Best mount escape is to pull out your knife and stab them. Oh wait MMA doesn't alow weapons... I just forgot that MMA has rules to protect people from actually getting killed while fighting because they constantly boast about how real it is, so I just forgot that it is actually not real and ground fighting in real life is a horrible idea.
Yeah, you know what I mean. I did the whole MMA, it was fun and I LOVE BJJ, it's my favorite sport, it's so cool for me as a little guy,to be able to own the new guys that are technically 3 weight classes above me hahaBut in all honesty,Kempo is my art I love it's history,I love the way it works, I love how we actually spar. I love that we train for things like bear hug from behind or guy grabbing the shirt etc There's some NASTY things in self defense in Kempo lolWe do ground, but don't WANT it
....limbs have more humility than this man. Go talk to people from moden war-torn Nations. They would just say "What the hell is he babbling about?" Hear their stories, after that what this baffoon says is comical at best. He has too much time on his hands, obvisiously. He is as superficial, arrogant, materialistic as most of us westerners. All concerned with how we look, staring at ourselves in the gym mirror, telling everyone what we're thinking & how important it is. And I'm as guilty as him!
This man is not some sort of Buddha/Zen god. He is a very average man at best. Yes he is very good at MMA or whatever it is he does, but that doesn't make a man. This man hasn't lived a real life yet, he hasn't proved his humility at all. He is just as average as you or I. Humility isn't coming on the Internet & talking about how tough these "trained killers" (don't make me laugh) are. He thinks he is on a higher plane.....He is just plain high, my friends. Little Iraqi kids, with blown off....
@ViceCityVacation your pretty judgemental there, what can you really tell from this video? do you know what he's thought, or what he's hiding? no, you dont, and you cant. get over it and stop blatantly judging people while pretending to be smart. just makes you look stupid.
@ViceCityVacation "very good at MMA"? How do you judge someone like that without even knowing what they really do? And of course iraqi kids would have more humility than him, that is saying nothing... the fact is, for someone as successful as he is, he's a very humble person.
If I could sit down in a room with John Lennon, Joe Rogan, Bill Hicks, Kid Cudi, and Martin Luther King and have an intelligent conversation with all of them at the same time it would be the greatest moment in my life.
awesome comment bro (or ma'am). i think of society like a car. the engine may be the main driving force, but what about the tires, the seats, the steering wheel, the nuts and bolts? all have to do their job in order for the machine to function properly. whether a person is a doctor or a garbage man, we need them. we should all respect each other equally and do the job we have chosen so as to maintain ourselves and our communities as a whole.
"Nobody teaches you how to think, nobody teaches you how your mind work"
That's awesome Joe. I would even extend the topic of school to I believe it's maybe not for everyone.
Here we are in a controlled barricaded setting, trying to alter instinct that has evolved over millions of years. Is it truly my fault that I'd rather look out the window? I'm supposed to be out hunting, competing, & having sex not sitting in a desk for 8 hrs.
Definitely agree with him, especially the part at the end. Public schools should really focus more on teaching logic, common sense, and looking-out for each other to train kids how to transform themselves into proper adults. If animals in the wild can train their young this way, then why can't we?
hes got a point about "the man" only being the man because of his peers. I went to a frat party the other day (not my decision) but anyways these guys think theyre hot shit cuz their "bros" are all in it together giving each other that fake ass brotherhood and support. This support mainly leads to bullshit egos who look down upon those not in their frat
I think it sounds like someone who is humble in a sort of absolutist sort of way. The language and notions put forward by Rogan seem to be as if his interpretation of things is correct, which is an arrogance. Muay ThaiViking says that people ought to speak their mind strongly. i would disagree, not only in the sense of arrogance, but that using such presentation can steam roll others around you.
He's totally right. What would you do without the guys taking away your garbage? What would you do without the lady behind the counter? You might think you are better then them cause you got a university degree with summa cum whatever, but the reality is we all depend on each other in a modern society. Nobody is above anybody and you gotta try to knock that into your brain. I have a long way to go acting upon that myself. But you gotta at least try.
@Altairograph Well better is a relative term. Better at what? Yes both the Dunkin Donuts employee, and the neurosurgeon have their pace in life, but that does not mean they're equal in anyway. Theres no reason to act like this is a kindergarten class, some people are born stronger, faster, better looking, smarter, richer, poorer. We are NOT all equal, thats nothing to cower from. Having a place in society does not make you equal to a superior specimen. Sorry but its true.
