have kept the detachable magazines though, but that's why they made the SKS-D lol

One of the best on the SKS! You had me LMFAO!!! One other thing you should mention is to make sure to use a solid (steel/concrete) base AND a STEEL PUNCH when taking out that PITA firing pin retainer pin - especially on a new gun. After much pounding on my new Yugo and two bent punches - I learned a block of wood don't work like I seen on some vids. Keep up the good work!

@wakeness man i haven't done anything in a long time. i'm moving into a new place soon, once i get settled i'll start making more. i believe he just PISSED in his barrel to clean it. ammonia based cleaners such as windex will do the trick. i believe you use the windex first, patch it, then clean as usual.

@9mmkahr from what I understand, windex (with AMMONIA) is a good range method to slow corrosion, but you should go home and use hot soapy water ASAP. Solvents work , but the hot water is less abusive to your gun. Some "old timers" recommend a 10% Ballistol to water mix. The Ballistol remains after the water dries and lubes all the nooks and crannies. Then patch and lube as usual. I use Ballistol a lot - good stuff! Got a case of Yugo milsurp coming - will try that Ballistol mix myself!

@MrBossilini .. a bullet? how about a cartrige. i don't hand load, so i don't have bullets laying around. pretty sure you don't either. but as far as your idea goes, yes, it's a good idea in the field. but at home, it's easier with the screwdriver i keep in my range bag! if you follow ANY safety procedures at all, you would know not to have ammo anywhere NEAR a firearm while cleaning. that's how people get shot. from dumbasses who have "bullets" lying around everywhere.

@blasvida68 i refinished it. type in "norinco stock refinish" in google, and you should find my thread with the same name @ hk94,com. as for the gunk, that is called "cosmoline" which is a mixture of beeswax and parafin. it protects the rifle for long term storage. a whole lot of sanding, or do what i did, bake the parts in the oven.. google that as well.. good luck m8!

@shaolin564 Although you don't have to be quick about it you do have to clean the rifle after you shoot enough non-corrosive The gas assemebly and bolt group will junk up eventually. It's a good habit to clean any rifle as soon as you get back from the range.
