Guys, a better quality video is here: /watch?v=ZEccmg4JRbE
Also, this hit was absolutely devastating, as you will understand when you click on the link. Lucky for us, one of the poster in this video is nice enough to mention that this was Bob Stephenson, and Daydrian Taylor's last play in both of their respective careers. Neither ever played again. Both of them suffered under some sort of paralysis due to the damage to their neck and spine.
@GeneralofCarthage are you really taking it to school colors? grow up. scarlet is in the same phylum of color as maize. almost a primary color, but with a little more class. and OSU's other color is gray....so...ur dumb
@DamnWoah5 We have a freshman starting at QB, a rookie HC trying to do his job with both hands tied behind his back, and we lost our #1 receiver for basically the whole season... And we still could easily be 6-1, maybe 7-0 instead of 4-3... I'm not worried at all, we're in no danger of matching the RichRod years at scUM. Talk shit in 6 weeks when you finish 7-5, lost to OSU again, and D-Rob has tampons up his nose to stop the bleeding from another Buckeye beatdown. 2,893 days, enough said.
Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on O-H-I-O C'mon sing it with me fuckeye fan's. Verse 2 Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on O-H-N-O c'mon your not singing. Go BLUE BABY!!!!!
@singlechuck Have your fun talking crap, but come the Saturday after Thanksgiving, you and the rest of your ilk with be nursing the hangover of another ass kicking from the Scarlet and Gray. Nothing personal, that's just the way it is. So as of today it's been 2,834 days since you beat us. Are you trying to reach a decade straight of losses to us? Get bent, go blow.
seriously who ever calls this funny and that #80 got "owned" is inconsiderate...this hit could have paralyzed him from the contact helmet-to helmet hit. think about what u say before u type it.
@beatlemania95 this sport is called football, and football is not intended to be soft. That is why we have soccer, so that the people that don't want to get hit can play their own sports. Injuries and hard hits are part of the game, and the rules that prevent them are taking away from the game.
@jaybroff as a d-fines player i agree there are to many rules in a hard hitting fast pased game. I think the rules (the new ones) are getting more ppl hirt because they are second gessing there seves
I remember watching this hit on TV. If I remember correctly it was career ending for both players. I do not remember who they were though as I was pretty young.
Other than Tenn It's been well documented the SEC teams refuse to play the big 10 in OOC scheduling. Gloating about uneven bowl match up victories is the only thing the SEC seems to do well.
@Kryptkypr Yeah, Like Penn State beating LSU, and then every LSU SEC worm coming out of their hole whining like sissies about the field. Yeah, that's ownership-NOT!
dude i didnt know there were highlights of coach taylor at MICH. hes my coach at carrolton creekview.... man hes a beast cant wait to show him this.... but to bad it ended his career
The Penn State fullbacks name was Bob Stephenson, and he actually was not paralyzed. He was my high school athletic director and we was perfectly fine. Yes, he did not play again. The guy who hit him was put in a halo, but i believed he was taken out of it and is ok as well.
The penn state fullback, i forgot his name was paralyzed. did you see the everyone else get up. That was the senior fullbacks last play of his career. All you michigan haters can suck it. Does your team have the longest bowl game streak of nearly 4 decades or the most wins in college football? no because Michigan does! GO BLUE GO BIG TEN!!
I've been trying to find this vid for a while. Always tell my friends about it. They don't like to show this on Sportscenter and whatnot because at least one (maybe both) of them were paralyzed. Most violent hit I've ever seen in college football!
the only reason that is is because way back when in the 1890 yall had a football program whith only like 5 other teams to play against so i would hope they had a winning streak...
im sorry that youre 18-22 in bowls and we're 21-14. I'm sorry you're team hasn't beat a worthy opponent since god knows when and I'm really sorry you play in the sorry ass big 10. Big 10 with 11 teams. Yankees are so smart.
Maybe because the Big Ten is over 100 years old and tradition outweighs what other morons like you think, and I'm also sorry that the ACC was rated the fifth worst BCS conference behind the Big Ten by two places, because of our #1 difficult OOC schedule, to the SEC"s worst rated, and we came out on top of the win/loss in the entire NCAA.
I'll take our Seven National Titles, to Florida State's two, I'll also take our 4-3 in the BCS to FSU's 1-5, LMFAO!
last time we played we beat you guys. and the only team you played OOC worth anything was USC who raped your sorry asses. and the ratings are B.S. because all they do is look at how good your teams are doing. PSU OSU come on man so over rated.
Both of which are a better school than FSU academically and athletically, PSU has a great bowl record of 2613-2 and both of us constantly put out great players into the NFL.
B.S Ratings. LMFAO the Big Ten has THE HARDEST OOC schedule than ANY OTHER BCS Conference, and we STILL came out on top, even AFTER the bowl losses, in which we were SUPPOSED to do bad, but the teams ended up making the games a fight, especially Northwestern. Even when the referees hand Texas the game on a silver platter.
lololololololololololololol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! youre OOC is a joke. give me a freakin break dude. point fingers all you want but you suck. you can't tell me that FSU hasnt put out great players. and i'll take another good team from our conf. how bout the U. dont even attempt to compare youre NFL players to FSU's or Miami's.
No but you're talkin about PSU and all of your pointless facts so I'll through some your way. Early this century? Leon Washington, Ernie Sims, Greg Jones. Who has the Ohio State U put out in the last 5 years that's worth a damn? Who was on your OOC this year? You can even include your bowl game. And I'm not a redneck you dumbass yankee.
i hate ohio state but i have to give it to this OSU kid. Big ten OOC is amazing. We really challenge our schedules. The U has sucked since OSU beat them in '03. FSU is GARBAGE. Penn state beat them in the orange bowl in 05 and i havent heard a peep from them since. They havent put out anyone in the last few years. OSU got malcom jenkins, james laurinitis, troy smith, anthony gonzalez, ted ginn jr, vernon gholston, marcus freeman. and this all is coming from a penn state fan.
Florida State was good late in 2005, but other than that they have sucked. Remember, we can't schedule the week before the season starts. It's not like NCAA Football the videogame where UMass can become I-A, schedule powerhouses, and beat them all by scores like 47-14. And although Penn State's recruiting was subpar, it's getting better. Don't forget, though, Deon Butler and Jordan Norwood were one star recruits, but played better than that Primo Uomo five star Pryor hotshot is playing.