@themi90 Better in a moral sense and better as in deserving more respect. That's what I mean with "better". If you read my post again, I did at no time use the word "equal". I completely agree that we are not equal. People have different talents, are born into different social settings and so on. But IMO everyone who works and contributes to society is deserving of a fundamental level of respect, and just because someone is higher up in the ladder doesn't make him morally superior.
@Altairograph Unfortunately there will never be a time when no one thinks they're better than anyone else. In a competitive, classed society, controlled by fear and greed, where everything about us is graded, it's inevitable that people will think they're better than other people. That is how the elite class wants it, They control the world to maintain their wealth and they use their wealth to do it. While some people will free their minds, the masses will always be captive.
@rrhynes I don't like it. You sound like a idiot. Don't worry about forming an evidence to back up your hypothesis. Just compare him to other bad guys like a fucking 12 year old. I'm sure you're a really great human being too.
@gwynthfair I'm not worried about providing morons like you any evidence. Joe Rogan is an arrogant, angry asshole that swaggers around with a shit-eating grin on his face while pretending to be some kind of intellectual. His appeal is mainly 16-25yr old guys . You must fall into that category.
@rrhynes Did you know there's this thing you can do where you disagree and have a discussion using logic, rather than making irrational hyperbolic generalizations with absolutely no interesting information? Do the internet and everyone in your life a favor and learn some interpersonal communications skills and then do some research on logical fallacies.
I like Joe and have a lot of respect for the guy but he contradicts himself time and time again with the way he acts vs the way he claims to be.
His podcast is awesome and I watch it all the time but you only have to watch the way he gives shit to Redban (co-host) to see that he's not a calm, zen, cool guy all the time...
His ego is being massaged in this clip and it shows in the way he carries himself.
I'm not hating on the guy but hypocrisy gives me the shits deluxe.
I agree with joe on many things about how the schools work they should teach you outher more practical things too about life to prepare you thurily for the long road ahead !
@rhombusskullvsteal Ready for it? Here it is. You're dumb. You must not be catching up with whatever material he's diving into, so it sounds super smart to you, because you can't put the words and themes and ideas together. To you he's saying it with ego, yet all it is is conviction, an excitement for a lesson-in-life idea.
@FrettingCajarot because over the medium of youtube you can discern anything about my intelligence, as well as stating that intelligence is objective in any possible way right? the fundamental roots of rogan's philosophy are regressed into his personality and own opinions, using sentences like "fuck dude dmt is fucking mind blowing!" and oversimplifying without giving insight into any of it's details saying things like "dumb people doing dmt will have a bad trip". Like it or not he is an ego.
it's not at all clear to me that Joe Rogan's ego is gone.
The way he talks sometimes gives me the feeling that he thinks he's got it all right, and knows it all. And that's a very ideological / ego-boosting way of thinking... Anyone else with similar feelings?
I very well may be wrong offcourse, because I don't know the guy... It's just a feeling.
@MrMincer Well, he's not buddah and he's not saying he's got it all right. He's simply sharing his view on humbleness and how to be a positive human who contributes to the world. If you'll look up some excerpts from his podcast, you'll see that he constantly says that he doesn't have it all figured out, that he's not 100% on all there is to know in life.
@MrMincer As a fellow person who is very introspective myself, there's a level of logic and questioning that we pursue that most people don't. And because of this deep soul-searching, it's hard to relate to others, because we perceive life a completely different way. We are unable to blindly submit ourselves to any sort of way of life that we were given...we know there's something more to it. So it's easy to see us as "thinking we know it all", when we question the efficacy of everything.
@pathsounds True man - introspective (a big one) talking here..with same problem..i dont think that im better.. im just the same but with wider insight in many things than those guys (the others).
Actually, even though im a very nice person (and there are good and clever ppl that will tell u this too),not rarely i piss ( mostly mainstream) ppl off..by.. being myself.
Once my friend being drunk (with slight highs experience in his life) told me that its just becouse they are afraid of our cind...
@MrMincer I see where you're coming from, but ego is something we all have to have to even be social think about it. Ego imo is partially what gives you confidence without some ego you're going to end up being in some depressed state.
