Last funny thing, they are comparing "MIXED MARTIAL ARTS" to Taekwondo, and saying that in "MIXED" martial arts they go to the ground.... I mean duh it's "mixed"..... They are talking like if "mixed martial arts" were a "type" of martial arts..
HAHAHAHAHHA another ignorant. Listen to me, I'll teach you something: The things you see in MMA are 40% of the thecnics allowed by a martial arts. In the street, a karateka a taekwondoist and person that practice Ju-jitsu and ETC will use the other 60%, it's "deadly", they want to finish the fight on the first 2 SHOTS. If you ONLY "train for MMA", you will NOT be able to do this on the street. Your ONLY luck is to find a "weak" opponent in the street". A REAL martial artist in the street =LETHAL
Bull shit these guys are just as lethal you throw a strike you get taken down you go for a take down you get a knee they know everything you know then more I am not a Great MMA fighter by any means a amateur at best but I have beaten a black belt in taekwondo before in under 30 seconds just with my wrestling backround alone besides if your about deadliest martial art that would 9/10 be whoever had there gun out first then everything you know goes out the window if there more then 5 feet from you
now go back to training and "learn about martial arts RULES IN THE STREET", and then come back here complaining. Other than that, just don't say anything. What you see in this cage are "codified" fight. In the street it's another thing, I will easily crunsh your eyes and more. You have NO IDEA what you are talking believe me, you have NO IDEA. MMA = 40% of a REAL martial arts thecnics.
you want to know how karate is? Watch GEORGE ST PIERRE, when he's not fighting on the ground, he's doing EXACTLY what we show to student how to "kick or punch or block" in a karate school. George St Pierre however will be extremely LETHAL in the street, as he will use the "illegal mouvement that was canceled in MMA fight", to finish the oponent on the first or second shot. That is what you need to understand. A MARTIAL ARTIST may NOT WANT to fight in a "MMA FIGHT", but in the street, he's RDY.
well yes that is kinda what I meant. You see, despite what most people thinks here, I'm not here to say "MMA suck", or something.(In fact if you read ALL my posts, there was no such type of comments). So I don't know why some people here feel offended. What I was saying is, in the "street", a martial artist don't want to fight for 15 min, wich punch and kicks "just to hurt"....he want to FINISH the fight as soon as possible. It's a "different mentality", compared to a fight during a "show on tv"
For example I respect boxers. But their "mentality" and the mentality of a martial artist is different. Boxers will mostly just hit you to hurt, and if they are lucky or if the oponent is very tired there will be a KO. In their MIND, there's no STRONG DESIRE to finish the fight after the 2 first shot. In the street, a martial artist want this. If you watch the other episode of fight science, they will say it, the "one punch KO, does exist", and it's not from boxers.
And for sure, in the street, you are NOT supposed to see 2 martial artist fight.... so yes you will probably fight with someone that don't know how to fight, but thinks that he/she's tough. The mentality all martial artists should have, and this is what we tell to everyone that practice karate is "There is no first attack". That means, in the street, 2 people practicing martial arts, none of them will provoke the other. You will never see 2 martial artist that know their art, fight in the street
Yes you are right. If someone want to learn martial art to proove "himself " something, that's ok, I guess he gonna learn to surpass himself and that is good. However, if he learn martial arts, to proove to other people that's he's tough in the street, I can garantee you that he's NOT going to last long. Why? Becayse every fighter knows that "when you start to underestimate your oponent", you are the one in danger. A real martial artist, that know his art, will not fight in the street randomly.
I was not talking about real tough guys vs real tough guys in the street btw.(I don't even know the definition of "real tough guys;) ). I was talking about a martial artists, that follow the rules of martial arts. Every martial artists have learned that they should never ever start an attack in the street, and they should not underestimate their opponent. That means, in the street, you will NEVER SEE two martial artists fight against each others, unless it's a competition, where there are rules.
Kyokushin karate = no protections at all, not even gloves. Watch out. Also do you read me carefully? You are talking about boxers, boxe is NOT A MARTIAL ART. Do you even practice any martial art? What's your experience in martial art? I'll repeat what I've said: Someone that PRACTICE martial art... will NEVER attack someone in the street. You will never see someone who practice martial art, fight against each others in the street. Never ever. Because we teach them, to never provoke a fight.
lol my friend sorry, I don't think I'll stay here to debate about this lol. I think I,ve posted what I have to post. If you saw 2 boxers fight in the street, that is good. But you will never see 2 martial artists fight in the street. And NO boxing is not a martial art. I'm not the one saying it, the WORLD knows it. It's funny to see that you did not knew it, but you are trying to debate about martial arts with me.... Boxing is a simple sport combat. Please search the definition of martial arts.
