@sidivephilippines Not only that it was banned by the BBC and this was in the times when the only music shows were Top of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test, so the song got very little publicity plus they weren't very well known (they later did appear on the OGWT but the song had already reached no.1 by that stage)
i remember listening to this song when i was a young kid and used to sing along and not thinking or even no what the lyrics mean well now i do and its true WAY TOO MUCH TO YOUNG :/
I don't get why the older generation seem to think that teenagers today are completely uneducated when it comes to music. I'm 15 and my favourite bands are The Specials, Madness and The Beatles. Just because we're young doesn't mean we can't appreciate good music.
@sedg166 dont worry, the corporations have had their turn, and they have mucked it up so bad, they are now going extinct. soon they will only be an unpleasant memory, much like lava lamps and plastic, fantastic leisure suits.
Please could you check out my other channel /WetLevMusic
We are a Ska band from Cov/Nuneaton we only have a instrumental song on their at the moment but should have more soon enough, we also do the song Rat race (and we have a song called Rat Race too :/)
If you are too young to never have been to a Specials concert (especially back in the early 80's) then you missed out on the best live band ever and being part of the audience at a Specials concert is something you never forget... :-)
To really get a feel for just how great these concerts and the atmosphere at them was, try and get a hold of the movie "Dance Craze", it's 90 mins of live concert footage of all the great Ska bands of the era and is simply magic... :-)
@GtbannaNY i'm pretty sure it may have something to do with the fact that he's like 5 years younger than the rest of the band and is probably nervous?
It's obvious your too young and weren't around in 79 and the early 80's when The Specials were at their height.
Terry Hall (the guy your talking about) was very deliberate about how he appeared on stage, it was all part of the message of the group in a time when they were trying to get across a strong political and social message to the government of the day who were doing their best to destroy the hopes of the youth of that era... ;-)
1) U dont know my age. So for you to assume that im "too young" displays ignorance & a "just-because-i-think-its-so-makes-it-fact" attitude
2)Terry was described by other group members as "Shy", 'uncomfortable with the spotlight & praise'
3) So your theory is becuse u have a 'strong politcal & social message' u would mumble the words like u are scared of the fans? Yeah sure! (Except Neville Staple is in the same band & Jumping around enthusiastically & singing with energy!
It's obvious you don't understand when someone is simply replying to you in a genuinely helpful manner that age has nothing to do with the fact you are quite ignorant... ;-)
Terry Hall never "mumbled" his words he was a genuinely nervous performer going on stage but he was very, very clear in his vocals (one of the reasons why you don't need scrolling lyrics on Specials videos) perhaps you need to get your ears checked out. :-)
Obviously you have never spoken to Terry, I have. ;-)
So u realized that he first excuse about him "trying to get across a political mssg so thats why he sings like he is scared" is pretty retarded. So now u have moved on to 1) he was genuinely nervous performer & 2) I have spoken to Terry.
Did u blow him backstage also u wanker? Cause u sound like a teenage girl U GROUPIE! lmao
(obviously i was commenting on his lack of energy PERFORMING LIVE!...So I dont know whats the relevance of u countering that by saying u spoke to him)
Forgot to mention... I do know your age it's 28 as it says so on your channel page, unless in your somehow arrogant & ignorant attitude towards things that you seem to display, you are also a liar as well... ;-)
Clear evidence of your disturbed mind that u just so happen to go clicking on the profiles of everyone who comments to look up their personal info? hahaha
I dont like Men u Nancy boy. Stop looking at my "Channel page" or whatever u call it. NEVER EVER before have i heard of this. Most ppl just respond comments...Not go looking up profiles. LOL

WTF are your rattling your gums about you loony...
Erm... your channel page is public you twat, it's there to be looked at, you really are thick aint ya...
Cos you've never heard of something (by the sounds of it you've never heard of anything) doesn't mean to to say the rest of the world has to be as ignorant & as thick as you...
Who cares what age you are you nutcase, it's obvious from the shite you post you're only about three anyway... now piss of and go play in the traffic..
@GtbannaNY ,I think Terry Hall did a very fine job with the Specials. What's all this crap about him being scared. Why should he be scared.Sared of what?
NEVILLE STAPLES was the one who brought energy to the band.
If your retarded theory about "singing subdued to protray a social n political mssg" was true, THEN WHY DID NEVILLE STAPLES JUMP, RUN & PERFORM HIS LYRICS HIGH ENERGY, while Terry sang with the excitement of PAINT DRYING??
Are a clearly a Biased Terry Hall Groupie!....... Is he your boyfriend?? Sorry if I offended your lover.
Leave me alone. & slink back to your cave with the walls plastered with naked Terrry Pics! haha
I usually don't bother with retards like yourself but in your case I'll make an exception...
No point in trying to explain to you about the make up of the band or the social importance of their songs, as your just too ruddy thick to understand anything...
Strange how weirdos like you always reply with "gay" jokes, often find that shows a reflection on the person writing such crap that they are actually speaking about themselves and their own life experience...
Has anyone heard of Gentleman's Dub Club? I saw them live a while back and it really reminded me of the energy and vibe the Specials had, but with a modern edge to it.