@MrMincer i think he is just confident and knows his place. He knows that he isnt the greatest fighter/commentator/person alive....but he knows he aint the worse either.
@MrMincer Like everyone his ego isn't "gone." It's not possible to get rid of the ego, but it is possible to manage it, and I think Joe does a very good job of doing that, and the way he answered that question was rather centered and humble, in my opinion at least.
@MrMincer i dont agree. he just has some very strong opinions and is not afraid to speak pasionately about them. thats something we all could learn. when joe is discussing with another person with a strong opinion, they always end up with good arguments. and sometimes admit if they were wrong
people should just be able to speak their mind more strongly like joe, i think
@thomaskawaxxx man i was a kid who found a drug group i got into TONS of trouble with gangsters.. so, I respect your opinions, but look wouldn't it be bettter for a kid just to go to the store and get some damn kush instead? And if you want to better base your opinion on extraterrestrials do some reasearch when you get some free time on just how big the universe really is. Pce
look i've smoked to so i know what it is. i live in belgium and you can buy weed in a cofeeshop in the netherlands ( 1 houre drive.)
there still are dealers in the streets and yes harddrugusers are a little more low now. but there are ALOT of weed users and losers that don't work, so that cost money for the gouverment that the people in the netherlands pay... and there are alot of people that want to stop that. there are more people smoking now than when it was iligal...
People who are confident and have the ability to portray thier true beliefs come off as egotistical, to someone who sits behing the internet and talk shit.
@MrMincer You know I actually have an opinion on this as well. Joe is an extremely intelligent person. But intelligence doesn't necessarily mean enlightenment. I think Joe is scared to completely let go. He's scared what it would do to his image. So he bashes Buddhism, and picks fun at Duncan when he tries to talk about it. But I think on some level Joe knows he's being naive. When he says stuff like "Buddha's life sucked, that's why he said life is suffering" that alone tells me he aint got it.
@MrMincer and like you said, who knows. He may just not want to talk about it publicly a whole lot. He could be a Zen master for all I know. But he sure doesn't act like it on the podcast. It almost seems like now he's trying to distance himself from the idea. Last time Duncan was on they had a "fight" where Joe just kept making fun of Duncan's idea's about ego death. It's a risky career path to take. So I'd respect him even if he was purposely distancing himself from it.
@MrMincer Yeah I think you're jumping to conclusions. Well your first statement is true, I wouldn't say his ego is "gone" and that he is in a state of full transcendence, haha...but, within it's construct to a good extent, he understands the meaning behind keeping it in check. That's important. I'll bet he's open to learning more...I doubt he just thinks he knows it all. Yes though, some people can use the "I am humble" as a way of just protecting their ego, haha..but, I don't think he doing it
I'm not saying ego death shouldn't be a sought out experience. It can give good a perspective on things, but in day to day living, I don't know if you'd want to be completely free from ego.
@MrMincer Part of the reason why Joe sounds like he has it all figured out is that he accepts that he isn't perfect and he is going to have failures in life, things aren't always fair, there are people who are better at certain things. He accepts life for how it is, not saying he's the victim like so many occupy wall street people. He accepts and can handle the things in life he can't change. We can all learn something from this.
@MrMincer he never said his ego has gone...he aint no Zen Master... he is just say in general its better to not be needy and egoistic but doesn't really go to a personal level on it
@ROOTSOFCOMBAT He just speaks his mind. Traditional martial arts are KNOWN to be ineffective, but people like you try to stir up trouble. He crapped on Traditional martial arts? He got ASKED A question.
@zacktillery Firstly let me say that my coice of language was inaproperiot but i do stand by the sentiment, Mr Rogan is person in a position of power in that he can influence thoughts, feelings and actions with every word he says almst everyone in the martial arts community knows his name and most people have seen or heard him at least once in their lives. That being said his personal feelings on any subject especially a subject important to many people around the world should not influence the
@ROOTSOFCOMBAT contiue from last post, way that he speaks publicly. He could have spoke in a much less offensive manner. He could have said that the traditional martials that he had had experience with did not suit him or perhaps did not seem useful to him. I can speak that way (even though i try not to) because i am not an anoucer for a multi million dollar organization.
haha joe rogan and humility in the same sentence? yeah no... asking joe rogan about humility is like asking steve jobs about microsoft.... this is terrible, joe rogan knows nothing of humility, just watch his other videos....
