  • A genius at his best - and a beautiful tribute to Wes at 3:57

  • It still is amazing to more how he can string endless lines together so harmonically rich......and he could do it when he was 15. As all the greats, he hears on another level!

  • slapit5: It's Mac Tough

  • what´s the name of the song?

  • @slapit5 It's Mac Tough.

  • im no great player but it seems like hearing this guys recordings is a waste of time compared to hearing and seeing him live.just my opinion.

  • @blingmaster - So correct

  • Beautiful. I cant beleive his control of tension and feel. The best of both worlds.

  • GEEZ, that's really killin. Love the concentration on all players.

  • FANTASTIC IS PAT MARTINO !

  • Great playing!

  • Man... I love @ 2:44 when the drummer THROWS himself on top of the meter during that lick. Which brings me to my subject:

It occurs frequently that people will dicuss the beauty and the art of a soloist. It's rare that people talk about how good the group is at complimenting the soloist...

THAT is an art that is equally important in the overall 'sound of jazz'.

  • True that. Its the canavas the painter uses to convey his art.Not to mention it is what gauges his spontaneuos reaction.

  • @BlingMasterFunk Totally right and a critical point...thanks for bringing it up...I played with Jon Lucien and his brother Eric (bass and drums) for four years (mid-80's)...ANYTHING I played would have sounded great with these guys setting the stage and holding me to a point of honesty in my playing...what did Jaco say ? women & rhythm section first...

  • he is old but his mind is still young :)

  • Correct, with jazz playing the grey cells are always in top form working, no time to grow old,the most demanding Art form there is,greets Vic.

  • It's nearly 35 years since I first heard Pat, and he's still amazing. I can't imagine what goes on in the head of the few people who can play at this level when they're doing it. But there sure must've been a lot of hard work along the way.

  • LoL makes it happen.

  • Crummy audio quality. Beautiful playing though, which makes up for it.

Oh man if only there was a good recording to go with this video!

  • great video! thanks!