@jpearson311 are u a michigan fan? I dont hate michigan to be honest.. i actually hate OSU which we mutually do. But just to throw that out there.. ... i dont want to hear ANY smack talk from ANY michigan fan right now. Climb out of the bottom half of the Big Ten ladder than talk. Hows Rich Rod doing for you guys? Missing lloyd carr yet? sorry tate forcier is not the future.
@jpearson311 okay this truly shows how stupid OSU fans are.. i just complimented draft picks from YOUR institution and your still have the audacity to insult us.. heyy heyy yo.. what do you call an OSU alum at your front door step??? ... give up? .. the pizza guy.
@SlowYourRole09 - Dude I don't know what you're talking about. Are you a Penn St. fan? I wasn't replying to anything your wrote before. I didn't even know you were complimenting our draft picks. And as a matter of fact, I don't even know why you wrote what you wrote in the first place. I replied to Buraq1108 just to let him know that OSU owns Penn St. ;)
@jpearson311 I-O u an apology. SlowYourRole09 = Buraq1108. I changed to this accnt since youtube synced accnts with google and stuff. And yes i did compliment your football team. But your school sucks. Im assuming you went there cause its not that tough to get in.. my dog could get into that school. ..Hey what did one OSU alum say to another? "Welcome to McDonalds. May I take your order?"
@SlowYourRole09 - I didn't go to Ohio State, but my Mom, Dad and Brother all went there. I don't know what you're talking about academically. Their standards get harder and harder every year. I've heard of people not getting accepted with above 3.0 GPAs. Oh and just so you know, my Mom is a PHD Psychologist, my Dad is Vet that graduated Magna Cum Laude from OSU Vet School and my brother is a successful business man that lives out of the country so suck it.
@jpearson311 i feel bad actually about OSU. You heard the library burnt down to the ground? All FIVE books were completely destroyed. And the football team was so pissed because they didnt get to finish coloring in two of them!
@SlowYourRole09 - Where do you come up with this shit, seriously. Nevertheless, see you in the BCS title game this year. And they'll all graduate 16 weeks after.
@jpearson311 you know what? I hope you DO make it to the BCS title game because I have conference pride.. this time dont get freaking owned by an SEC team mmkk??
I'd have to say that the 1997 Penn State team is one of the biggest disappointments ever. Only good win was over Ohio State. It really hurts to say it, but it's the truth, Penn State was overrated that year becaues of the success of the 1996 season. Not only were they blown out by Michigan, but a few games later they were humiliated by a bad Michigan State team and had their asses handed to them by Florida. Sad to say, but I think they shouldn't have even been ranked at the end.
I think the 2000 game at Ohio State was a bigger blowout. They racked up 45 points on us, allowing us 6 garbage time points. What made that sting even worse, is that they were a pathetic 8-4 team that year. That's a game I'd love to forget even happened.
bigger blowout? yes. worse performance in a big spot no, this loss to Michigan in 97 was the worst game and performance a penn state team ever had not so much by score but by the way it played,
To be honest, I think that close Minnesota game where we only won 16-15 was when we started to unravel. The performance in the Michigan game was pretty bad, but more a result of what happened for the previous two weeks. After that Michigan game, things really started to fall apart, capped with a drubbing by Michigan State and a loss in the Citrus Bowl. The worst part of this is that it began a nine year skid to Michigan.
and that was the week aaron harris injured his knee, when Aaron harris tore up his knee the season itself got torn up, Penn State would not have collapsed to the extent that they did if Aaron hARRIS does not get hurt,
Where would the Alan Branch hit that knocked out Morelli in 2006 rank? Amazingly, that hit wasn't one of the seven official sacks, because he'd already completed the pass, but I'm sure Michigan hit the PSU quarterbacks at least two dozen times.
Shazor and Curry turned Dorien Bryant into a Boilmaker sandwich. That was so sweet. i miss Shazor. he was a 1st team All american, could hit like a beast, was an underrated pass defender, and always racked up lots of tackles. Shazor was amazing. Our defense really could ahve used him in his senior season of 2005, but he had to go pro early.
Oh, and in addition to Shazors hit and forced fumble, there's also Leon hall getting recovering the ball just before it goes out of bounds!
Nope, both were just knocked out. I do know that the entire Penn State sideline was just staring slack jawed for about a minute after this. That hit set the tone and Michigan dominated from there.
This hit totally changed the game. Penn State was #1 at the time , Michigan #2. This hit was on the Penn State sideline and the Penn State players did not want to play anymore after seeing Michigan's defense at work. Michigan 34 Penn State 7.
Michigan's defender also got knocked out too. Penn State is not a team to just throw in the towel (later in 2006 two QBs were knocked out and they were held to -14 rushing yards, but still played the game to win). They just simply got outplayed and outcoached 34-8 in this 1997 clash of the titans. But after that loss, since Michigan was a great team, Penn State only dropped to #6, then at the end of the season was blown out by Michigan State, then somehow lost to Florida in the Citrus Bowl.
Actually Michigan was #4 and Penn State was #3, they were both knocked out but that hit had the entire Penn State sideline staring in disbelief, it sent the message loud and clear that Michigan's D wasn't taking shit from anyone. I'd say it's a huge credit to how amped Michigan was for this game that he knocked himself out he hit him so hard.
The just had a feature on this guy in this U of M sports magazine called the Wolverine. Taylor was a junior at the time. Both players careers ended as a result of this play.
they had a special about this hit on ESPN some years ago. The Michigan player hurt his neck on that play and never played again. The Penn State tightend just turned into a straight pussy and quit the team after that game....
the comment above makes it sound like he is mentally challenged or something...???? He was interviewed during the ESPN special and he sounded fine to me.
Just saw the preview to "Perfect Effort" about De La Salle's 12 year winning streak. It looks like a pretty inspirational movie. Search for it on youtube or it's website perfecteffort (dot) com
The Penn. State guy is definitely the one that got "owned." It's a bit deceiving cuz he rolled on top of the Michigan player at the end, but he definitely took more of the hit. Anyway, that being said, I'm sure they were both in a world of pain after that one.