Joe Rogan is such an arrogant, narcissistic, delusional shithead that he spends time trying to convince everybody of how much better he is than everyone else due to his humility and spiritual enlightenment.
A bit ironic. Or not, since it's coming from the mouth of Joe Faggot Retard Rogan.
@plzenjoymybigolpenis even if that is true, which it really isn't, then at least he's got something to say for himself. he talks a lot of sense and does it in an entertaining way, that's rare.
@plzenjoymybigolpenis he is trying to seem unbiasede to all the idiot that believe him but you and me and some other people know he is biased..and have inacccurate or no facts
He says all this noble stuff yet he has the nerve to insult people for practicing Kung Fu. I bit hypocritical if you ask me. (That is unless he was joking about the Kung Fu remark.)
Joe is right on when he says: people who think highly of themselves and have inflated egos make shitty comedians. I wonder if that is why women aren't funny but put so much importance on a sense of humor?
MLKITCHEN, Joe is not talking about a physical betterness. Its not about "I have practiced Jiu Jitsu my whole life and you haven't therefore I am better than you." Its all about a mind set. People who think than are better than others because they have money or intellect or whatever makes them think that. The Dunning-Kruger effect is about knowing your abilities and using them to the fullest. It has nothing to do with flaunting your talents or saying you are better than someone else.
@MrDara31 Why is he a "junkie"? He's never been to rehab, does 2-3 podcasts a week, commentary for th UFC, and is one of the best headliners in comedy today.
Now how does that make him a junkie, or a disgrace?
To me he sounds like a very ambitious guy who works hard and provides a nice life for his family.
If you can back up your comment with some facts I'd be more than happy to debate it with you on an intelligent level.
"If you start thinking you are better than other people, you start having a distorted perception of yourself." - Joe Rogan.
How so? There are many Jiu Jitsu practitioners who are much than I am (clearly, as they can submit me). Do such individuals who recognize their ability over mine have a distorted perception of themselves?
You're almost touching upon the Dunning-Kruger effect -- look that one up!
To the respected Joe Rogan: The subject of Philosophy teaches people how to think and Psychology teaches people how the mind works. I'm a Philosophy major by the way.
@nlytend1 I'd say philosophy teaches a person how to learn and psychology teaches about human behavior. What do i know though i only graduated the 9th grade.
@Meeyaad so what? being high doesnt make you stupid.. in fact being high makes you think about things in very abstract ways. Your neurons fire like crazy and it leads to a rush of enlightenment.
@Goodcapcay Ya I dont like this guy as a person, he is only good at commentating MMA but its too bad he uses stupid Eddy Bravo terminology for BJJ moves. He thinks he is a wise saige who has all the answers to life and he lives for himself and his own gain and glory.
Joe might not practice wat he preaches but if people listen and take the positive it doesnt matter wat he does I talk to my younger bros about not doing dumb shit that I use to do n still do but but im speaking from experiance n to make them better
joe Rogan is one of those most arrogant people in the world. This entire video is BULL!!! Everything he says about prideful people who think highyl of themselves ctually applies to himself...he is delusional.
This is the same guy who thinks martial arts...REAL martial arts, not the sport of MMA, is a bunch of bunk...and goes on to talk shit on actual war based combat systems. Humble? Pfffft. Watch the clip "UFC Joe Rogan says that Wing Chun Kung Fu is ineffective and a waste of time!"
Best mount escape is to pull out your knife and stab them. Oh wait MMA doesn't alow weapons... Rogan talking about humility, is like Hitler talking about ethnic tolerance.
He's a flaming hypocrite who honks his fat ass-horn constantly, but refuses to put his own ass in the ring beause he knows he'll get pwned.
He's such feces that he draws flies.

FrettingCajarot 3 months ago

@MrMincer 100% agree. still very interesting to listen too, hes got some cool ideas.
Seannyskillz 3 months ago
@MrMincer If he was egotistical, he would never even bring up the concept of humility. At least he is not ignorant in that sense.
