  • Somebody help me please. How does the 2 stringed erhu replicate music written for a 4 stringed violin?

  • @1cleandude well erhu's string is longer than the violins so all u need to do is to bring your fingers higher or lower

  • @1cleandude transpose and shift a lot.

  • holy shit

  • First, WOW what a beautiful woman, Second, Eric Satie would love this piece and Third, WOW what beautiful woman that play the Erhu. Awesome!!!

  • Music beautiful

    Thank you

  • I'm glad that I am able to play erhu and would learn this song in the future :D

  • Watching this almost makes me wish my parents had gone back to China and raised me there, just so I could have one of these and learn how to play. ^.^

I'll just have to settle with mmy other instruments I suppose. TT.TT ^.^

The Erhu is one of my top favorite instruments along with the Chinese Guitar and makes me super proud to be Chinese. XD ~SpiritM

  • @SpiritMusician No you don't have to settle with something else if you want an Erhu. You can have and learn it wherever you are...: 1. there are Erhu players and teachers all over the world and it's not unlikely that you can find one somewhere near you... 2. if you can't, there's always this option: learnerhu (dot) com

  • Paganini, Wieniawski, Sarasate and Vieuxtemps rolled into one!

  • Certified Intergalactic! Intoxicating!

  • It's like Middle East meets the tango with a dash of Russian in the middle, and a pinch of other European classical composers all together with an Asian twist.

    :) Very awesome!

  • @XinksX cool but chinese music existed before all the cultures you have mentioned but thanks for the compliment and I am not even chinese.

  • If you like this, take at look at the same erhu player interpreting Liang Zhu "Butterfly Lovers"

  • oh she is so....so complete!.....

  • The story about Paganini continuing his concerto when strings snapped comes to mind. Incredible how many colours such a two string instrument can produce! And there's something of a Gipsy style in it as well. Interesting to say the least...

  • WoW

  • I Love The ErHu I can't wait till i get mine! SOOOO AWESOME

  • this is really good, though if you listen carefully it sounds more Latin than Chinese, maybe because of the scales they use here, I never thought Erhu could sound like this, it's astonishing=)

  • Why do people always bring politics into everything? Can't they just chill and enjoy the music?? Talk about politics somewhere else, not here.... ruined the mood

  • @Coolypan22 : In China, music and politics have been joined at the hip for 3000 years - or so I was told by an ethno-musicologist.

  • @Coolypan22 Because people are f***ing stupid and don't understand shut up and listen and experience a moment of brilliance.

  • That right... Enjoy the beautiful music!

  • People should stop talking about politics and just enjoy the music.

  • @pepperwright0 You're right, there were protests against the vietnam war in the 60's, there was also the Chicano movements black people movements, and that one asian movement against The Chinese exclusion act.

  • Amazing!

  • Beautiful!!

  • Astonishing!!

  • i am going to ignore the 10 something comment below and say that this video is awesome.

  • I am so happy that you see some good in us David, we are not so evil. Truly we are not.

  • Yes the wise will look beyond their own cultures for goodness also, for the greater good of humanity it is important to look beyond ones own culture, religion etc and find good in others also, there is much good ot there, it is not all bad, the Far East is not all bad, the West is not all bad, one only hs to take the time to look and view things in an unbiased manner is all.

  • I see good thing in the west. From Chaucer, Shakespeare, Donne, Spenser, Wordsworth, Colerdge, Blake, Tennyson, Newman, Arnold, Browning, Austen, Dickens, Hemmigway,Faulkner, Twain to Hawthorne and Melville. I read them all, page by page. The West is good; white folks are clean and well orgnized. The problems came when they tried to colonize the whole world and started wars in false pretenses and incites wars and riots, killing and mudering in the name of Christ, demcracy and civil rights.

  • to appapo3

  • I remember the first time I heard this instrument. I was 7-8yrs old when my dad bought this cd for our computer that holds a lot of exciting things. While browsing in the music department of the cd, I encountered this music, when I listened to it, clicking the button to listen... I was in pure awe. (O_O) awesome.

  • Its a childs mind thats open and without prejudice of preconcieved malarky.

  • o cmon thats not true lol

  • Chinese woman are so beautyful !

  • @Selbstorganisation that has nothing to do with music but she is pretty

  • Very beautiful!

  • 自由對所有中國,祝福偉大的希望中國

  • You are one of these with mind plluted by the west. Ken State University students were parading on campus against the war when national guards moved in and fired shots and killed students. China needs unity right now having gone through more than a hundred years of foreign invasions. Go to Iran to seek your freedom and leave China alone. We have enough freedom for good citizens!

  • A voice from the west, we are not the cause for all your problems, and it is irresponsible to say so. I do understand the need for unity as I am sure most Americans or westerners do. Has China ever invaded people, oppressed people, caused widespread trauma and pain? Do you contend that China is the only country to be lily white and all other countries are to blame? You are perpetuating hate. Is that your intention to despise me because I happen to live in a different country.

  • Continued, Instead of finding fault in other countries, perhaps you should think of the good things about the country, then perhaps you could create unity between all countries. I have never felt sadder and more upset in my life. I have always loved china for its history, courage and culture because I don't have a history or deep cultural heritage. It is quite a shock to realize that people in china don't see Americans in the same way. I wish you could at least value to people of my country.

  • I have loved this nation in my own way. I campaigned for President Obama day and night and made the maximum donation and went to D.C. to join the crowds in celebration.I am generous to everybody I know. In summer, my garden is open to all my friends. I work hard, think straight and help people in need. Good criticism helps improve the nation and the world. But I disagree the US troop should kill 2 million in Vietnam and 700,000 in Iraq for no good reasons at all! Somebody has to speak out!