SlowYourRole09 1 year ago
@SlowYourRole09 - I didn't go to Ohio State, but my Mom, Dad and Brother all went there. I don't know what you're talking about academically. Their standards get harder and harder every year. I've heard of people not getting accepted with above 3.0 GPAs. Oh and just so you know, my Mom is a PHD Psychologist, my Dad is Vet that graduated Magna Cum Laude from OSU Vet School and my brother is a successful business man that lives out of the country so suck it.
jpearson311 1 year ago
@jpearson311 i feel bad actually about OSU. You heard the library burnt down to the ground? All FIVE books were completely destroyed. And the football team was so pissed because they didnt get to finish coloring in two of them!
SlowYourRole09 1 year ago 2
@SlowYourRole09 - Where do you come up with this shit, seriously. Nevertheless, see you in the BCS title game this year. And they'll all graduate 16 weeks after.
jpearson311 1 year ago

MVillani1985 3 years ago
both careers ended on that hit as a penn state fan as must say that this was the biggest butt whipping penn state ever had agghh
psu68born 3 years ago 2
I think the 2000 game at Ohio State was a bigger blowout. They racked up 45 points on us, allowing us 6 garbage time points. What made that sting even worse, is that they were a pathetic 8-4 team that year. That's a game I'd love to forget even happened.
MVillani1985 3 years ago
bigger blowout? yes. worse performance in a big spot no, this loss to Michigan in 97 was the worst game and performance a penn state team ever had not so much by score but by the way it played,
psu68born 3 years ago
To be honest, I think that close Minnesota game where we only won 16-15 was when we started to unravel. The performance in the Michigan game was pretty bad, but more a result of what happened for the previous two weeks. After that Michigan game, things really started to fall apart, capped with a drubbing by Michigan State and a loss in the Citrus Bowl. The worst part of this is that it began a nine year skid to Michigan.
MVillani1985 3 years ago
and that was the week aaron harris injured his knee, when Aaron harris tore up his knee the season itself got torn up, Penn State would not have collapsed to the extent that they did if Aaron hARRIS does not get hurt,
psu68born 3 years ago
that hit by Dadrian Taylor ended his career....UM went on to kill #2 PSU 38-9 in that game and on to win the National Championship. The year was 1997

