How In the hell did the George Baker Selection go from Little Green Bag to Una Paloma Blanca?! Kind of makes you wonder. Also, YOU ROCK A LES PAUL!!! YOU DON'T STRUM IT!!!
My dad loved this song back in the day. He also loved Abba and I see a connection of sorts. My question is,,,, Is this a national anthem for a country in middle or south America?
@angelkid79 I remember this song during bicentennial celebrations of our nation; from 1975 to 1976 when this song played on the radio during my high school days.
@luizjanuariodossanto Ah que parece parece... vc que nao ta associando os dois... .. mas mesmo assim é uma banda legal ... Não to desfazendo dos artistas... so eh semelhança ...
If you don't like this song, don't listen. That's what the little x in the corner is for. Please don't take away our freedom to enjoy this lovely song.
For some reason, I love this music on American Independance day with some of the lyrics referring to freedom. Love this song back in 1976 on our 200th Anniversary of our proud Nation, which today our incompetent president wants to destroy. I hope he is voted out by a 3 to 1 margin. Our nation is too valuable to be destroyed by a fake and naked Marxist Obama.
@krakenwave You ought to go to a psychiatrist to find out if you are psychotic and get a job/life because I think you are a leech. By the way you are condescending.
Of course I am condescending because you are a bigoted fuckwit.
I am a nurse - what do YOU do for your fellow mankind day in, day out, other than spew out the same old moronic class of loser-bubba bullshit? Just because your missis preferred the crack peddler to you and your trailer life?
At least I can go to a shrink if I needed to - unlike you, left to head-fester with no way out but to kill yourself. Do it. You'll never have sex again so why not end it now? Bye!
@krakenwave good bye loser..you just proved how sub-human you are due your brain is festered with chemicals from drug abuse; its evident from your sentences in your reply...I'm having a great life and bet your self hatred is eating you alive from the inside...bet its too late for you you moron...go find yourself some pasture and stay there or under a rock. Pity you and good riddance.
@pgs5719 you are nothing but a permanent condescending sub-human filth that's not worthy of being called a human...sub-human filthy thing you are. Bet you are a psychotic leftists that is in bed with Islamofacist demons that use you as a useful idiot.
Aw, pigsSTIE, you've missed some words out and I guess that must hurt, so here's your final chance to tell the world. Go on, knock yourself out. We're all just birds in the sky, after all.
We'll see you after your refills-due date, no doubt.
@krakenwave are you still alive moron?....sub-human filth that leftists are known for; bet drug addiction has run its course in your mind and left with very few brain cells in your pinhead. Its too late for you to imbecile to backtrack to a good life of commonsense.
Arm yourself because the day of You Tube pop reckoning is here. Dig that hole in your local "contracted-out-to-China" industrial dump because us librol drug zombies are coming to slurp your brains. Trouble is, yours are so low calorie that we now need the marrow from the spines of your unwanted bastard children to make up the allowance. Yes, even your fugly leftbehind FAS spawn with the hot smooth premium grills will sustain us. Unless you got hotter spawn for our ceremonies
I remember this song from when I was a kid. My German mother, with her thick accent, would dance around the house singing this to my little sister & me. It always made me feel really happy to hear it.
It came out in 1975. I remember very well, because I was a US soldier stationed in Germany on leave in Berlin. We were allowed to visit East Berlin in Army dress uniforms. I went to the disco on the Alexanderplatz, and danced with those kids who wished they could be a paloma blanca that could fly over the Berlin Wall...and 14 years later they could walk through it. This sound represents freedom to me,.
Berlin bleibt frei, Berlin bleibt Berlin
Tanslation: Thank you for your nice words! Last weekend I was in my favorite city, Berlin, unified Berlin, was on Alexanderplatz and walked through the Brandenburg Gate. Berlin remains free; Berlin remains Berlin!.
Well this song is so much better than today's condescending rap and most hip hop music that glorifies violence, racism, violence against police and against other women; words like Niggas and bitches/ho in their lyrics...shows that most of today's music has no soul and love today compare to music from 1900's to 1994.
Finally here, 9 years after the release of "Flashback". The new George Baker album "Lonely Boy" will be released on the 13th of november, on the CNR label.
For the SNL fans out there, this song brings back memories of BUH-WHEET! Along with "Three Times a Lady" by the Commodores and "Lookin' for Love in All the Wrong Places" by the Grass Roots
Roymeboy0 you are correct. Both versions entered the British charts on the 6th of September 1975. Baker's version peaked at 10 and stayed on chart for 10 weeks. King's version peaked at 5 and stayed for 11 weeks. I have not heard the King version, but it still a great song.
I was an American soldier with leave in Berlin. I visited East Berlin and went to the disco on the ground floor of the famous TV Tower on the Alexanderplatz. I remember dancing with those East German kids, and thinking how sad. Birds could fly over the Berlin Wall, but they couldn´t--until November 9, 1989. This song represents the FREEDOM I guess I have always taken for granted as an American and as an Israeli.
I remember this song when i was just a toddler and here is western australia there was a place called el cabalo blanco that used used the tune for their tv ad

I remember in the 70s when I knew a friend that came here from a country where liberty was limited or non-existant. He loved this song because of the freedom he finally had and he would sing the part "no one can take my freedom away". The song may be corny, but it is a reminder that freedom isn't free!

I remember in the 70s when I knew a friend that came here from a country where liberty was limited or non-existant. He loved this song because of the freedom he finally had and he would sing the part "no one can take my freedom away". The song may be corny, but it is a reminder that freedom isn't free!

I heard he wrote this during a near fatal dose of Flintstones vitamins.

I wonder how many takes they had to do of that video before they got one where the bird didn't crap on his hand.

My fave song in early 1975. Very positive. Haven't heard it in about 30 years.

Classic 1970s Europop! I can remember hearing this on the radio back when I was a kid. I've always loved it and still do!