  • People in the US regard Vietnam as a mistake, but please don't gloss over the 58,000 US soldiers who were killed in Vietnam. Tragedy's happen in every country and I agree you should speak out, but not in a way that disparages the entire country. There are very good things about this country. If there wasn't then, why would so many people want to come here? I think you should concentrate on giving people hope not discouraging them.

  • What did Vietnam do to USA to deserve 2 million deaths, aomng which were victims in OperationOrange by chemical weapeons which we charged Iraq of possessing. I was there 2 years and saw some war victims with no arms or legs due to the chemical poison which we used against them. We have wrongfully killed 58,000 of our own young people, most of whom were under 20 (see them at Washington Memorial). We have no right to kill them and our own soliders! Immigration numbers do not justify invasions.

  • You don't have to tell me all these things, I've been to history class. My father was drafted when he was 18 to go to Vietnam. Luckily the war ended or I wouldn't be here. Also, my grandfather and uncle fought in WWII. They both had trouble talking about it. I know all about that, but that is not something that the newer generation looks kindly on. We know the horrors of our own country, but that doesn't mean the whole country is bad. Its not right to punish people who had no say in the war.

  • I just thought I'd add, I'm only 22. Thus, I wasn't born when Vietnam happened. My brothers and sisters weren't born. We had no way of stopping Vietnam. What is the use of trying to make me ashamed of being an American when I wasn't alive the stop the fighting.

  • This is a great nation. Make no mistake about it! The nation is great because it has good citizens and good educational system and it strives for socail equity. But the war in Vietnam was a mistake. We can not just send troop all over the world and kill civilians. What causes justified war against Vietnam? Thse were taxpayers hard-earned money. Politicials had not right to spend it that way.

  • There was no justification for that war, and most people consider it a mistake. Thats what I was trying to say. Nobody's proud of what happened, so why should we be reminded of something we aren't happy or honored by. Just talking about it doesn't make the blight go away.

  • Because if we remember it the right way, wars like thi will not happen again! It is not a crime to talk about past mistakes. The common awareness of such atrocities without due causes must be kept alive as a lesson.

  • Tiannamen square comes to mind David, see this is what I am saying, you tend to gloss over things that are painful.

  • Dr. Hentry Kissenger said that the United States would not have tolerated Tienannmen Square Students under foreign instigations intended to use "democracy" to create riots to overthrow the government which was forced to act. All leaders were given American passports and some were even admitted to Harvard with secretary! If they were successful, we would not see today China as the economical growth engine of the world. We would see chaos and poverty and civil wars.

  • 在中國和平遊行的權利為我國在世界上的生命

  • very very beautiful

    I liked very much

  • Desire not uncommon; expression of such desire on a music forum is, however, not proper.

  • KhmerSerey1:

It's people like you who steal the beauty from the world.

  • She has really told this charm well!

  • her mind and body is like a story passed on to a Chinese erhu = this gorgeous combination of music and feelings hehehe enjoy

    SVT

  • such grace in handling the erhu...must be a master

  • Just fabulous this violin !!!

    Steven

  • Yeah, its amazing

  • Beautifoul!

    Karlos Gimenez

  • Such emotion. This is so beautiful.

  • i love how it looks so effortless...

  • At times during the close ups on her face its looks like the music is coming from her and not the instrument. Without opening her mouth music comes forth. It very relaxing as well.

  • very good! excellent performance! the song realli touches the heart

  • A lot of this reminds me of the Devil's Trill. I think it's beautiful. :)

  • great instrument and great artist....hahah it would be so funny that some1 now comes and says FAKE! cos of sound delay...as lamer usually do...

  • fake :D

no just kidding, this music is beautiful!

  • My god, this was so beautiful

  • that was awsome, very beautiful but, me beign me, at 2:06-2:10 It sounded like the Mexican song La cucaracha, but only that part, and no I'm not saying anything bad

  • I don't know...for me, I almost made me think of Hebrew, like ancient Egyptian times. Maybe they use the same musical scale...

  • The piece is inspired by Tian Shan (the Heaven Mountain), which is situated in Xinjiang (a province lying in West China). Hence the music has quite some middle eastern influence, as is the music culture of the Xinjiang natives.

  • They do actually use scales that have similar sounds; particularly the phrygian dominant scale (fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale), harmonic minor, Hindu b2 (I think it's the 2, I don't exactly use it on a daily basis, lol), and others in that vein.

  • I also know that song and I laughed when I heard that part LoL

But the song is amazing anyway. It really touches me.

  • la cucaracha :)

    Indeed! :)

  • influenced by Uyghur, not Dutch and german.

  • Amazing! It sounds like a mixture of Classic Violin, Balkans, Argentinian Tango and more ! :)

  • woah.

  • There must be some kind of violin arrangement of this omg, is there ??????????????

  • cud u not listen to it and then play?

i play this but... im crappyyyyyyy

  • Nope- that's all erhu music

  • i know its erhu music but maybe someone re-arranged its notes for the violin; it wouldnt be too hard with erhu having two strings, ill keep looking...

  • of course it's possible, of course it probably won't sound the same, they are different instrument after all, but just the same you can transpose music from a violin to a saxophone if you wanted. Again they may not sound exactly the same but erhu and violin are.... well closer than a trumpet and an erhu right? But without music and the like it's gonna be a little hard to do it by ear.

  • u could get the sheet music and transcribe...

  • thats insane, asians and there talents -.- aussie pride * cough *

  • where can i sign up to marry this woman?

  • after me lol

  • You mush learn Jung-Fu or Violin first :P

  • I play the ehru, and I didn't learned how to play the Jung-Fu or Violin first...