Dane333W 3 months ago
@MrMincer Well, he's not buddah and he's not saying he's got it all right. He's simply sharing his view on humbleness and how to be a positive human who contributes to the world. If you'll look up some excerpts from his podcast, you'll see that he constantly says that he doesn't have it all figured out, that he's not 100% on all there is to know in life.
co05 3 months ago
@MrMincer You're right. JR is still an angry , arrogant asshole. Always will be. His version of humility certainly ins't defined in any dictionary.
rrhynes 3 months ago
@MrMincer As a fellow person who is very introspective myself, there's a level of logic and questioning that we pursue that most people don't. And because of this deep soul-searching, it's hard to relate to others, because we perceive life a completely different way. We are unable to blindly submit ourselves to any sort of way of life that we were given...we know there's something more to it. So it's easy to see us as "thinking we know it all", when we question the efficacy of everything.
pathsounds 3 months ago

@MrMincer i dont agree. he just has some very strong opinions and is not afraid to speak pasionately about them. thats something we all could learn. when joe is discussing with another person with a strong opinion, they always end up with good arguments. and sometimes admit if they were wrong
people should just be able to speak their mind more strongly like joe, i think

there still are dealers in the streets and yes harddrugusers are a little more low now. but there are ALOT of weed users and losers that don't work, so that cost money for the gouverment that the people in the netherlands pay... and there are alot of people that want to stop that. there are more people smoking now than when it was iligal...

People who are confident and have the ability to portray thier true beliefs come off as egotistical, to someone who sits behing the internet and talk shit.
epicnova13 3 months ago
@MrMincer You know I actually have an opinion on this as well. Joe is an extremely intelligent person. But intelligence doesn't necessarily mean enlightenment. I think Joe is scared to completely let go. He's scared what it would do to his image. So he bashes Buddhism, and picks fun at Duncan when he tries to talk about it. But I think on some level Joe knows he's being naive. When he says stuff like "Buddha's life sucked, that's why he said life is suffering" that alone tells me he aint got it.
TheEternalunrest 2 months ago
@MrMincer and like you said, who knows. He may just not want to talk about it publicly a whole lot. He could be a Zen master for all I know. But he sure doesn't act like it on the podcast. It almost seems like now he's trying to distance himself from the idea. Last time Duncan was on they had a "fight" where Joe just kept making fun of Duncan's idea's about ego death. It's a risky career path to take. So I'd respect him even if he was purposely distancing himself from it.
TheEternalunrest 2 months ago
@MrMincer Yeah I think you're jumping to conclusions. Well your first statement is true, I wouldn't say his ego is "gone" and that he is in a state of full transcendence, haha...but, within it's construct to a good extent, he understands the meaning behind keeping it in check. That's important. I'll bet he's open to learning more...I doubt he just thinks he knows it all. Yes though, some people can use the "I am humble" as a way of just protecting their ego, haha..but, I don't think he doing it

@MrMincer I don't really know if your ego should completely be gone. You can lack so much ego that dickheads just walk all over you.
JNathanK2011 2 months ago
I'm not saying ego death shouldn't be a sought out experience. It can give good a perspective on things, but in day to day living, I don't know if you'd want to be completely free from ego.
JNathanK2011 2 months ago
@MrMincer Part of the reason why Joe sounds like he has it all figured out is that he accepts that he isn't perfect and he is going to have failures in life, things aren't always fair, there are people who are better at certain things. He accepts life for how it is, not saying he's the victim like so many occupy wall street people. He accepts and can handle the things in life he can't change. We can all learn something from this.
ineurodreams 2 months ago
@MrMincer he never said his ego has gone...he aint no Zen Master... he is just say in general its better to not be needy and egoistic but doesn't really go to a personal level on it

Joe is right on when he says: people who think highly of themselves and have inflated egos make shitty comedians. I wonder if that is why women aren't funny but put so much importance on a sense of humor?
cragmac1000 4 months ago
MLKITCHEN, Joe is not talking about a physical betterness. Its not about "I have practiced Jiu Jitsu my whole life and you haven't therefore I am better than you." Its all about a mind set. People who think than are better than others because they have money or intellect or whatever makes them think that. The Dunning-Kruger effect is about knowing your abilities and using them to the fullest. It has nothing to do with flaunting your talents or saying you are better than someone else.

Get this junkie off the tv. He is a disgrace
MrDara31 4 months ago
