@Mi436 Actually, Keaton trained for three months with martial arts and kick boxing for the role. This is a well known fact for bat-fans, especially of the '89 film.Check out the interview he gave back in 89 to either Premiere magazine or Starlog.
@TheRavishingRuss Bale did not go up against him, he just took on 6 thugs at the same time in a Chinese prison with no Batsuit or gadgets. I didn't see any CGI in that scene. Funny we never see Keaton fight without his Batsuit, wonder why.......

If Indian Jones or John Mclane can take a good beating, I'm sure Batman can. Bruce Wayne's abilities are his intelligence and martial art skills, he doesn't need to be built like The Hulk and have a full head of hair to be Batman.
The only part of the movie I disagreed with, that black dude kicking batmans ass, no henchman can go toe to toe with batman. Only the main villains could put up a decent fight, and then they'd still get outsmarted and whipped. I get that batman was in a plane crash, but come on!

I'm glad to see that Bob the Goon gets some recognition nowadays, but that black guy is also awesome! I think all the Joker goons deserve a spot in the pantheon of classic henchmen. The others might've not gotten to kick that much ass, but at least they failed in magnificent ways, like that guy at 0:53.

I mean he totally would have killed one of those two robbers at the beginning of the film, dropping right off the edge of that building, except that that one was more useful alive at that moment, to tell his degenrate pals all about "The Bat, man!" that was then just beginning to sweep all the crap out of crime-ridden Gotham City.

Does anyone find it strange that there is a man dressed as a bat fighting some goons in a cathedral while a clown dances with a young woman but everyone is concetrating on the fact that the fight itself is weird?
I always found it strange how Batman's armor allows him to take bullets, when in this scene, that thug can seriously hurt him by punching him in the stomach.
@TruMorbid The armor helps him survive gunshots and keeps the bullets from entering his body, but getting shot still hurts like hell. If you'll remember the beginning of the film, he got knocked flat on his ass by two gunshots.
Batman was a very skilled fighter with a suit of armour. But in the end, he was human with no magic or super hero powers. There will always be someone tougher....in this case the thug. Batman had to use a little cunning to defeat him.

I always hated and loved this fight as a kid. "Why is batman getting beaten!" But it also shows he is still human. And not even batman can stand against a plane crash+explosion, and climbing those massive stairs. The kick batman gave didnt even phase the goon.
