  • Nice friend

  • Hello my friend what's the song at the begining ends at 40 seconds

  • Saw Ian Hunter last week. He KICKED ASS!!!! Played a two hour set. 71 years old!!

  • Does anyone know of a new documentary that's coming out? I saw something on Facebook, but could not access it....

  • God bless Mott the Hoople!

  • MICK RONSON PLAYED ON AIMEE-PURE PRARIE LEAGUE

  • Bono also has a sensitvity issue I think.

  • I can understand ppl wearing them for privacy issues, plus their eyes might be super sensitive to the light. Russ Ballard wears them because he is blind in one eye.

  • In the 70's I'd done 3 and 1/2 yrs in Approved School, bad place, and even when they let me go home for good in '79 I couldn't shake the feeling of having to go back. Then on NOV 22 1979 I went to my FIRST ever gig, aged 14, I got there, walked up the stairs to emerge out into the circle, and was so blown away by the ODEON that right there and then I knew I was free. Music had got me thru those 3 & 1/2 yrs and then that gig got me free of them. Ian was a rock star but to his fans he was human!!

  • second album was much underrated....i think Thunderback Ram is one of the greatest rock song

  • thanks...enjoyed

i had to dust off the secluded, yet adored name, mott the hoople mick ralphs recesses which branched into the mick ralphs bad company tributary

  • I saw this on DVD today from Netflix. There is hardly any commentary by the band members themselves. I would get bored just hearing "critics"" talking about me and me not speaking for myself. It's OK though, not real informative,

  • Keeps his ears warm..

  • @davehoward22 no really some ppl have had eye inuries like the guy in Kansas and the guy in Argent.

  • why does Ian Hunter wear sunglasses?

  • @janny108 he's an old dude

  • @dogsofwar007 he wore them as a younger dude too. But others have worn them too; Russ Ballard wears them but I think he may have been injured in the past.

  • @janny108 he once called his `shades` a `privacy mechanism` and also that he could`nt be seen looking down at the piano keys which he was still learning (he`d originally played bass)

  • Thank you for posting this!!

  • I am one of the biggest fans of Ian, Mick Ronson, MTH, Alex Harvey, and queen (for those that dont know, Queen opened for MTH)

We could argue money vs. love of music till the cows come home. Does it really matter? They gave us, and continue to give us, some really good memories. That's what it is all about.

Wished we had Mick Ronson back? Of course. But you cant. Enjoy these guys while you can. I met Ian many times. Super nice guy.

We are flying from Cleveland to London. Second row!!!

  • And you think Mick needs the money? After all those global #1 hits with Bad Company? A rule of thumb is that the band get roughly 50% of the gross... and pays their expenses out of that. Generally, only long tours make any real money.

  • Actually, I was NOT indicating in any way that the money was important either way. I am flying my family from Cleveland to London simply for the music.

I am completely neutral on the money issue, not being their accountant, I have no idea where they stand financially. Personally, it doesnt matter to me. I just love the band, the history, the music, and their influences.

Hope that answers your question :)

    Have a super day!

  • @cyberopbug it's hard to know what people spend their money on, it's not just how much you make, like making your own albums, divorce, stuff like that so who really knows who needs the money and who really doesn't?

  • Yes ... he needs the money.

  • I don't really care either but I want to know how you know this?

  • Mick Ronson .... Mick Ralphs!!

  • @cyberopbug I saw Queen and Mott in Kansas. I went to see Mott and an aquaintence in college told me that he was going to see Queen and showed me an album with Killer Queen on it. At that point, I thought, OK, Queen should be a good act too, but I loved Mott. I loved Queen after the show, and Mott was just as good. Different styles. It was treat all right. General admission, right up front.

  • @cyberopbug Hi, well I knew Queen opened for Mott on one US tour around 74. I saw Queen and Mott in KC, Kansas. It was General Admission, first come, pick your seat situation, & the crowd was allowed to build up to quite a swell outside the doors into the place. I was right up front & I learned how people can get crushed in a crowd. The doors to let everyone in opened outward & they could not get them open. With much effort they got open. I witnessed two iconic bands at their near peak.

  • I am Ian Hunter's biggest fan. But I wish he had said " I am doing this for the money". I have no problem with that.

  • So you actually think Hunter would do this after 35 years for, like, $50,000? Maybe one royalty cheque?

  • Do your homework. Ian has always seen this as "a job". ie. a means of not going back to the factory. He has complained for many years about "the business" and declining sales. He plays tiny venues in the UK. Yes. He is doing it for money. So what? I'm going to see it and I can't wait.

  • Actually, Hunter is financially secure from covers of his tunes. He's written 300 songs. Cleveland Rocks alone has probably made him a few hundred thousand. And you think he would do a Reunion for a paltry $50,000? Split 5 ways that's about all he'll get. He's doing it for fun.

  • well that is nice for him

  • pure rock n roll

  • Mott headlined a show I saw at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago in.. 1973? '74? Something like that. New York Dolls opened, then Aerosmith. Some jerk broke into the car and stole my reds.

  • Great Job! The live footage of Mott during this period is awesome. The reunion show is gonna rock!!!!!!

  • Reunion show? WHERE? WHEN? Arrgh! I am usually the last to know about these things....;>)

  • Oct 2009 London...1st ,2nd,3rd 5th 6th....tickets still available for the 5th and 6th....

  • I use to follow this band whenever they played London. Awesome trips

  • any word from anyone here on a recent film/documentary which was supposedly being made on Mott?...thanks much...

  • mick jones isn't even in the video!

  • Thanks for that enlightenment...and for the documentary...in terms of music appreciation You Tube has been fantastic.....Is there anything else out there you would recommend ???