the top 5 hits I've seen by a Michigan Wolverine:
1. Ernest Shazors hit against Purdue in 2004
2. This one
3. Charles Woodsons hit against Baylor in 1997
4. Chris Grahams hit against Michigan State in 2007
5. LaMarr Woodleys hit against Iowa in 2006
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
Where would the Alan Branch hit that knocked out Morelli in 2006 rank? Amazingly, that hit wasn't one of the seven official sacks, because he'd already completed the pass, but I'm sure Michigan hit the PSU quarterbacks at least two dozen times.
MVillani1985 3 years ago
Hmm, Branch's hit might have been better then Woodley's hit, i guess. There's also Shawn Crables hit against Brady Quinn in 2006.
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
Ernest Shazors hit was sick as shit, when he hit that guy in midair after marcus curry hit him and makes em fumble, great hit.
TRUxMAGGOTx 3 years ago
Shazor and Curry turned Dorien Bryant into a Boilmaker sandwich. That was so sweet. i miss Shazor. he was a 1st team All american, could hit like a beast, was an underrated pass defender, and always racked up lots of tackles. Shazor was amazing. Our defense really could ahve used him in his senior season of 2005, but he had to go pro early.
Oh, and in addition to Shazors hit and forced fumble, there's also Leon hall getting recovering the ball just before it goes out of bounds!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
pretty sure this collision ended at least one of these players careers.
Nolimits2022 3 years ago
Nope, both were just knocked out. I do know that the entire Penn State sideline was just staring slack jawed for about a minute after this. That hit set the tone and Michigan dominated from there.
matt61387 3 years ago
The 1997 Penn State team pretty much imploded after this game, getting blown out by Michigan State, then Florida.
MVillani1985 3 years ago
I dont know if its the bad video quality or something else but i dont know where that defender came from. Anyway, Go Blue!!!!!!!

This hit totally changed the game. Penn State was #1 at the time , Michigan #2. This hit was on the Penn State sideline and the Penn State players did not want to play anymore after seeing Michigan's defense at work. Michigan 34 Penn State 7.
Ledhead323 3 years ago
Michigan's defender also got knocked out too. Penn State is not a team to just throw in the towel (later in 2006 two QBs were knocked out and they were held to -14 rushing yards, but still played the game to win). They just simply got outplayed and outcoached 34-8 in this 1997 clash of the titans. But after that loss, since Michigan was a great team, Penn State only dropped to #6, then at the end of the season was blown out by Michigan State, then somehow lost to Florida in the Citrus Bowl.
MVillani1985 3 years ago
Actually Michigan was #4 and Penn State was #3, they were both knocked out but that hit had the entire Penn State sideline staring in disbelief, it sent the message loud and clear that Michigan's D wasn't taking shit from anyone. I'd say it's a huge credit to how amped Michigan was for this game that he knocked himself out he hit him so hard.

It was Draydrion Taylor, a safety whom I believe was a senior that year. He was substituting for either Marcus Ray or Tommy hendricks on this play.

they had a special about this hit on ESPN some years ago. The Michigan player hurt his neck on that play and never played again. The Penn State tightend just turned into a straight pussy and quit the team after that game....

The Penn. State guy is definitely the one that got "owned." It's a bit deceiving cuz he rolled on top of the Michigan player at the end, but he definitely took more of the hit. Anyway, that being said, I'm sure they were both in a world of pain after that one.
