  • Wouldn't the romans have only 10-20 marines on triremes like this? I am doing a latin project for my class I am a visual person so this helped thank you!

  • @dbfordateam Even though the Romans were capable of building very large ships, this one is a slight idealization. It is less of a ship for fighting than a ceremonial ship representing the strength of the empire, perhaps after the third Punic war.

    I'm glad it helped though!

I might be uploading some more similar videos some time soon, so stay tuned!

  • it isn't a ship it'sa castle

  • Hmm. It looks far too big. The oars looks very heavy. Although there may have been some ships like this they would be too heavy for good use. Pirates would rather sail away than fight this fortress. It also looked very tall and would have capsailed in big waves. I believe the romans would choose 2 smaller ships than 1 big. Some say that the reason Rome were so succsessful were the big number of men to waste. Not technology.

  • @einherje71 Very good points. Even though this ship is modeled after real ones, I did take some artistic liberties (such as making it rather high). I imagined this ship to be more of a slow floating fortress (as you say), designed to defend itself and transport a large amount of troops. You must admit, for fast transport of large military units this ship is ideal.
