watched this movie on shrooms, the first time. jaw was dropped the entire time. watched it sober the next day. still jaw-dropping, breathtaking, amazingness. <3
does anybody know any movies that are similar to this like the never ending, this, the big fish, the labyrinths you know wears fantasy stuff were a person goes no a new world i would love to see another movie similar to this.
@moomoomoo7 You can try the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (or really any of Terry Gilliam's movies), Return to Oz, Pan's Labyrinth, Coraline, Amelie or City of Lost Children, The Fall... I'm sure I can think of a few others but its late. If you haven't watched those listed... watch them. But to be quite honest, there's not a lot that measures up to this movie. Dave Mckean has such a brilliant eye.
I was mesmerized by the music of this piece, and found a vague similarity between the visual style and stuff like Tool's videos. Imagine my surprise to find the film to be engaging and though simplistic in plotting very detailed and thoughtful in it's flourishes. Definitely worth a look.
This is so amazing. I can understand that not everyone will be able to appreciate this artwork, because we all have our own interests, but I personally adore this form of art... mesmerizing, makes me sleepy, love the music and you can get lost in the imagery.
Okayyyyyyy. I seem to be the only one who didn't watch this movie and think cinematic gold. It definitely wasn't bad, I'll give you that. But I didn't think it was all that good really. I like it's visual imagery and the look of this other world, but sometimes the story got me asking questions and the pacing was kinda bad. I thought this was an okay movie. I could see no harm in it, I'd watch it again if someone else put it in, but it's merely okay.
I don't know how i ever missed this one, but i watched this for the first time not long ago. It had been a long time since i'd seen a movie with imagination, which is one reason i really enjoyed it. For the most part, all that's come out of movies since 2002 have been remakes, redoux, and junk - which is why i ignore a mass amount of movies. I am very glad to have found this movie -
jeeez.........I wish I could have people get me ready that good just like-SNAP!-that! I don't even care if they're creepy mannequins..........just as long as they don't DO anything creepy.
I just noticed the creepy addition of the heart-shaped hole in the doll's "chest", I suppose you could call it. I especially love the added sound effects of stretching metal and springs given to the dolls while they move, it gives a very realistic effect of them being giant mannequins.
This really creeps me out. It is definitely symbolic of an illuminati mind control slave. The robots even have one eye covered (all seeing eye) and the girl is in a trance like state. She starts out in white clothes and then is clothed in black. The demon eyes show the transformation. If you don't know what I mean, google it
i like this movie. and i think they really know well about what young little kids draw...
they don't draw only a beautiful pink dress girl. actually, they draw very bizarre things if you try to make it as this movie. never tried thought lol.
This movie is visually astounding!! A feast for the eyes! I absolutely love Neil Gaiman's work! Always so incredibly beautiful! And, of course, the Jim Henson company...well, they've given us Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and this. I don't think I could give them a higher compliment.
@GagazPokerFace no you like lady gaga.jk well itwas by the guy who wrote the book for coraline and this movie is similar to it ITS WONDERFULL MAGICAL ASTONOSHING sftjuitg
"MirrorMask" It is a wonderful film. Not malicious and without a hint on sex a film. Stephanie Leonidas opens the has danced fine in this film better, roles in such films as "Rome" (2005-2007) to it do not go at all. Director Dave McKean big good fellow. It is necessary to create more than such films.
@Russianitro Cause violence is not malevolent, unlike sex. Oh, sorry. It IS a good film. But for slightly different reasons than that. I didn't WANT sex but that isnt what made the film good.
got to love jim henson.. well.. this is brian henson...his son.. still amazing. theve been trying to do a remake of the dark crystal for god knows how long.. brian is the one stopping them from doing it.. good for him. theres nothing wrong with the old one... "if it aint broke.. dont fix it"
i love how they never even tried to hide the fact that it was all in her head. no sugar coating or anything. She even admits several times that its her dream. Very refreshing. Plus it gives them free will to throw physics and logic to the wind and just create.
A gorgeous scene, one of my favorites in it's combination of its eerie remix of a classic, it's ghostly robotettes and their simple synchronized choreography and how they just hint at the final outcome with snatches of what's going on here and there. This film itself is a visual feast. Yum...the labyrinth, dark crystal and now this. Jim Henson's team just get better...We want more, please.
love that the company took a chance in making this film...different then what you would expect from the jim henson company...but then again...different is their norm.....no one else could have done it better.....

"Why do birds suddenly appear" Why indeed. "The bat that flits at close of eve
Has left the brain that won't believe.
The owl that calls upon the night
Speaks the unbeliever's fright." -William Blake
In context, the answer is insecurity.
