As a mother of two sons who are in the US Military I know the feelings of pride and fear that comes with having your loved one away in a dangerous place everyday of the year. However, it's a totally different feeling on a holiday. So much more intensity is found in those feelings. And yes, it does cross your mind, you do wonder if maybe that last holiday you were together was your last holiday together and the ache that fills your heart and the fright that fears your soul at the recognition

My hubby is in Iraq and Thanksgiving was such a bittersweet day for me. I cried while saying grace thinking about how much I wished he was there with me. I am fortunate he is home soon, end of March... without the sacrafices of the military we would not have our freedoms! It's such a disgrace to see ppl say the military DOES NOT fight for the freedom of our country... SHAME on you ppl. I don't support the war, but I do the military. As a prior Army vet, they DO what they have to do.

Tears are rolling right now, as my family also waits for the safe return of my son-in-law....we are also Native American, and many tribes call it a day of mourning, but as I told a friend who commented that it put a damper on his Thanksgiving to think of that, Thanksgiving goes much deeper..it is to THANK GOD NOW...now 300 years ago...TODAY , for what we have, and I'm sure every person who is reading this has MUCH to be thankful for, regardless of situations..God Bless us, Everyone..

Even if you don't like our country, you really need to be grateful for what we have. Our armed forces have been hard at work for the past 7 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. No I do have my views against the war, but our military deserves credit for what they have done. Plus, we have learned a lot from 9/11, so we are MUCH better prepared for a terror attack. Under the first amendment you have the right to bash our country, but you really need to appreciate our country for what it is.

On Thanksgiving 1969, I was with B Troop, 11thACR in Vietnam. We were in Quan Loi and getting ready to have a great dinner when we got a call to support a troop that had got ambushed. Well we loaded up and reacted and well we looked forward to eating C-Rations. Well after we had set up that night, the choppers came in and we saw the cooks unloading mermac cans. They had brought out our Thanksgining dinner. I still say it was the best I ever had. Support our troops.
