Pierce Brosnan was originally going to be Bond much earlier, but they went with Dalton at the last minute for legal reasons. Honestly though, I think that was for the better. At the time, Brosnan looked a little too young to be James Bond. By the time Goldeneye came around, though, Brosnan was the perfect age.