Boxing is called a "combat sport". The concept combat sport is distinct from martial art, even if certain disciplines presents the two facets. A martial art is by definition a art of war, a discipline or all is allowed and where the goal is often to kill. Because of his potential dangerosity, the study of martial art in general is very posed and it is impossible to organize competitions except after making some rules to make it looks like a combat sport. I really hope you learned something.
The difference with martial arts is that the technique self-defence gives the capacity of knowing to really fight neither nor in sporting context but rather to know fundamental gestures of survival in case of aggression. Anyway like I said, ask your teachers, I can't explain you everything here. So bye bye, unless you want to add me on msn. Good luck.
btw I asked you what martial art you practiced, you put wrestling and boxing and MMA. Oh god lol, anyway I forgive you man, but you need to search what a martial art is please. Ask your teachers seriously. "MMA" is not a martial art. Wrestling and boxing are not. Jiu Jitsu is a martial art. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact ""combat sport "" that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a ""mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions"", to be used in "competitions".
Boxing and wrestling ARE martial arts. Look it up in the dictionary. From merriam-websters dictionary: any of several arts of combat and self defense (as karate and judo) that are widely practiced as sport. Martial arts is not just oriental, unless you believe in the eastern asian ideology.
@Honor1104 eh boxing you definitely can defend yourself, but it is pretty incomplete to other martial arts. I dont consider it a martial art either and im a boxer. i guess you can just consider it a fighting style? that seems to be the best way to describe it since it teaches you how to throw punches correctly, certain combinations, and a specific defence
(Dont take any of my message, the wrong way. Not trying to insult you.) But what martial art do you practice? "MMA" is not a "martial arts TYPE", it's "many martial arts mixed together". That's why the name "MMA". MMA does not have his "own" thecniques, they take their thecniques from other martial arts, that's why it's not considered as "A martial arts BY HIMSELF". What martial art you practiced before starting MMA? You seems that you don't know the moral behind martial arts.
Anyway, I think you are the only one here that understand what I was saying. Some other people here felt like I was talking "against" MMA, wich is not true. I was saying the "mentalitty" of a martial artist in the street, is not the same during a "show". In the street, they wont lose their time with punch and kick just to hurt yourself. They will hit you like if their attack was their LAST BULLET. No need to mention that in MMA you use protection, in Kyokushin karate there are NO PROTECTIONS.
MMA guy are strong, and I know what I'm talking because I like George St-Pierre. But in the street, you'll hit the punch with no gloves, and etc. What I've learned, and what respectable MMA fighter learned is that: It's not what the martial arts the guy that will make him the winner, but it's the fighter himself. Despite the common believe, MMA is not wich is the "best art", simply because it's called "mixed martial arts", it's mixed.
You seems to think that a "fighting sport" is a martial arts lol. It's sad, that you don't even know what a martial art is. Don't take it bad, many people are like you. Please make a litle research on the net on trusted websites, or ask your Sensei's(your teachers), they will tell you what a martial art is. See you again and good luck.
There are two optics, martial arts and combat sport are basically different but historically bound and were often supplemented.(I gave the example, of putting rules in competitions because a martial art is too dangerous. By putting rules, a martial arts START to look like a COMBAT SPORT. But in the STREET, it's another story). In the Asian countries, the training of a martial art was carried out for a confrontation vis-a-vis an attacker.
in my opinion ....this is the ultimate fighting style ....combines ALL fighting styles and there is no set way you should fight.....Bruce lee would be proud...this is what he preached about fighting styles...u should have nun
not only that the traditional art have more space movement like high jumps in fight also the flexibilty helps tradtional martial artist wont get lock easily with speed the mma should focus the flexibilty as well and speed because the traditonal look faster and stronger that can confuse the MMA opponent the MMA just like chinese Leitai comp in ancient time without rules in china till 1921 they band it

your absolutely right anything used as self defense or offense for fighting is a martial-art
redsmurf02 2 years ago
this dictionary is only half right...martial arts aren't just forms of combat used for sport...hence..they wouldn't be called "arts"...
martial arts emphasizes on DESTROYING the body (and sometimes healing it) and not just hurting it..
for instance..look at ninjitsu..the art of killing... not much of a sport...
however, boxing and wrestling are mere forms of combat...yet are very effective. Altho..they are sports..not arts.
Honor1104 2 years ago
They're still considered arts.
dips3t20 2 years ago
okayy... i don't mean to argue or anything here..but please explain why u think so..
because i'll be honest here...i've always learned that boxing is too incomplete to be considered a martial art...and wrestling as well.
i've been taught that the goal in the boxing is to knock out the other guy, and in wrestling..to take down the other guy..
whereas in other martial arts..the goal is to teach u how to protect and defend urself
but that's just what i've been taught...not my actual opinion..
Honor1104 2 years ago
why get confused over labels. Whoever wins wins. if it is called a martial art, or a liberal art, if it works, it works.
