It still is amazing to more how he can string endless lines together so harmonically rich......and he could do it when he was 15. As all the greats, he hears on another level!
@bmaniac1 Between 1555 and 1931 the Jesuit Order was expelled from at least 83 countries, city states and cities, for engaging in political intrigue and subversion plots against the welfare of the state, according to the records of a Jesuit priest of repute(Thomas J. Campbell).-J.E.C. Shepard

It occurs frequently that people will dicuss the beauty and the art of a soloist. It's rare that people talk about how good the group is at complimenting the soloist...
THAT is an art that is equally important in the overall 'sound of jazz'.
@BlingMasterFunk Totally right and a critical point...thanks for bringing it up...I played with Jon Lucien and his brother Eric (bass and drums) for four years (mid-80's)...ANYTHING I played would have sounded great with these guys setting the stage and holding me to a point of honesty in my playing...what did Jaco say ? women & rhythm section first...

It's nearly 35 years since I first heard Pat, and he's still amazing. I can't imagine what goes on in the head of the few people who can play at this level when they're doing it. But there sure must've been a lot of hard work along the way.
A genius at his best - and a beautiful tribute to Wes at 3:57