  • Fantastic ....my first album ever was MOTT and my second album was THE HOOPLE...I'm staggered to realise that their albums (4 of them !!!) came BEFORE MOTT was released..the song ALL THE YOUNG DUDES being the wave on which the album surfed...hurrah for the visionary that is David Bowie.

I had tickets to see them in 1974 but the tour was cancelled because Ian Hunter had 'throat trouble'/exhuastion or some other 'lame rockstar' excuse.

I cried, as only a teenage boy can.

    Only regret ever

  • Hi Ben, I also had tickets for the 1974. In fact, the tour was cancelled 'cos MTH broke up on the eve of the tour.

  • ian hunter is a consummate rock star. i saw him play with mick ronson in 1981 and with todd rungren in '82(?) in support of john b. anderson, the independent presidental candidate. anybody else see this tour? i saw it at the agora club in youngstown,ohio...

  • Yeah saw that tour- It was in 1980 and I saw them in Boston at the Orpheum THeatre (Isn't the Agora in Cleveland?)- Ian was signing :Cleveland Rocks:" and the audience was singing "BOSTON ROCKS" - Ian was trying to correct the crowd to no avail...Ahh the good ol days!

  • Yea, I saw the tour with TODD. Saw it in Providence RI. A little disappointed, wanted more Hunter tunes, to many covers !

  • I've still gots *all* Mott's vinyl. "They wre 'dudes' from the word 'go.'" An important part of R&R hisory, yo.

  • The most underrated band of all time,I believe there is a movie being made about them.

  • @MottTheWot do you mean a documentary or a bi-opic

  • @MottTheWot This is the movie. Isn't it?

  • It's called The Ballad of Mott the Hoople

  • Nice package, David (9:12)! ;)

  • Ralph's the man BUT Ariel's playing WAS better on Mott the Hoople Live Anniversary Issue (1974) than any time in Mott's history imho...also Morgan, hung with you one night in Tokyo mate, around 1987 (I lived there many years - speak fluent Japanese)...Mott the Hoople is my favorite all-time r&r band of all-time as they absolutely ROCK live!...

  • Is that Overend at 06.58. Looks like him. as for Ariel/luther being better than Mick, you got to have seen the original line up to understand what a perfect combination they were. Luther is a great player but Mott were never the same after Ralpher left.

  • luther is wayyyy better than ralpher .. luther got asked 2 join the rollin stones but turned them down how many guitarest can brag about that rock godest from evesham my great uncle =]

  • I met Ian when he was still called Phil Norkin back in 59.

  • Bowie's A Hero

  • Great stuff on a great band. I saw MTH play L.A. in 71 or 72 at the first concert I ever went to and they were fantastic! They started being on TV alot, I wish those shows were available now. Over the years I've kept All The Young Dudes and Mott in fairly regular play and they still sound new. I've always believed that if Mick Ralphs had stayed they would have been one of the greatest bands ever. Bad Company were really good but Mott the Hoople had magic. No comparison.

  • I know I'm in a minority here, but I liked both Ariel Bender and Mick Ronson better in Mott The Hoople than Mick Ralphs.

And, I thought Bad Company was just a hair better than awful.

  • You know at the time, I did not like Bad Company, I had no idea for a while they were formerly with Mott. I agree with your comments. They were better together.

  • killer stuff. thank you.

  • This is why I love YouTube.

    Isn't Buffin the best? I mean...yeah.

  • I met him twice 70-71 and he was a true gent.

  • Great drummer who could swing.

Drummers are so often undercredited or ignored, when they are contributing an essential part of a band's sound and musical personality.

  • I agree. His drumming on their first album was so recognisable and unique. met him at the Roundhouse London and Wheely Festival in 71. See my mott memorys on my chanel here.

  • I agree, I loved Bill Legend on T-Rex, they were not the same without him. Bolan was a tightwad when paying his band memebers.

  • A drummer has 2 jobs.First and foremost keep time. Second, Keep out of everybody's way. If you can do that and still through a little something into the mix then you're a good drummer. Buffin knew that and dealt with it well.Mott was a collection of guys who knew their place. That's why I love them.

  • the golden age of rock and roll will never diiiiieeeee

  • Don't care - Keep A Knocking at Birmingham Kinetic Circus 1971 - was just IT.

Memories eh !!!! 53 now but who cares

  • I was lucky enough to get backstage at Wheely festival Aug 71 and met the band except for Ralpher who was otherwise engaged. Watched em from sidestage next to Rory Gallagher who was also a huge fan. Best night of my life. 54 now. golden age indeed

  • MORE PLEASE Ian still rocks like he just walked out of the studio from the DUDES LP I just hope all Mott fans still check out how much Ian has never lost the feel and voice of the Mott dayes - I hope there is somewaye to re-master even better the "Dudes" LP Bowie was a star for beinging them back but he didn't know what he was doing as a producer for them -even Lou's Transformer sounds like Mud

  • Very nice job of putting this together. Thanks for getting it out there. I really enjoyed seeing the live stage scenes, brought back some great memories.

  • Morgan Fisher of Mott here - just to say that this DVD doesn't include my *full* Super 8 footage - there is actually about 40 minutes in total, but only about 9 minutes are on the DVD. You can see the DVD footage on youtube by searching "Mott in America". Cheers! Morgan [morgan-fisherDOTcom]

  • Thank you for the advise on the additional Video

  • Ello Morgan, what a fantastic piano player you are ! Love that Jerry Lee Lewis type piano that Mott always used ! Followed you right through the LIONS. Question, is there any film footage of MOTT without the Hoople, and where will you be this October ? .... DRIVE ON !....ALAN

  • ianhunter dot com

  • Thank you for posting this, I have just posted a link up on the Ian Hunter main website, what is the 2nd part like?
